Crotona Park East, Bronx

Crotona Park is a public park in the South Bronx in New York City, covering 127.5 acres (51.6 ha). The park is bounded by streets of the same name on its northern, eastern, southern, and western borders, and is adjacent to the Crotona Park East and Morrisania neighborhoods of the Bronx. It is divided into four portions by Claremont Parkway and Crotona Avenue, which run through it. Crotona Park formerly belonged to the Bathgate family, a prominent landowning family in the South Bronx. It was created through the New Parks Act in 1888 as part of a boroughwide network of parks connected by parkways. The Crotona Play Center was added in 1936. Crotona Park was formerly 155 acres (63 ha), but the northern portion was cut off by the Cross Bronx Expressway in 1945, becoming what is now known as Walter Gladwin Park. After a period of deterioration in the late 20th century, several improvement projects were commenced starting in the 1990s. Crotona Park includes a 3.3-acre (1.3 ha) lake, as well as numerous recreational facilities such as a swimming pool. The Crotona Play Center, a national and city-designated landmark, is in the western part of the park. The park is operated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, also known as NYC Parks.

The 174th Street station was a local station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line in the Bronx, New York City. It was originally built on July 20, 1891, by the Suburban Rapid Transit Company and had three tracks and two side platforms. The next stop to the north was Tremont Avenue–177th Street, but in its last years it rose over the Cross Bronx Expressway in order to get there. The next stop to the south was Claremont Parkway. The station closed on April 29, 1973.

The Herman Ridder Junior High School (also known as Public School 98) is a middle school in the Morrisania section of the Bronx, part of the New York City Department of Education. Constructed in 1929–31, the building is a New York City Landmark Art Deco structure designed by Walter C. Martin. It is named after Herman Ridder, a prominent newspaper publisher and editor.

Bathgate Industrial Park is an industrial park located in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City. It is south of the Cross Bronx Expressway, west of Third and Fulton Avenues (near Crotona Park), north of Claremont Parkway, and east of Washington Avenue in the district of Bronx Community Board 3. A joint project of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (the PANYNJ leasing it from the NYCEDC) it opened in 1982 and is operated as a non profit organization. It was developed as an incentive to revitalize the South Bronx. The designation of the Bathgate Industrial Park in 1980 involved rezoning a former residential district characterized by vacant land and buildings.The industrial park covers seven city blocks spanning 20 acres (8.1 ha), and contains eight buildings and has approximately 454,000 square feet of space for light industrial, distribution, office and educational uses. Tenants include a generic drug manufacturer and food distributors, and academic and vocational training centers. The Mott Hall Bronx High School and the Urban Assembly School for Applied Math and Science are located on the site, within the Bathgate Educational Campus. In January 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, a "mega-facility" vaccination site for COVID-19 vaccinations was opened at Bathgate Industrial Park, operating 24/7. Previously, the location had been a COVID testing site.

Bronx Preparatory Charter School is a public middle and high school in the South Bronx. Comprising students in grades 5-12, Bronx Prep graduated its first class of seniors in June 2007. The school is located in a modern facility designed and constructed by GLUCK+ Architects specifically for Bronx Prep at 3872 Third Avenue.

The Claremont Parkway station, signed as "Claremont Parkway − Between 171st St. & 172nd St." was a local station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line in the Bronx, New York City. It originally opened on September 19, 1888 by the Suburban Rapid Transit Company as Wendover Avenue Station, and had three tracks and two side platforms. It was the northern terminus of the Third Avenue elevated until 1891. It was also two blocks east of the former Claremont Park New York Central Railroad station along the Harlem Line that was closed in 1960. The next stop to the north was 174th Street. The next stop to the south was 169th Street. The station closed on April 29, 1973. Claremont Parkway station burned down on April 30, 1973 in a huge arson fire.

The Eagle Academy for Young Men is an American all-boys' charter secondary school in the Bronx borough of New York City, New York. A part of the New York City Department of Education, it opened in 2004, established by the 100 Black Men of America organization. The school, intended to serve Latino/Hispanic and black boys, is a part of the Eagle Academy network of schools, which has campuses in other New York City boroughs and Newark, New Jersey.

Validus Preparatory Academy is a small public high school in the south Bronx, New York. Founded in 2005, Validus currently enrolls 432 students in grades 9–12.

The Bronx Municipal Building, later known as Bronx Borough Hall and eventually as Old Bronx Borough Hall (1897–1969), was the original administrative headquarters of the Bronx Borough President and other local civic leaders. It was located in the Tremont neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City.Considered an architectural accomplishment of its era, it was located atop the rocky plateau of the northwest section of present-day Tremont Park, which was originally an extension of Crotona Park, southeast of the intersection of East Tremont Avenue and Third Avenue. The elevation of the building allowed for exceptional views from distances at many angles, and it was the converging point for civic affairs. The New York City Subway's IRT Third Avenue Line, the first elevated railway line in the borough, strategically ran along the bustling neighborhoods and stopped in front of the building at the Tremont Avenue–177th Street station, where a hub of trolley lines met.

The 174th Street station is a local station on the IRT White Plains Road Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of 174th Street, Southern Boulevard & Boston Road in the Crotona Park East neighborhood of the Bronx, it is served by the 2 train at all times, and the 5 train at all times except late nights and rush hours in the peak direction.

East Tremont is a residential neighborhood located in the West Bronx, New York City. From the north and moving clockwise, it is bounded by East 180th Street, Southern Boulevard, the Cross-Bronx Expressway and Third Avenue. East Tremont Avenue is the primary thoroughfare through the neighborhood. East Tremont is part of Bronx Community Board 6, and its ZIP Codes include 10457 and 10460. The area is patrolled by the NYPD's 48th Precinct. New York City Housing Authority property in the area is patrolled by P.S.A. 8 at 2794 Randall Avenue in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx.

The Tremont Avenue–177th Street station, at times associated as Bronx Borough Hall, was an express station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line in the Bronx, New York City. It was built by the Suburban Rapid Transit Company as 177th Street Station and had three tracks and two island platforms. It opened on July 20, 1891, and was the northern terminus of the Third Avenue elevated line until 1901, when more stations opened as the line was extended north. The next stop to the north was 180th Street for local trains and Fordham Road–190th Street for express trains. The next stop to the south for all trains was 174th Street. In its last years, a reconstructed section rose over the Cross Bronx Expressway at approximately 175th Street as part of the highway's development.The station closed on April 29, 1973 and was demolished by 1977.It was notable for being the station that served Bronx Borough Hall (1897–1969).
