Bayside station (LIRR)

Bayside is a neighborhood located in the New York City borough of Queens. It is bounded by Whitestone to the northwest, the Long Island Sound and Little Neck Bay to the northeast, Douglaston to the east, Oakland Gardens to the south, and Fresh Meadows to the west. CNN Money ranked Bayside as one of the most expensive housing markets nationally when analyzing comparable detached homes throughout the United States. Despite its large housing stock of free-standing homes, it nationally ranks high in population density.The first known written occurrence of the name Bayside was in a deed dated 1798, written as Bay Side. During the 19th century, Bayside was primarily farmland, where wealthy people from Manhattan would visit it as a rural resort. During the 1920s and 1930s, there were several movie studios in Astoria, and many movie stars lived in Bayside, some in posh homes. After the end of World War II, residential development of Bayside increased dramatically, particularly because of its station on the Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington Branch, where a commuter could ride one train straight to Manhattan. Bayside is located in Queens Community District 11 and its ZIP Codes are 11360, 11361, and 11364. It is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 111th Precinct. Politically, Bayside is represented by the New York City Council's 19th and 23rd Districts.

The Lawrence Cemetery is located at the corner of 216th Street and 42nd Avenue in Bayside, Queens, New York. It is one of three (two still in existence) family burial grounds owned by the Lawrence family in Queens. It was designated as a New York City Landmark in 1967, and is managed today by the Bayside Historical Society.

Bayside High School is an American public high school located in the Bayside neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. It is administered by the New York City Department of Education.

St. Mary's Children's Hospital, which was founded in 1870, was described in 2020 as "As New York City’s only post-acute pediatric care facility." In 1951 it moved from its Manhattan location to Queens. Despite its name, its has specialized programs for teens and also for seniors. During the 2020 Coronavirus period, due to parts of their facility being "regulated as an adult nursing home," many of their programs closed March 2020 through May 2021.

Auburndale is an upper-middle-class neighborhood in the northern part of the New York City borough of Queens, between Bayside and Murray Hill. The name comes from Auburndale, Massachusetts, the home of L. H. Green who developed the community starting in 1901, when the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) started offering train service to the area. Queensborough Community College (QCC) is a community college in Bayside, Queens, New York. One of seven community colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY) system, Queensborough enrolls more than 12,000 students and more than 770 Instructional Faculty.Queensborough opened in 1959 as a campus of the State University of New York and in 1965 transferred to CUNY. Its mission is to prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution or enter the work force. The college offers more than 40 associate's degree programs as well as certificate and continuing education programs. Queensborough is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Old Town of Flushing Burial Ground is a historic cemetery located in Flushing, Queens, New York City. It was established in 1840 and known as The Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground. It was the result of Cholera and Smallpox epidemics in 1840 and 1844, added by town elders north of Flushing Cemetery due to fears of contamination of church burial grounds. Once known as "Pauper Burial Ground", "Colored Cemetery of Flushing" and "Martins Field", it was purchased by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation on December 2, 1914, and renamed in 2009 to "The Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground".It is co-located with a children's playground called "Martin’s Field". The cemetery's recognition and status as a Queens landmark was spearheaded by local community activist Mandingo Osceola Tshaka, who became interested in the cemetery when he discovered that members from the Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church of Flushing were buried there. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

Douglaston Manor Windmill (c.1870s-1988) was a Dutch windmill built in Littleneck, New York to pump water for farming. Alley Pond park has a standing windmill (built 2005) that is a replica of the Douglaston Manor windmill. The windmill's tower was relocated to Alley pond after being threatened with demolition in November 1986, having been originally situated on Arleigh Road in Douglaston. A committee formed to save the windmill raised US$50,000 to relocate the structure.

Benjamin N. Cardozo High School is a public high school in the Bayside neighborhood of Queens, New York City. The school was named for Benjamin N. Cardozo, who served as justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals. It is operated by the New York City Department of Education. Cardozo High School is known for its Mentor Law and Humanities program, offering classes in such subjects like criminal justice, contract law, constitutional law, homeland security as well as a legal internship course. The school's Da Vinci Science and Research Institute program provides students an emphasis on science and mathematics. The Performing Dance program, for which students are selected through an audition process, provides instruction in many different forms of dance. The school also has a wide variety of extracurricular clubs, Navy jrotc, activities, and athletic and academic teams.
