Skippool

Illawalla was an Edwardian single-story building in the Skippool area of Thornton, Lancashire, England. Built in 1902, it was demolished in 1996, after lying derelict for six years, to make way for three exclusive homes. Its name is preserved in the name of the road on which these houses now stand (The Illawalla) and also in the name of the adjacent cricket club (Thornton Cleveleys Cricket Club Illawalla), whose grounds partly occupy the land Illawalla stood on. Illawalla in Aboriginal Australian means the house of plenty. It is believed Frederick J. Emery, one of the early owners of the property, gave it this name to reflect his spell as a government official in Australia.

The River House is an historic building in the Skippool area of Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, England. Overlooking the River Wyre, it was built in 1830, originally known as Wyre Bank, later becoming Wyre Bank Hotel and Restaurant. After two further renamings, firstly to The River House, then The River House Restaurant, in 1958, it was frequented by the likes of Rudolf Nureyev, George Harrison and prominent politicians and was run by members of the Scott family. It has also been a four-guestroom hotel.Bill and Linda Scott ran the hotel for over thirty years, before selling it in 2005.British Prime Ministers Edward Heath, Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blairstayed at the property during the Tory Party Conferences that were held in Blackpool. John Prescott has also stayed at The River House.Today it is a private residence, with an addition on the northern side of the property.

Ashley Hall (also known as Ashley House) is a three-storey mansion in the Skippool area of Thornton, Lancashire, England. Set in around 12 acres (4.9 ha) and built in the Roaring Twenties, it was, for many years, the home for several celebrities who were appearing in Blackpool's summer shows. These include Danny La Rue, Joe Longthorne and Dorothy Squires.Also in its grounds are two two-bedroom cottages (known as "The Housekeepers Cottage" and "The Gardeners Cottage"), a stable block and a Dutch barn. An annexe extension was built around 1980.Built by T. B. Silcock, the property was owned by hotelier Len Rawcliffe from the 1970s until his death in 2021. It remains in the Rawcliffe family, but in 2022 it was put on the market for £3.75 million. Prior to that, it was owned by Mr and Mrs Percy Hawtin, who permitted the public to tour the grounds.Ashley Hall stood across Skippool Road from another mansion, Illawalla, which was demolished in 1996.

The Church of St John the Evangelist is a Roman Catholic church in the market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England. The current church replaced an earlier chapel which lies a few metres to the north-east. The former chapel, with its attached presbytery, has been designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage. Completed in 1813, St John's was the first Roman Catholic chapel to be built in Poulton-le-Fylde, a parish which had remained sympathetic to Catholicism after the Reformation. The box-shaped rendered brick building, with slate roofs, was replaced by a larger church in 1912.

Breck Road (formerly Breck Street; colloquially known as The Breck) is a road in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England. Originally known as Breck Street, it runs for about 0.79 miles (1.27 km) from Chapel Street, Ball Street and Vicarage Road in the south to Amounderness Way (the A585) in the north. The road is one-way northbound between its Chapel Street/Ball Street/Vicarage Road junction and Victoria Road, just beyond Poulton-le-Fylde railway station. It is part of the A588, a designation it picks up from Chapel Street. Amounderness Way eastbound inherits the A588 designation. Sources differ as to whether Breck Street was the former name of Breck Road or Station Road. An October 1926 edition of The London Gazette lists all three streets.

The Royal Oak Hotel was a public house and hotel in the market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. It stood on Breck Road at its junction with Station Road (formerly Breck Street). Built in 1842, it was, up until its demolition, the only hotel in the town. It replaced an earlier building, known as the Old Oak, which had also been a dye works.Joseph Redshaw was the pub's first tenant in July 1843. It was during the time of Albany Featherstonehaugh's landlordship, in 1860, that the pub was renamed the Royal Oak Hotel. It was home to the local branch of the Inland Revenue and an excise office.During its heyday, inquests and livestock sales were held at the pub.It was named Chaplin's Bar between 2003 and 2009, at which point it closed. The three-storey building was demolished in June 2018, after lying empty for several years. It was replaced by sixteen flats in 2022.

Hodgson Academy (formerly Hodgson School) is a coeducational secondary school located in Poulton-le-Fylde in the English county of Lancashire.Hodgson was inspected by the office for standards in education (OFSTED) as Outstanding, the best a school can be. Hodgson Academy offers GCSEs, BTECs and some AS Level courses as programmes of study for pupils. Most graduating pupils go on to attend Blackpool Sixth Form College or Blackpool and the Fylde College.

Poulton-le-Fylde railway station serves the town of Poulton-le-Fylde in Lancashire, England. It is managed by Northern Trains, but also served by Avanti West Coast and is 14+1⁄4 miles (22.9 km) northwest of Preston.

Jean Stansfield Memorial Park (also known as Vicarage Park) is an urban children's park in the English market town of Poulton-le-Fylde. It is located on Station Road, at its junction with Vicarage Road, one of the main roads leading to and from the town centre. The park is named for Jean Stansfield, who died on 27 September 1923, aged ten. She was the only child of Mr and Mrs S. F. Stansfield. Three years later, after the couple purchased a parcel of glebe land from St Chad's Church, the park was completed and was dedicated to their daughter. The park was dedicated on 17 June 1926.The park had a public bowling green, the town's first, added to it in June 1938. The park also now includes a skate park.

1 Vicarage Road is a Grade II listed building in the English market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. Built in 1839, it stands at the corner of Vicarage Road and Breck Road, directly across the latter from the Thatched House public house. Now an estate agent, the building was originally Poulton Savings Bank. It was the town's library in the 1880s.It is symmetrical, constructed of brick with stone dressings and a concrete tile roof. The front entrance is a stone doorway with a depressed-arch head and a radiating fanlight. The building is of two storeys. At the front there are two sash windows on the ground floor and three on the first, each with a stone windowsill and hood mould. There are a further two windows on each end. The right gable (looking from the front) has a stone plaque which is inscribed with "Poulton Savings Bank 1839".

The Thatched House is a public house on Ball Street in the English market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. A former coaching inn, it stands adjacent to the churchyard of St Chad's, at the corner of Chapel Street. A tavern, believed to have been called the Green Man, was on the site in 1793, and may have been built in the Middle Ages.The pub, which is owned by Mitchells & Butlers, was named Campaign for Real Ale's branch Pub of the Year in 2016.In 2019, the pub was refurbished, including the addition of a roof terrace and an improvement to the pub's Chapel Street Brew House microbrewing facility, which was started in 2014. It is housed in the building's old coaching sheds.Today's building was completed in 1907, replacing an earlier structure which was oriented facing Chapel Street. Nicholas Charnock was the first landlord of the new construction.The pub is one of 32 buildings in the town's Conservation Area.

Raikes Farmhouse is an historic building in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, England. Replacing a building dating from at least 1595, the current structure was built in 1692, with a rear extension added in the 19th century. It has been designated a Grade II listed building by Historic England. The property is located on Raikes Road, just southeast of its junction (a roundabout) with Stanah Road and Hillylaid Road. The property was renovated sometime between 2011 and 2019, a process that removed its pebbledashing. In 2014, a planning application was made to demolish three barns and erect six dwellings on the property, but the application was later withdrawn.
