The statistical area "Rockanje", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 5710.Rockanje was a separate municipality until 1980, when it became part of Westvoorne.

Voorne aan Zee is a municipality on the island of Voorne-Putten in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of 189.82 km2 (73.29 sq mi) of which 67.99 km2 (26.25 sq mi) is water. It had a population of 73,873 in 2022. The municipality of Voorne aan Zee was formed on 1 January 2023, through the merger of the former municipalities of Brielle, Hellevoetsluis and Westvoorne, which itself was formed on 1 January 1980, through the merger of the former municipalities Oostvoorne and Rockanje.It consists of the population centres of Brielle, Hellevoetsluis, Oostvoorne, Oudenhoorn, Rockanje, Nieuw-Helvoet, Nieuwenhoorn, Oude en Nieuwe Struiten, Vierpolders, Zwartewaal, Tinte and Helhoek.

Westvoorne is a former municipality on the island of Voorne-Putten in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The former municipality covered an area of 97.48 km2 (37.64 sq mi) of which 44.30 km2 (17.10 sq mi) was water. It had a population of 14,900 in 2021. The municipality of Westvoorne was formed on 1 January 1980, through the merger of the former municipalities of Oostvoorne and Rockanje. It consisted of the population centres of Oostvoorne, Rockanje, Tinte and Helhoek. On 1 January 2023, the municipality of Westvoorne merged with Brielle and Hellevoetsluis into the new municipality of Voorne aan Zee.

In 2001, the town of Oostvoorne had 5,403 inhabitants, the built-up area of the town was 1.9 km2 (1 sq mi), and contained 2,274 residences. The statistical area "Oostvoorne", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 7,270.Oostvoorne was a separate municipality until 1980, when it became part of Westvoorne.Oostvoorne was since before World War II the only location in the Netherlands where automobiles were permitted on the beach. In 1992 it was proposed to close the beach to cars resulting in consultations and negotiations lasting many years. The provincial government finally decided to close it permanently on October 15, 2004. In the center of Oostvoorne are the ruins of the Burcht of Voorne, one of the few Dutch castles still visibly situated on top of a motte. It was built shortly after 1200 by the Lords of Voorne. It also served as a residence for Jacqueline, Countess of Hainaut (Jacoba van Beieren).
