Monark Springs, Missouri

Aroma is an unincorporated community in southern Newton County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is on the north bank of Hickory Creek 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of Monark Springs. It is on Missouri Route H 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north of Sweetwater and 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east of Neosho.

Sweetwater is an unincorporated community in Newton County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is located at the intersection of Missouri routes H and HH approximately five miles southeast of Neosho. Aroma is 2.5 miles north and Boulder City lies two miles southeast on Route H.

Neosho Wholesale Grocery Company, also known as North Transfer and Storage, is a historic warehouse building located at Neosho, Newton County, Missouri. The north section was built in 1908, and the south section added about 1922. The two- to three-story brick building features large storefronts, a corbelled brick cornice, and a painted wall sign.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Neosho Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Neosho, Newton County, Missouri. The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings in the central business district of Neosho. It developed between about 1868 and 1943, and includes representative examples of Victorian and Modern Movement architecture. Notable buildings include the Newton County Courthouse (1936), Newton County Jail (1888), Haas Building (1906), First National Bank (1922), Auditorium and City Hall (1938), Masonic Lodge (1883, 1913), and Newton County Bank (1884).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, with a boundary increase in 2007.

On August 12, 2007, a mass shooting took place at the First Congregational Church in Neosho, Missouri, United States. The shooter was identified as 52-year-old Eiken Elam Saimon, a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia. Saimon killed the church pastor and two deacons and wounded four others. After a brief hostage situation, he was arrested by police. He later agreed to a plea deal to accept three life sentences without parole and other penalties in exchange for avoiding the death penalty.

Neosho High School, also known as Neosho Intermediate School, is a historic high school building located at Neosho, Newton County, Missouri. It was built in 1916–17, and is a two-story, U-shaped, brick and stone trimmed building with Gothic Revival and Classical Revival style design elements. The building measures approximately 101 feet by 127 feet. Also on the property is the contributing two-story giraffe rock ancillary building, built as a vocational facility for the school in 1940.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Boulder City is an unincorporated community in Newton County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is on Missouri Route O, one mile west of Indian Creek and approximately nine miles southeast of Neosho. Boulder City was so named on account of boulders near the original town site.

The Second Baptist Church, also known as Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, is a historic African-American Baptist church located at Neosho, Newton County, Missouri. It was built in 1896, and is a one-story, rectangular brick building with Gothic Revival style design elements. It sits on a stone foundation, has a gable roof, and features a projecting, centered, two-story brick belfry.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Hickory Creek is a stream in Newton County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of Shoal Creek. The stream headwaters arise at 36°50′44″N 94°14′39″W at an elevation of approximately 1265 feet and the stream flows generally west past the communities of Monark Springs and Aroma before passing under U.S. Route 60. The stream continues northwest past the northeast side of Neosho to its confluence with Shoal Creek just north of Neosho at 36°53′37″N 94°22′15″W at an elevation of 981 feet.Hickory Creek was so named due to the presence of hickory timber in the area.
