Alvin P. Shapiro (December 28, 1920 – November 21, 1998) was an American physician and professor primarily at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Shapiro was the recipient of a Lasker Award and was known for his research in hypertension, behavioral sciences, and related diseases.

The Sterrett Sub-District School in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a building from 1898. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Frick Pittsburgh is a cluster of museums and historical buildings located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States and formed around the Frick family's nineteenth-century residence known as "Clayton". It focuses on the interpretation of the life and times of Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919), industrialist and art collector. The complex, located on 5.5 acres (22,000 m2) of lawn and gardens in the city's Point Breeze neighborhood, includes Clayton, the restored Frick mansion; The Frick Art Museum; The Car and Carriage Museum; the Greenhouse; the Frick children's playhouse; and The Café. The site welcomes over 100,000 visitors a year. Admission is free. Helen Clay Frick (1888—1984) was the driving force to preserve the Frick estate and allow it to open to the public after her death.

Killer Heals (Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe) was a blockbuster exhibition that ran at the Brooklyn Museum from September 10, 2014 – March 1, 2015.The exhibition displayed high-heeled footwear, for men and women, as art objects. The New York Times called the exhibition, "mesmerizing, disturbing but undeniably consummate." The Museum extended the extremely popular show an additional 2 weeks beyond the scheduled closing date.The curator was Lisa Small, who also edited a well-received illustrated book on the topic, "Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe. Photographer Steven Klein collaborated on the exhibit.Killer Heels was also presented later at: Albuquerque Museum of Art and History in 2015, Frick Art & Historical Center in Pittsburgh in 2016, Currier Museum of Art in New Hampshire.

The Linden Avenue School in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a building from 1903. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.The building now houses a preK-5 elementary school with a Mandarin Chinese emphasis, a city magnet school.

The Fern Hollow Bridge was a bridge in the East End of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that carried Forbes Avenue over a large ravine in Frick Park. The bridge opened in 1973 and collapsed on January 28, 2022. The bridge was west of the intersection of Forbes Avenue and South Braddock Avenue, connecting the Squirrel Hill neighborhood with the neighborhoods of Point Breeze and Regent Square.

Pennsylvania's 14th congressional district is located in the southwestern part of the state and includes all of Fayette County, Greene County, and Washington County, as well as the western part of Westmoreland County. It is represented by Republican Guy Reschenthaler. Before 2018, the 14th district included the entire city of Pittsburgh and parts of surrounding suburbs. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania redrew the district in February 2018 after ruling the previous map unconstitutional. The 14th and 18th districts swapped names and had their boundaries adjusted for the 2018 elections and representation thereafter.

Frick Park is the largest municipal park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, covering 644 acres (1.006 sq mi). It is one of Pittsburgh's four historic large parks.

The Colfax Elementary & Middle School is a public school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Its building, built in 1911, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. As of October 1, 2017, there were a total of 890 students enrolled in the school. The school's Principal is Dr. Tamara Sanders- Woods and the Vice Principal is Joan Murphy (middle school). The school is one of oldest schools still open in the City of Pittsburgh. The school added a new building with a glass bridge connecting the two buildings, in 2007 circa. The school is under Pittsburgh Public Schools direction, and led by Superintendent Anthony Hamlet.

The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting was an antisemitic terrorist attack in the form of a mass shooting, which took place at the Tree of Life – Or L'Simcha Congregation synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The congregation, along with New Light Congregation and Congregation Dor Hadash, which also worshipped in the building, was attacked during Shabbat morning services on October 27, 2018. The perpetrator killed eleven people and wounded six, including several Holocaust survivors. It was the deadliest attack ever on the Jewish community in the United States.A lone suspect, identified as 46-year-old Robert Gregory Bowers, was shot multiple times by police and arrested at the scene. Bowers had earlier posted antisemitic comments against HIAS (formerly, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) on the online alt-tech social network Gab. Dor Hadash had participated in HIAS's National Refugee Shabbat the previous week. Referring to Central American migrant caravans and immigrants, Bowers posted a message on Gab in which he wrote that "HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I'm going in." He has been charged with 63 federal crimes, some of which are capital crimes. He has pleaded not guilty. He separately faces 36 charges in Pennsylvania state court.

Tree of Life – Or L'Simcha Congregation (Hebrew: עֵץ חַיִּים – אוֹר לְשִׂמְחָה) is a Conservative Jewish synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The congregation moved into its present synagogue building in 1953. It merged with Congregation Or L'Simcha in 2010, bringing its membership to 530 families. Originally founded as an Orthodox Jewish congregation in 1864, Tree of Life Congregation gradually moved closer to Conservative Judaism. In 1886, it affiliated with the Jewish Theological Seminary Association (JTS), at the time an Orthodox institution, but which developed the Conservative ideology in the early 1900s. Tree of Life joined with JTS offshoot United Synagogue of America about 1916, formally connecting to the nascent Conservative movement. In 2018, the synagogue was the target of a mass shooting in which eleven people were killed and seven injured. It was the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the United States.

The history of the Jews in Pittsburgh dates back to the 19th century. As of 2002, Jewish households represented 3.8% of households in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In 2012, Pittsburgh's Jewish community celebrated its 100th year of federated giving through the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. The city's Jewish federation is one of the oldest in the country, marking the deep historical roots of Jews in Pittsburgh.
