Oud-Annerveen is a small village in the municipality of Aa en Hunze in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It lies in the extreme northwest of the town. It lies on the southeast side against Spijkerboor in the northeast bordering the Zuidlaarderveen. The Hunze river flows parallel to the main street, just south of the village. The village was first mentioned in 1498 as "dat vene gelegen up Anner vene", and means "the old peat (colony) belonging to Annen. Oud (old) has been added to distinguish between Nieuw-Annerveen. Oud-Annerveen developed when the communal lands where split in 1457. It was mainly inhabited by small farmers who excavated the peat and worked the land.Oud-Annerveen was home to 191 people in 1840.

Nieuw-Annerveen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌniuˈɑnərveːn]) is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 16 km east of Assen. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1874 as Annerveen (Nieuw). It uses Nieuw (new) to distinguish between Oud-Annerveen. The former school is nowadays used as a village house.

Zuidlaarderveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 17 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned around 1642 as "op Suitlarerveen", and means "peat excavation settlement of Zuidlaren". In 1262, the land was sold to the Aduard Abbey to excavate the peat and cultivate the land. In 1680, there was a dispute between the province of Groningen and Drenthe about the ownership of the area around Zuidlaarderveen. In 1713, a deal was reached about the border, and the village became part of Drenthe. The village started to develop in the 19th century. Zuidlaarderveen was home to 231 people 1840.

Annerveenschekanaal is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 18 km east of Assen. The statistical area "Annerveenschekanaal", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 420.The village was founded around 1770, when its name was Annerveensche Compagnie. The village is a linear settlement along the Grevelingskanaal. The canal has been named after Lambartus Grevijlink, co-owner of the Annerveensche Heerencompagnie, a company that exploited peat fields in the area. There is a Dutch Reformed 'farmers-church' from 1836 in Annerveenschekanaal as well as Annerzathe, a countryhouse from 1878. Annerveenschekanaal used to have a public elementary school but it closed in August 2015. The village is on the Grevelingskanaal, and together with the smaller village of Eexterveenschekanaal forms part of the protected historic area Rijksbeschermd gezicht Annerveenschekanaal / Eexterveenschekanaal. In recent years the old swing bridges crossing the canal have been restored to their original condition and the canal is open for recreation.

Eexterveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 17 km east of Assen.

Windeweer is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen. It existed until 1821, when it was merged with Hoogezand. Since 2018, it is part of Midden-Groningen. The villages of Windeweer and Kiel have grown together and are nowadays known as Kiel-Windeweer. Windeweer is the southern part of the village.

Eexterzandvoort is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 15 km east of Assen on the road from Eext to Eexterveen. On the north of the hamlet is the stream Hunze, and on the eastern side is the road N33. As well on the northern side (Hunzedal) of the hamlet as on the southern side (Breevenen) are areas from the foundation Drentsch Landschap situated. The foundation tries on these areas to bring back the situation as it was before the cultivation started. The statistical area "Eexterzandvoort", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 140.

Westerdiepsterdallen is a hamlet, near Groningen. For a long time, it only had 1 inhabitant, when one of the houses was empty. By only having 1 inhabitant, it made it to the 1984 Guinness Book of Records. The hamlet has grown to 5 people.
