Youngsbury

High Cross is a village in the civil parish of Thundridge, in the East Hertfordshire district, in Hertfordshire, England. It lies upon what was the A10, however the A10 Wadesmill by-pass has now been built around High Cross and neighbouring villages. Sections of the A10 that used to run through High Cross and the neighbouring settlements such as Wadesmill were once part of the Roman road, Ermine Street. It is 4.6 km (2.9 mi) north of the town of Ware and 7 km (4 mi) north east of the county town of Hertford. The population was 853 as of the 2021 census.

They are near the A10 road and the village of Much Hadham and the hamlet of Latchford. The River Rib flows behind Barwick and through Great Barwick. There is a ford crossing at Great Barwick.

At the 2011 Census the population of the hamlet was included in the civil parish of Thundridge. Running through the centre of Wadesmill is the road formerly known as the A10 (the main London to King's Lynn (via Cambridge) road) but now that the A10 by-pass has been built, Wadesmill and surrounding villages have returned to the quiet of former times. The route that was formerly the A10 is an ancient one, with portions of it following the line of the Roman road, Ermine Street. Ermine Street also figures as the former main street in Wadesmill's adjacent village Thundridge.

It is near to the South bank of the River Rib which flows in the valley below towards Wadesmill. The name "Cold Christmas" may have come from a number of supposed deaths around Christmas time. Cold Christmas has been noted for its unusual place name.

Standon Green End is a hamlet situated just off the A10 road between Ware and Puckeridge in Hertfordshire. At the 2011 Census the population of the hamlet is included in the civil parish of Standon. Standon Green End is most notable for being at the final landing point of Vincenzo Lunardi's historic first hot air balloon flight in 1784. There is a boulder near to the settlement, with a plaque attached, the text reading: Let posterity know and knowing be astonished that on the 15th day of September 1784 Vincent Lunardi, of Lucca in Tuscany, the first aerial traveller in Britain mounting from the artillery ground in London and traversing the regions of the air for two hours and fifteen minutes. In this spot revisited the Earth on this rude monument that wondrous enterprise, successfully achieved by the power of chemistry and the fortitude of man that improvements in science which the great author of all knowledge patronising by his providence the invention of mankind, hath graciously permitted to their benefit and his own eternal glory.

Fanhams Hall is an 18th-century Queen Anne House-style country house in Wareside, Hertfordshire in the south east of England. It is a Grade II* listed building which is now operating as a hotel. Built in the early 18th century, it was subsequently enlarged in 1901, when the original brick building was encased and extended as a three-storey Jacobean style country house, roughcast with stone dressings. On the north is a projecting hall range with a long gallery above. The east front has eight bays with a three-storey central porch. The west front has three bays and the courtyard front 15 bays, with a round arch entrance flanked by two two-storey towers with pyramidal roofs. The interior is decorated in the Arts and Crafts style with plasterwork by L A Turner and stained glass by Morris and Co. in the library.

It is 1.9 miles (3.1km) away from Standon and 5.7 miles (9.2km) away from the county town of Hertford. The population was 415 as of the 2011 census.
