Licking County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. At the 2020 census, the population was 178,519. Its county seat is Newark. The county was formed on January 30, 1808, from portions of Fairfield County. It is named after the Licking River, which is thought to be named for the salt licks that were in the area. However, one account explains it as an English pronunciation of the river's indigenous Delaware name W'li/'ik'/nk, which means "where the flood waters recede".Licking County is part of the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Ohio State University at Newark is a satellite campus of Ohio State University in Newark, Ohio. During its early years, classes were held at old Newark High School. In 1966, over one million dollars pledged by 7,000 local citizens to match funds from the state legislature supported the cost of buying 155 acres (0.63 km2) of land and constructing the first building, Founders Hall, which opened in 1968.

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is a public technical college in Newark, Ohio, with extended campuses in Pataskala, Knox, and Coshocton. Founded in 1971, COTC shares a campus with Ohio State University at Newark and offers 31 associate degree programs and 12 certificate programs, including the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), Associate of Applied Business (A.A.B.), and Associate of Technical Studies (A.T.S.) degrees.

Bryn Du Mansion is a historic house in Granville, a village in Licking County, Ohio, United States. The estate is owned by the village and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The mansion consists of 52 rooms and has 12 fireplaces. It occupies a site about one-quarter mile north of Newark-Granville Road, and one mile directly east of the village of Granville.

Granville Christian Academy is a private Christian school at 1820 Newark Granville Rd, Granville, Ohio. The school uses Spring Hills Baptist Church as its campus. The Alligator Effigy Mound is an effigy mound in Granville, Ohio, United States. The mound is believed to have been built between AD 800 and 1200 by people of the Fort Ancient culture. The mound was likely a ceremonial site, as it was not used for burials. Located on privately owned land, Alligator Mound is one of two extant effigy mounds known in the present-day state of Ohio, along with Serpent Mound in Adams County, Ohio. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971. Effigy mounds were built more often by ancient indigenous peoples located in the areas of the present-day states of Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin than in the Ohio area, and many have survived there.

The Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County (C-TEC) is a public school with a focus is on preparing high school 11th & 12th graders to be career and college ready. It also has an Adult Education center located on campus that has 15 full time occupational programs and numerous short term classes available.

Granville is a village in Licking County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,946 at the 2020 census. The village is located in a rural area of rolling hills, known locally as the Welsh Hills, in central Ohio. It is 35 miles (56 km) east of Columbus, the state capital, and 7 miles (11 km) west of Newark, the county seat. Granville is home to Denison University as well as the birthplace of the song "Tweezer" by Phish. The village has a number of historic buildings, including Greek Revival structures like the Avery Downer House, St. Luke's Episcopal Church (1837) and others. The Buxton Inn (1812), the Granville Inn (1924), Bancroft House (1834) and Bryn Du Mansion are local landmarks.

Central City is a ghost town in Licking County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It was located on the intersection of the Toledo and Ohio Central Railway and the Central Ohio Railroad at the northern edge of what's now the city of Heath.
