WSRM (93.5 FM) is a radio station in Coosa, Georgia, serving the Rome, Georgia area. It is owned by Rome Radio Partners, LLC, and airs a country music format.

WGPB FM 97.7 is a public radio station in Rome, Georgia. It is part of the Georgia Public Broadcasting radio network, a state network which in turn is a member of National Public Radio, Public Radio Exchange, and American Public Media. Unlike most stations on the GPB network, WGPB does not completely simulcast with the network. WGPB also produces its own programs. The studios are located at Georgia Highlands College's Heritage Hall campus in downtown Rome, from which locally produced programming originates. The station began broadcasting as WGPB at 5 AM on June 30, 2006.

Elm Street Elementary School was one of the first schools to be built in a planned community. It is one of eight elementary schools in the Rome City School District in Georgia, United States. The naming convention for most of the streets in the community, and thus for the school, related to various types of trees. It is a public school that serves students in Pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Elm Street Elementary School was built in 1922 and is in use today. Lisa Strack is the principal.McDonald's Corporation selected Elm Street Elementary as a site for one of its national recycling commercials because the school, after renovation, is old on the outside and new on the inside.

Marshall Forest is located in Floyd County, in Georgia, 5 miles (8.0 km) outside the Rome city limits. It is one of the few remaining old-growth forests in Northwest Georgia. Marshall Forest is referred to as the only virgin forest within city limits of any city in the USA. The forest is 311 acres (126 ha). Trees in Marshall Forest range from 600–900 feet (180–270 m) in elevation. More than 300 species of plants, and fifty-five tree species live within the forest, together with numerous animals indigenous to the area.

In addition Shorter operates the Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business and the School of Nursing at off-campus facilities in the Rome area.Fielding athletic teams known as the Shorter Hawks, the university is a member of NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference. The official school and athletic colors are blue and white.
