Torquay Girls' Grammar School is a selective grammar school for girls aged 11–18, in Torquay, Devon, UK. It became one of the first schools to achieve Humanities Specialist School status in September 2004, and is one of the first to offer the AQA Baccalaureate. On 1 February 2011, the school officially gained academy status. It is a member of the South West Academic Trust – a collaboration of seven high-performing grammar schools and Exeter University. The examination results regularly place the school in the top twenty state girls' schools nationally.

Torquay Boys' Grammar School is a selective boys grammar school in Torquay, Devon, England. As of January 2012, it had 1,113 students. The school was founded in 1904 and celebrated its centenary in 2004. It is situated in Shiphay, south of Torbay Hospital, not far from the A3022 and Torre railway station as well as being directly next to Torquay Girls Grammar School.

Torbay Hospital is South Devon's main hospital. It is managed by the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

St Michael's Chapel is a small, aisleless, medieval chapel situated on the summit of Chapel Hill, in Torquay, Devon. The structure is considered to date from around the 13th or 14th century. It has been a Grade II listed building since 1952.

Devon Studio school was a Studio school and 6th form for boys and girls, located on Newton Road in Torquay, Devon, England in the grounds of Torbay Hospital. It was a small school with roughly 300 student places and was designed for students between the ages of 14 and 19, that were more practical rather than academic. It was health- and social- care based and offered A levels in psychology and some sciences. The first Ofsted inspection of the school, which was carried out in June 2015 rated it as "requiring improvement". The school closed in August 2017.

Shiphay is a district in the north of Torquay. It has population of about 6,000 and is the location of two grammar schools, three primary schools, the District Hospital, also of Torquay’s fire station. The ward is called Shiphay-with-the-Willows and at the 2011 census had a population of 9,525. Being mostly built-up there is little to attract the tourist, though Cockington and other attractions are within easy reach. The name is said to be from Saxon origin, meaning "sheep enclosure", the original hamlet being at the boundary of the sheep rearing lands of Torre Abbey. The area itself has also been a pig farm and a quarry. Until after World War I it was a small hamlet, so small that it did not even rate a mention in the Topographical Dictionary of England, 1831. The oldest properties in the district are the thatched cottages in Water Lane, several of which had connections with smugglers. Shiphay is a more affluent area of Torbay with a higher-than-average level of professional, married, and well-educated individuals.

Torre railway station is a suburban station on the Riviera Line in Torquay, Devon, England. It is 219 miles 12 chains (219.15 miles, 352.69 km) measured from London Paddington. The station is managed by Great Western Railway but is not staffed. The station buildings are Grade II listed.

Torquay Gateway railway station is a proposed station in the Edginswell area of Torquay, Devon. The station would be located on the Riviera Line between Newton Abbot and Torre stations. Torquay Gateway will be the location of employment and housing development and the new station will support this development. The station would also serve Torbay Hospital, The Willows retail park and the Torquay Gateway development area.

Ashfield in Torquay was the childhood home of Agatha Christie. She lived there from her birth until the time of her marriage, and intermittently thereafter. She reluctantly sold it in 1940; in 1962 it was demolished and replaced with a small estate of houses. A blue plaque marks the top left corner of the two-acre property which was Ashfield. Christie loved this house, and even in old age remembered it fondly. In her autobiography, she stated: I remember, I remember the house where I was born. I go back to that always in my mind. Ashfield. How much that means. When I dream I hardly ever dream of Greenway or Winterbrook. It is always Ashfield, the old familiar setting where one’s life first functioned… How well I know every detail there: the frayed red curtain leading to the kitchen, the sunflower brass fender in the hall grate, the Turkey carpet on the stairs, the big shabby schoolroom with its dark blue and gold embossed wallpaper.: p530 

Torquay Cemetery, also known as Barton Road Cemetery is a burial ground located in the town of Torquay, Devon, England. The first interment, which took place in the Nonconformist section, was in 1852. The cemetery has been Grade II listed since 2002.

Torquay Academy is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Torquay, Devon, England. Before 1 September 2012, it was known as Torquay Community College and historically, known as Audley Park School.

Chelston is an area of Torquay, Devon, England, and one of the town's most historic and best preserved Victorian suburbs, with many of the area's typical red sandstone buildings designated within the Chelston Conservation Area. Its statistical area is part of the Cockington with Chelston ward, which includes the neighbouring areas of Cockington and Livermead. The population of the entire ward is 7,951 as of 2018.The modern day area of Chelston is located almost entirely west of the Riviera Line railway tracks, with its northern boundaries taking in the lower half of Queensway and Sherwell Valley, bordered to the west with Cockington Village, and to the south by Corbyn Head and the sea.
