Old Town of Flushing Burial Ground is a historic cemetery located in Flushing, Queens, New York City. It was established in 1840 and known as The Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground. It was the result of Cholera and Smallpox epidemics in 1840 and 1844, added by town elders north of Flushing Cemetery due to fears of contamination of church burial grounds. Once known as "Pauper Burial Ground", "Colored Cemetery of Flushing" and "Martins Field", it was purchased by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation on December 2, 1914, and renamed in 2009 to "The Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground".It is co-located with a children's playground called "Martin’s Field". The cemetery's recognition and status as a Queens landmark was spearheaded by local community activist Mandingo Osceola Tshaka, who became interested in the cemetery when he discovered that members from the Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church of Flushing were buried there. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

Bayside is a neighborhood located in the New York City borough of Queens. It is bounded by Whitestone to the northwest, the Long Island Sound and Little Neck Bay to the northeast, Douglaston to the east, Oakland Gardens to the south, and Fresh Meadows to the west. After the end of World War II, residential development of Bayside increased dramatically, particularly because of its station on the Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington Branch, where a commuter could ride one train straight to Manhattan. Bayside is located in Queens Community District 11 and its ZIP Codes are 11360, 11361, and 11364. It is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 111th Precinct. Politically, Bayside is represented by the New York City Council's 19th and 23rd Districts.

It is one of the most-applied-to public high schools in New York City with 9,468 applicants in 2016. Operated by the New York City Department of Education, the school serves students of grades 9–12. The school is named after Francis Lewis, who signed the United States Declaration of Independence as a representative of New York. The school has several competitive and high-performing academic programs. Students are admitted to the school, either as zoned applicants from the surrounding area, or through these programs, whose acceptance rate are below 3% in the 2019 admissions statistics, some being as low as 1%.The school has a 93% attendance rate, compared to 89% citywide. The school's graduation rate is 88% in four years, compared to 76% citywide. Holy Cross High School is a co-educational Catholic high school located in Flushing, in the New York City borough of Queens. Formerly a boys' school, the school began to admit girls from the 2018–19 academic year. Founded in 1955, Holy Cross High School was chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, the school is sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross. There is a 98% college placement rate. The School's team is the Holy Cross Knights and the school's athletic archrival is the St. Francis Preparatory School Terriers. Since they are both located on Francis Lewis Boulevard approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) apart, when they play each other the game is called the Battle of the Boulevard.

Chris Postiglione Triangle is a green space in the Fresh Meadows neighborhood of Queens, New York City, formed by the separation of the eastbound Horace Harding Expressway, 64th Avenue, and 174th Street. Its namesake, Christopher S. Postiglione (1968-1999), a construction worker at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, who grew up in Queens. On January 11, 1999, Postiglione was struck in a hit-and-run by a passing motorist as he was exiting his truck to repair a catch basin at this location. He died of his injuries 11 days later. His murderer had never been identified. On October 20, 2000, Mayor Rudy Giuliani signed legislation renaming the traffic triangle at the site of the hit after Postiglione.The acute end of the triangle contains a small monument for Postiglione donated by his labor union, DC 37 Local 376. Within the triangle is a single tree, surrounded by shrubs. On the Horace Harding side of the park is a bus stop on the eastbound Q17 and Q88 routes.
