Renfro Mill

Mount Airy Historic District is a national historic district located at Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 187 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding industrial and residential sections of Mount Airy. They were primarily built between about 1880 and 1930 and include notable examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow / American Craftsman architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed W. F. Carter House and Trinity Episcopal Church. Other notable buildings include the Abram Haywood Merritt House (1902), William A. Estes House (c. 1875), Thomas Fawcett House (c. 1895), J. D. Sargent House (1919), Campbell A. Baird House (1913), T. Benton Ashby House (c. 1912), First Baptist Church (1906-1912), Mount Airy Friends (1904), Presbyterian Church (1907-1914), Merritt Building (c. 1905-1910), Banner Building (1906), Prather Block (c. 1892), Midkiff Hardware Store (c. 1910), Welch Block (c. 1890), West Drug Store (c. 1895), Belk's Building (c. 1890), (former) Workman's Federal Savings and Loan (c. 1891), (former) First National Bank (1893), Bank of Mount Airy (1923), U.S. Post Office (1932-1933), and the Sparger Brothers Tobacco Factory.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, with a boundary increase in 2012, and a boundary decrease in 2021.

Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located in Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina. It was built in 1896, and is a one-story, Gothic Revival-style masonry structure of uncoarsed granite rubble, locally sourced and donated by parishioner Thomas Woodruff, president of the North Carolina Granite Corporation at that time. The first service in the new building was held in July of 1896. Trinity was consecrated on October 13, 1900, and was dedicated to “…the Worship and Service of Almighty God, the administration of His Holy Sacraments, the Reading and Preaching of His Holy Word, and for the performance of All Holy Offices” by the Bishop of North Carolina, the Rt. Reverend Joseph Blount Cheshire. The main block of the church measures 20 feet by 50 feet. It has a small gable narthex and features lancet windows. It is the oldest church building in Mount Airy.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is located in the Mount Airy Historic District.

The Andy Griffith Museum is a museum dedicated to the life and career of American actor, television producer, and singer Andy Griffith. The museum, which houses the world's largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia, is located in Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Much of the museum's collection was acquired by Griffith's friend and the founder of Andy Griffith Museum, Emmett Forrest. The facility opened to the public on September 26, 2009.

W. F. Carter House, also known as the Carter House, is a historic home located at Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina. It was built about 1908, and is a two-story, Classical Revival style frame dwelling. It features a central two-story Ionic order portico, with a one-story Doric order porch which runs beneath the portico for the full length of the three-bay facade. The house is an enlarged and remodeled earlier dwelling. Also on the property is a contributing outbuilding.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Mount Airy is a city within Surry County, in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 United States census, the city's population was 10,676, an increase of 288 (+2.8%) from the 2010 census count of 10,388. As of 2020, the city was one of the most populous municipalities in Surry County. Mount Airy is locationed within the Piedmont Triad metropolitan region.

Edgar Harvey Hennis House is a historic home located at Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina. It was built in 1909, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, three bay by eight bay, Late Victorian / Colonial Revival style brick veneer dwelling. It has a two-story rear ell with two-tier porch, a hipped roof with multiple projecting gables, four corbelled interior chimneys, and a wraparound porch.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Mount Airy High School is located on N South Street in Mount Airy, North Carolina. The front office is at the corner of N South Street and Orchard Street. The school first opened in 1895. Mount Airy's team name is the Granite Bears, and their school colors are navy blue and white.

Mayberry Mall is a shopping mall located just outside Mount Airy, North Carolina on the east side of U.S. Highway 52. It was named after the fictitious town of Mayberry in which The Andy Griffith Show was based. There are three anchor stores, Belk, Hobby Lobby and Shoe Show. (Doing business as one of Shoe Shows brand names, Shoe Dept.) Opened in 1968, it is the only shopping center between Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Roanoke, Virginia. One of the original anchor stores was W.T. Grant's Grant City, which closed in 1975 and became Kmart. Kmart closed in 2016. Winn Dixie was also an anchor until it relocated in 1978. Belk was added in 1970, and J. C. Penney moved into the mall in 1987.On June 8, 2018, JCPenney announced that its store would be closing on July 9, 2018 which left Belk as the only anchor left.On February 8, 2019, South Carolina based developer WRS Inc. purchased Mayberry Mall from Kohan Retail Investment Group with plans to redevelop the mall. The redevelopment was completed in 2021. On January 4, 2021, Hobby Lobby opened at Mayberry Mall.

The Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention is a popular festival devoted to old-time and bluegrass music, as well as related arts such as dance, which takes place each summer at Veterans Memorial Park in Mount Airy, North Carolina, United States. It was established in 1972. It is held on the first weekend in June. The festival features numerous solo and band competitions, whose winners are awarded cash prizes.Regular performers at the festival include Benton Flippen, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Ira Bernstein.

Mount Airy Township is one of fifteen townships in Surry County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 23,750 according to the 2020 census.Geographically, Mount Airy Township occupies 43.1 square miles (112 km2) in northern Surry County, with its northern border being with the state of Virginia. Mount Airy Township is the most populated township of Surry County, accounting for nearly 35% of the total county population. There are multiple unincorporated communities located here, including Bannertown, Boones Hill, Flat Rock, Franklin, Holly Springs, Salem, Sheltontown, Slate Mountain, Toast, White Plains, and White Sulphur Springs. The township surrounds the city of Mount Airy and includes the census-designated places of Flat Rock, Toast, and White Plains. U.S. Route 52 bypasses the city to the west and hosts much of the area's retail activity, including hotels, restaurants, and the Mayberry Mall. Interstate 74 passes through the southern side of Mount Airy Township, which is in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro Combined MSA.
