The Ames–Florida–Stork House is a historic house museum in Rockford, Minnesota, United States, on the Crow River. The house was built in 1856 by New England immigrants George F. Ames and his brother-in-law Joel Florida. Ames and Florida came to Minnesota from northern Illinois by steamship. On the steamship, they met Guilford George, a master carpenter and millwright. The three men formed a partnership and established the community of Rockford clustered around a sawmill and a gristmill.The house is one of a few houses in Minnesota built with timber framing before balloon framing and dimensional lumber were well known in Minnesota. The hand-crafting extended beyond the exterior construction. The windows and doors were produced on site, as was the interior paneling of fruitwood cut on the property. Several pieces of furniture were also shaped with hand tools. This furniture is on display in the house, which is now open as a museum.Ames occupied the house until 1878, when he retired due to health problems. He sold the house and his business interests to George Florida, who lived in the house along with two of his three sisters, his mother, and his aunt. They lived in the house until his death in 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Stork bought the house in 1936. The Storks were interested in history and antiques, and they recognized the historical significance of the house. They resolved to preserve the house and to share it with school children, the community, and others interested in state and local history. The house was donated to the city of Rockford in 1986. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as the Ames–Florida House. It was listed for its local significance in architecture, commerce, industry, and settlement for its associations with the founding of Rockford around the Ames–Florida mill.

On February 9, 2021, a mass shooting and bombing occurred at a medical clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota, United States. Just before 11:00 a.m. CST, Gregory Paul Ulrich, a 67-year-old man, shot five people at Allina Health's Buffalo Crossroads facility. One victim, Lindsay Overbay, died, and three others were critically injured from gunshot wounds. All of the victims were medical clinic staff. During the attack, Ulrich discharged three improvised explosive devices, one of which failed to detonate. He surrendered to police who were dispatched to the clinic, and he was taken into custody. He admitted to authorities that he fired on people inside the clinic and set off bombs.Ulrich faced several charges before the Wright County District Court: first-degree premeditated murder, four counts of first-degree attempted premeditated murder, and discharge of an explosive or incendiary device. Police investigators and prosecutors believed Ulrich's motive for the attack was in retaliation for his dissatisfaction with treatment at the clinic, and at the doctors that had stopped prescribing opioid painkiller medication for him. Several warning signs about Ulrich's past behavior and possible motives were not sufficient to prevent the attack from being carried out. Controversially, the Buffalo police department issued Ulrich a permit for the gun he used to carry out the shooting, despite Ulrich having a restraining order against him for past threats at the clinic and his previous criminal offenses.At his trial in 2022, Ulrich admitted that he purchased the gun, assembled pipe bombs, and carried out the attack as retaliation against clinic staff. A jury convicted him on all charges and a judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

St. Michael-Albertville High School (also referred to as "STMA High School") is a public high school located in St. Michael, Minnesota, United States. Known as "STMA" for short, the high school located to a new building which opened for the 2009–2010 school year. Its Performing Arts Center (PAC) stands as the largest in the state as well and is often compared to many college-level PACs. A formal dedication of the school took place on September 20, 2009. Student achievement ranks in the top 7% in Science, 12% in Math and 15% in English among Minnesota schools. ACT scores rank STMA in the top 15% of Minnesota high schools and STMA High School is recognized as an AP Honor Roll school.The school also houses a new Activity Center, which includes an indoor running track and raised walking track, six interchangeable basketball/volleyball courts and a state of the art, 5000 square ft. fitness center/weight room. All the machines and equipment were donated by Matt Spaeth. The school district is well known for its athletic departments, especially the school's wrestling team which are 9X state champions and the school's football team, which won the state championships for the first time in 2015On February 7, 2017, the STMA community voted to approve a $36.1 million bond referendum. Bond projects included improvements in the areas of safety, technology, maintenance, and activities. 12 classrooms were added along with a new stadium and more security. Construction dates were from September 2017 to July 20, 2018.
