Falkenstein Castle (Höllental)

The Black Forest Hirschsprung (German: Schwarzwälder Hirschsprung) is a legend from the Höllental valley in the Black Forest in Germany. Over time the name has passed from the legend to a place in the valley.

Bubenstein Castle (German: Ruine Bubenstein), also called New Falkenstein Castle (Neu-Falkenstein), is a ruined spur castle at 560 m above sea level (NN) on a rock spur on the northern side of the Höllental valley, about 500 metres west of Old Falkenstein Castle above the village of Falkensteig in the municipality of Buchenbach in the county of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in the southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg.

The Höllental (English translation: Hell's Valley) in the Black Forest is a deep valley - in places like a gorge - in the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. The valley, which is about 9 km long, is located in the southern part of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park about 18 km southeast of Freiburg im Breisgau between Hinterzarten and Buchenbach-Himmelreich. The Rotbach stream (also called Höllenbach in the upper Höllental) runs through the valley. "Hölle" is the German word for "hell". In the narrow, dark valley, travellers almost felt like moving underground. The valley was the locale of the Battle of Emmendingen in 1796, part of the French Revolutionary Wars.

Buchenbach is a municipality in the south west of the Black Forest in Germany. It is located in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg. It is made up of four communities, the main town of Buchenbach and the villages of Falkensteig, Unteribental and Wagensteig. The current municipality was formed by the merger of the former entities of Buchenbach and Falkensteig on 1 December 1971, with Wagensteig being joined to them on 1 August 1973 and Unteribental on 1 January 1975.

The Hinterwaldkopf is a mountain, 1,198.2 m above sea level (NHN), in the Southern Black Forest in Germany. It lies in the southeastern part of the catchment area of the Dreisam east of Freiburg im Breisgau between Kirchzarten and Hinterzarten. To the north it is bounded by the Höllental valley, to the south by the Zastler valley. Nearby settlements include Kirchzarten, Oberried (Breisgau), Falkensteig (part of Buchenbach) and Hinterzarten. The characteristic outline of the Hinterwaldkopf is a symbol of the Dreisam valley. Its open summit region offers views over the valley to the Kandel. A trail managed by the Black Forest Club runs over the mountain.

Wiesneck Castle (German: Burg Wiesneck) is a ruined castle in the village of Wiesneck in the municipality of Buchenbach in the Southern Black Forest in the county of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in the southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg.

The Hohwart (occasionally also Hohwarthöhe or Hohwart-Höhe) is a mountain near the village of Breitnau in the Black Forest in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is 1,123 metres high.

Stollenbach is a mountain of the Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The Toter Mann ("Dead Man") is a mountain, 1,320.7 m above sea level (NHN) high, in the Southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg. It lies southeast of Freiburg im Breisgau in the municipality of Oberried.

St. Oswald’s Chapel (German: St. Oswald-Kapelle) lies in the Höllental in the High Black Forest, at its eastern end near the Ravenna Bridge. Administratively it lies in the civil parish of Steig in the municipality of Breitnau in the county of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Ecclesiastically it belongs to the parish of Hinterzarten. The chapel is dedicated to Oswald of Northumbria, a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon king. He is depicted in several places on the main altar of the chapel..

The Zastler Hut (German: Zastler Hütte) is a managed mountain hut situated at a height of 1,256 m above NHN in the Black Forest in Germany. It is located in the Zastler Loch northwest of the Feldberg summit, the highest peak in the Black Forest and state of Baden-Württemberg.

The Roßberg is a mountain, 1,124.7 m above sea level (NHN), in the Black Forest immediately north of Breitnau in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Hinterzarten, Titisee-Neustadt and St. Märgen are also nearby. On the same ridge just over 1 km to the west is the Hohwart (1123 m) and 2 km to the east, across the Oberbach valley, is the highest mountain in Breitnau municipality: the Weißtannenhöhe (1190 m). On the northwestern side of the mountain the remains of a rampart and ditch system from the end of the 17th century may be made out. In the area of the Roßberg the fortifications (known as Schanzen) run from the Schanzenhäusle via the Ringelschanze to the zur Roßbergschanze. Between the Ringelschanze and the Roßbergschanze there are continuous, linear structures with several triangular bastions. In 1690 battles were fought at Breitnau, but by the early 18th century the fortifications had lost their military significance.Immediately next to the Roßbergschanze lies the Breitnau Friends of Nature house (Naturfreundehaus Breitnau, Roßberg 47.951884°N 8.076394°E / 47.951884; 8.076394).
