Picken's Hole

Compton Bishop is a small village and civil parish, at the western end of the Mendip Hills in the English county of Somerset. It is located close to the historic town of Axbridge. Along with the village of Cross and the hamlets of Rackley and Webbington it forms the parish of Compton Bishop and Cross.

Crook Peak to Shute Shelve Hill is a 332.2 hectare (820.9 acre) geological and biological Site of Special Scientific Interest near the western end of the Mendip Hills, Somerset. The line of hills runs for approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from west to east and includes: Crook Peak, Compton Hill, Wavering Down, Cross Plain and Shute Shelve Hill. Most of the site is owned by the National Trust, which bought 725 acres (293 ha) in 1985, and much of it has been designated as common land. It was notified as an SSSI by Natural England in 1952. The ecology of the area includes ancient woodland and calcareous grassland which supports nationally rare species including the Cheddar pink. The underlying rocks are Carboniferous Limestone containing phreatic caves at Shute Shelve Cavern and Picken's Hole from which fossils dating from the Middle Devensian have been recovered.

The Lox Yeo is a short river in North Somerset, England. It rises at Winscombe and flows south west for about 6 kilometres (4 mi) to join the River Axe near Loxton. The river flows through a gap in the Mendip Hills between Crook Peak and Bleadon Hill, through which the M5 motorway now runs. The river was once known simply as the Lox. The name appears to be of Celtic origin, and means either "winding stream" or "bright one".

Badgworth is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) south west of Axbridge. According to the 2011 census it had a population of 525.The village is home to an equestrian centre known as the Badgworth Arena.

The Cheddar Yeo is a small river in Somerset, England. Beneath the limestone of the Mendip Hills it forms the largest underground river system in Britain. After emerging into Cheddar Gorge it flows through the village of Cheddar, where it has been used in the past to power mills. From the Middle Ages until the 19th century the river had ports for seagoing vessels but is no longer navigable. Some of the water, which is of good quality, is diverted into Cheddar Reservoir to provide drinking water for Bristol.

The Anglican Church of St John The Baptist in Biddisham within the parish of Badgeworth, Somerset, England was built in the 13th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Max Bog is a 10.6 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in North Somerset, notified in 1988. The site is owned by North Somerset Council and managed by the Avon Wildlife Trust for the range of wetland plants that it supports. There is no access without a permit.

Loxton is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England. It is close to the M5 motorway in the unitary authority of North Somerset. The parish includes the village of Christon and has a population of 214.

Weare is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, on the River Axe, south of the Mendip Hills. Other settlements in the parish are the village of Lower Weare, the hamlets of Alston Sutton, Brinscombe, and Sparrow Hill, and part of the hamlet of Stone Allerton.

Banwell is a village and civil parish on the River Banwell in the North Somerset district of Somerset, England. Its population was 3,251 according to the 2021 census.

Shute Shelve Cavern is a natural cave system located in Shute Shelve Hill, Somerset, England, above Axbridge in the Mendip Hills not far from Cheddar. The phreatic cave contains fossils of speleothems over 350,000 years old.It was mined for its yellow ochre which was used as a dye in paint making, until the 1920s, which gave it its alternative name of Axbridge Ochre Mine. Access is controlled by the Axbridge Caving Group via a locked gate and completely closed during the bats' roosting season. Chamber 1 has taped areas shows scallops to the right and miners supports and a large geode up to the left. Chamber 2 is a large rift with taped off areas for conservation. Further areas are known as Box Tunnel and Elm Street. Carcass Cave dig is virtually feet away which used a monorail system, ladders and platforms.
