Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School

The Hamilton Historic District encompasses the early historic center of Hamilton, Massachusetts. It includes properties at 540-700 and 563-641 Bay Road, extending along the road from Orchard Road in the south to Cutler Road in the north. Numerous Greek Revival buildings are located within the district including the First Congregational Church of Hamilton, built in 1843. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Hamilton is a town in the eastern central portion of Essex County in eastern Massachusetts, United States. At the 2020 census, it had a population of 7,561. Currently the town has no manufacturing industry and no industrially zoned land. Though Hamilton is a landlocked town in the North Shore region of Massachusetts, its proximity to it provides easy access to the Atlantic seashore with its reservations, beaches and boating. The town includes many historic houses, pastoral landscapes, and old stone walls that accompany winding tree-lined roads. It also has a rich equestrian heritage, which remains strong due to the influence of the many horse farms and of Myopia Hunt Club, which holds frequent equestrian events, including polo most Sunday afternoons. (Myopia also hosts a Thanksgiving Day fox hunt each year that the public may attend.) Thus, people visiting Hamilton may well share the secondary roads with horse and pony riders. Patton Park, one of the parks in downtown Hamilton, was named after General George S. Patton. The park is a center of activity for the town. Hamilton is closely tied to neighboring Wenham, sharing a school system, library, recreation department, commuter rail station and newspaper. In 2010, the community of Hamilton-Wenham was listed among the "Best Places to Live" by Boston Magazine. Hamilton includes South Hamilton, a part of Hamilton that the Postal Service has assigned the zip code 01982. "Hamilton" and "South Hamilton" differ only in zip code and are otherwise the same town.

South Hamilton is a postal address assigned to ZIP code 01982 by the Postal Service and is part of the town of Hamilton, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States (ZIP code 01936). The designation arose in the 1960s when the Postal Service built a new modern post office in downtown Hamilton with the intention of closing the original post office 2 miles north on the same road. Due to public objection, the original post office was preserved and remains open to this day. To distinguish between the two post offices in an era when the use of ZIP code was not yet mandatory, the new post office was designated the "South Hamilton" post office. The Postal Service followed through with moving most of their operations, including all delivery operations, to the new post office. Thus almost all mail delivered within the town of Hamilton carries the "South Hamilton" postal address and the 01982 ZIP code. Only mail destined for P.O. Boxes located within the old post office and a few nearby buildings still carries the "Hamilton" postal address and the 01936 zip code.

The Austin Brown House is a historic late First Period house in Hamilton, Massachusetts. The oldest part of the house is the central core, a 2+1⁄2-story structure with a central chimney, was built c. 1725. A leanto section was added to the rear in the 18th century, and an ell was added to the left in the 19th century. At some point the leanto section was raised to a full two stories. In 1907, the house underwent significant restoration and enlargement, adding the right-side wing and replacing the roof with a higher pitch one with three gable dormers. The exterior was stuccoed at this time. Despite these changes, the First Period core of the house is largely preserved.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Brown House is a historic First Period house in Hamilton, Massachusetts. Built in the 1660s or 1670s, it is one of the oldest surviving houses in Essex County. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Woodberry-Quarrels House is a historic First Period house in Hamilton, Massachusetts. The oldest part of this 2.5-story, seven-bay wood-frame house is the central doorway and the rooms to its right, which were built c. 1690 along with a central chimney that was probably removed during Federal-period alterations. Later in the First Period rooms to the left of the entry were added, and there have been a series of alterations and additions since then. The First Period core of the house survived the major Federal-era changes, and the house retains much decorative work from that period.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary (GCTS) is an evangelical seminary with its main campus in Hamilton, Massachusetts, and three other campuses in Boston, Massachusetts; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Jacksonville, Florida. According to the Association of Theological Schools, Gordon-Conwell ranks as one of the largest evangelical seminaries in North America in terms of total number of full-time students enrolled.

The Emeline Patch House is a historic late First Period house in Hamilton, Massachusetts. The 2.5-story wood-frame house was built in stages, the first being the front rooms of the house along with the central chimney. Later in the 18th century, the rear rooms were added and the roof was rebuilt. In the 19th century, a small ell was added to the right side. The house was moved back from the road around 1940.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The 1908 U.S. Open was the fourteenth U.S. Open, held August 27–29 at Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, northeast of Boston. Fred McLeod defeated 1899 champion Willie Smith in an 18-hole playoff to win his only major title.High winds on Thursday caused scores in the first two rounds to soar, with only two players managing to break 80. Willie Smith carded rounds of 77-82 for a three-stroke lead over Myopia club pro John Jones, with brother Alec Smith four back and Fred McLeod five behind.On Friday, Smith struggled to an 85 in the third round in the morning but still held the lead by one over McLeod and two over Alex. In the final round that afternoon, McLeod tied for lowest score of the tournament by carding a 77, while Smith managed a 78 to force a playoff.In the playoff on Saturday, McLeod and Smith were even through 13 holes, but McLeod took the lead at the 14th after Smith missed a par putt. McLeod dominated the rest of the way, going 1-under on the last five holes to shoot a 77 to Smith's 83. McLeod only broke 80 in one round of the tournament, while Smith and Gilbert Nicholls were the only players to shoot in the 70s twice. The winning score of 322 was the third-highest in U.S. Open history.

The 1898 U.S. Open was the fourth U.S. Open, held June 17–18 at Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, northeast of Boston. Fred Herd captured his only major title, seven strokes ahead of runner-up Alex Smith.For the first time, the U.S. Open was expanded to 72 holes, meaning the players had to complete eight loops around Myopia's 9-hole course. Herd trailed leader Willie Anderson by six shots after 36 holes on Friday, but his 75 in the third round on Saturday morning was the low round of the championship and gave him a six-shot advantage after 54 holes. Despite an 84 in the afternoon for 328, Herd prevailed over Alex Smith by seven, with Anderson finishing in third. Only Herd and Smith managed to break 80 in any round of the championship.Herd's fondness for liquor was well-known; after his win, tournament officials required him to leave a deposit to prevent him from selling the trophy for drinking money. His brother Sandy won The Open Championship in 1902.

Myopia Hunt Club is a foxhunting and private country club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, northeast of Boston. In the early years of the U.S. Open, the club hosted it four times: 1898, 1901, 1905, and 1908.

The 1905 U.S. Open was the 11th U.S. Open, held September 21–22 at Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, northeast of Boston. Willie Anderson won his third consecutive U.S. Open title, and his record fourth overall, two strokes ahead of runner-up Alex Smith.Smith was the co-leader with Stewart Gardner at 156 after the first 36 holes on Thursday. Following the third round on Friday morning, Smith led Anderson by a shot, but a third consecutive 80 in the afternoon dropped him to second place. Five strokes back after the second round, Anderson closed with 76 and 77 for 314, two strokes ahead of Smith. Scoring conditions at Myopia were very difficult; the lowest score posted was 75, by 1897 champion Joe Lloyd in the opening round. His next best was 83 in the third round. Anderson's feat of three consecutive U.S. Open titles remains unmatched, while his four wins were later equaled by three others: Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus. Anderson played in the next five editions with three top-five finishes and was eleventh in his last appearance in 1910; he died four months later at age 31.
