Box Hill, Victoria

The City of Box Hill was a local government area about 15 kilometres (9 mi) east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 21.50 square kilometres (8.30 sq mi), and existed from 1927 until 1994.

The Box Hill Town Hall is a landmark civic building located (at 37.8191°S 145.1266°E / -37.8191; 145.1266) on Whitehorse Road, Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. Designed in the Neo-Grec style by architects JS Gawler and JCA Isbett, the town hall was built between 1934 and 1935. It was the administrative and community headquarters of the City of Box Hill prior to that city’s amalgamation with the City of Nunawading to form the new City of Whitehorse in 1994.The town hall is described as having "regional architectural, historic and social importance" by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria). Its imposing façade has been utilised by the television series Neighbours as the external setting for the court house in the fictional town of Erinsborough. The interior includes a main hall and other community and meeting spaces. There are two dates engraved on the town hall’s portico – 1927, the year Box Hill was proclaimed a city, and 1994, the year of amalgamation. The crest of the former City of Box Hill is also featured on the portico. In 2006, the town hall underwent a $6.5 million redevelopment as a hub for community-based services and programs and a home for the City of Whitehorse arts and historical collections.

Box Hill Central Shopping Centre is a regional shopping centre complex (made up of two separate centres) located in the eastern Melbourne suburb of Box Hill in Victoria, Australia. It is approximately 16 kilometres (10 mi) east of Melbourne's central business district and both shopping centres are centrally located within the Box Hill shopping precinct and Whitehorse City Council's Principal Activity Centre.

Box Hill railway station is located on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Box Hill, and it opened on 1 December 1882.The station is located beneath the Box Hill Central Shopping Centre. East of the station, towards Lilydale and Belgrave, the three tracks merge into two.

Our Lady of Sion College is a Catholic school for girls located in Box Hill, Melbourne, Australia. The college educates around 950 girls from Year 7 to Year 12. The current principal is Tina Apostolopoulos. The school is run by the RC Sisters of Sion, a religious order committed to improving Jewish-Christian relations.

Box Hill Hospital is a teaching hospital in Melbourne. It is one of the seven hospitals that are governed within the Eastern Health network which provides health care services across the Eastern metropolitan area of Victoria.Established in 1956, Box Hill Hospital is a large acute hospital in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill, which admits over 48,000 patients each year.The hospital provides a wide range of healthcare services including: emergency care, general and specialist medicine, intensive care, mental health services for children, adolescents and adults, maternity services, post-acute care programs, surgery, teaching and research. Box Hill Hospital is a university teaching hospital affiliated with Monash, La Trobe and Deakin Universities.[1] In 2016 Box Hill Hospital celebrated its 60th anniversary with a staff event.

Box Hill Institute is a provider of vocational and higher education located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne in Victoria. The Box Hill Institute has three locations in Box Hill (Elgar, Nelson & Whitehorse), two in Lilydale (John St and Jarlo Dve), and one in Melbourne CBD, where it is co-located with the Centre for Adult Education.

Box Hill Cemetery is a cemetery located in Melbourne's eastern suburb of Box Hill, Victoria in Australia. It currently occupies 12.5 ha (31 acres). It is known as the resting place of notable figures from Melbourne and its heritage-registered Columbarium and Myer Memorial. Around 50,000 decedents have been interred since the cemetery was gazetted and commenced operations in 1873. The original 10-acre site was extended in 1886 and again in 1935.

Clarence Michael James Stanislaus Dennis (7 September 1876 – 22 June 1938), better known as C. J. Dennis, was an Australian poet and journalist known for his best-selling verse novel The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke (1915). Alongside his contemporaries and occasional collaborators Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson, Dennis helped popularise Australian slang in literature, earning him the title 'the laureate of the larrikin'. When Dennis died, Australia's then Prime Minister Joseph Lyons said he was destined to be remembered as the 'Australian Robert Burns'.

Box Hill High School is a co-educational public secondary school located on the corner of Middleborough Road and Whitehorse Road in the eastern suburb of Box Hill in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. With an enrolment of 1380 students (as of 2021), it caters for students from years 7 through to 12. Year 10, 11 and 12 students undertake the VCE program. Its school zone includes the suburbs of Box Hill, Box Hill South, Burwood, Burwood East Blackburn, Blackburn North, and Blackburn South.

Hays International College is a tertiary level training institute situated in Melbourne, Australia. The college offers certificate and diploma courses in Hospitality, Commercial Cookery, Sport & Sport Coaching, English Language and Aged Care.Many of its students complete the English language course and then take up their chosen vocational course. Subsequent completion of a diploma course provides graduates with entry to degree courses offered at universities. The course chosen by a student may also give access to Australia's migration programs.

Box Hill City Oval is an Australian rules football and cricket stadium located in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. It is the home ground of the Box Hill Hawks Football Club which plays in the Victorian Football League, and the Box Hill Cricket Club which plays in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association. Box Hill City Oval was officially opened in 1937. The capacity of the venue is approximately 10,000 people. The largest official attendance at the ground was on 14 August 1983 when 6,200 people attended a VFA game between Box Hill and Oakleigh. In more recent times a crowd of 5,253 attended a VFL game between the Box Hill Hawks and Williamstown on 19 June 2005. On Melbourne Show Day 1953, the venue hosted a benefit game for the family of Ray Gibb, who had died in an accident in early September, between a combined Hawthorn–Richmond team and a Box Hill team augmented with VFL and VFA stars; the crowd at the time was estimated to be 6,000. The venue has two pavilions and terracing on the western wing, but no grandstand. It is currently the second-choice venue, behind North Port Oval, for VFL finals; it usually hosts finals only in the first week, but also hosted the preliminary finals in 2010 when the North Port Oval surface was unplayable due to rain and overuse.
