Johor Bahru (Malaysian: [ˈdʒohor ˈbahru]), colloquially referred to as JB, is the capital city of the state of Johor, Malaysia and the core city of Johor Bahru District, the second largest district in Malaysia by population. It is the second largest GDP contributor among all major cities in Malaysia, and forms a part of Iskandar Malaysia, the nation's largest special economic zone by investment value. The city has a population of 858,118 people within an area of 391.25 km2. As the financial centre and logistics hub of southern Peninsular Malaysia, Johor Bahru has been ranked the second most competitive city in the nation, behind only Kuala Lumpur. Geographically, it is located at the southern end of Peninsular Malaysia, along the north bank of the Straits of Johor, opposite the city-state Singapore. The city serves as one of the two land border connections on the Malaysian side between Singapore and Malaysia, the other being the Second Link at Iskandar Puteri. It is the busiest international border crossing in the world, its direct land link to the city-state through the causeway and the RTS Link is a key economic driver of the border city. Johor Bahru is categorised as Zone A of Iskandar Malaysia and is adjacent to Senai International Airport and the 16th busiest port in the world, Port of Tanjung Pelepas. During the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar, there was further development and modernisation within the city; with the construction of administrative buildings, schools, religious buildings, and railways connecting to Woodlands in Singapore. Along with most of Southeast Asia, Japanese forces occupied Johor Bahru from 1942 to 1945 during the Pacific War. Johor Bahru became the cradle of Malay nationalism after the war and a major political party known as the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) was founded at the Istana Besar of Johor Bahru in 1946. After the formation of Malaysia in 1963, Johor Bahru retained its status as state capital and was granted city status in 1994.

The Johor Zoo (Malay: Zoo Johor) is a 12.5 ha (31 acres)-wide zoo in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia with more than 100 animal species in the zoo displayed in 28 exhibits such as macaws, peacocks, pelicans, storks, turtles,ostriches, emus, cassowaries, pythons, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, elephants, camels, tapirs, marmosets, squirrel monkey, capuchin, macaques, hippos, crocodiles, otters, gibbons, deers, gaur, and flamingos, horses and lions tigers,. It is located 1 km from Johor Bahru City Centre and is the only zoo administered by a state government in Malaysia.The zoo was opened in 1928 by His Royal Highness Almarhum Sultan Sir Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar and named as the Kebun Binatang, which is Malay for Animal Garden, or zoo and was the first of its kind in Southeast Asia at that time. On 1 April 1962, the zoo was handed over to Johor State Government and opened to the public that same year.

Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque (Malay: Masjid Negeri Sultan Abu Bakar) is the state mosque of Johor, Malaysia. Located along Jalan Skudai, Johor Bahru, the mosque was constructed between 1892 and 1900, under the direction of Sultan Abu Bakar.

The An-Nur Kota Raya Mosque (Malay: Masjid An-Nur Kota Raya) is a mosque in Plaza Kotaraya, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. It is owned by Johor Corporation (J-Corp), the Johor state government's investment arm.

The Johor Bahru Prison (Malay: Penjara Johor Bahru), alternately Ayer Molek Prison, was a former jail in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. Known to locals as Kota Jail, it was opened in 1883 to incarcerate criminals in the State, as well as those who revolted against the British colonial government. On August 30, 2005, the prison's operations were relocated to Simpang Renggam in Central Johore, due to the very acute space shortage. Parts of the prison saw continued usage as a police lockup until 2018. Currently the prison complex is abandoned.

The Persada Johor International Convention Centre (Malay: Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa Persada Johor) is a convention center in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. It is a member of the Johor Corporation Group of Companies.

Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple (Chinese: 柔佛古廟; pinyin: Róufú Gǔmiào; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Jiû-hut Kó͘-biō) known as Old Temple (Chinese: 古廟; pinyin: Gǔmiào; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Kó͘-biō) by the locals, is a Chinese temple located in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. Located at Jalan Trus, the temple is flanked by modern skyscrapers. This temple is one of the oldest structures in the city and become the symbol of unity among five Chinese ethnic groups of Teochew, Hoklo (Hokkien), Cantonese, Hakka and Hainanese people. In 2007, a documentary series called My Roots featured the temple in the episode "Grand March with the Deities".

The Johor Strait (also known as the Tebrau Strait, Straits of Johor, Selat Johor, Selat Tebrau, and Tebrau Reach, also spelled Johore Strait) is an international strait in Southeast Asia, between Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia.

Segget River (Malay: Sungai Segget, Chinese: 纱玉河) is a river in Johor, Malaysia. The length of the river is about 4,280 meters. It starts from the current Johor Bahru Chinese Cemetery, through the downtown of Johor Bahru city, and ends at Straits of Johor.The Segget River flows through the east bank and the west bank of the river. There is a small shaped triangle island called Segget Island. There is a wet market on the island. The West Bank of Segget River was mostly settled by Teochew. The road by the river is called Jalan Trus, most of the business around that area is owned by Teochew Chinese, and Johor Bahru Old Chinese temple is also located here. The roads adjoining with Jalan Trus are Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, Jalan Ibrahim and Jalan Dhoby. The East bank of the Segget river was mostly settled by Cantonese immigrants. The Stulang Steam Sawmill owned by Lim Ah Siang located near to Jalan Meldrum, and Jalan Sawmill in the downtown of Johor Bahru is named after this sawmill. Wong Ah Fook owned big pieces of land on the east bank of the river, and Jalan Wong Ah Fook is named after him. Jalan Siu Chin, Jalan Siu Koon and Jalan Siu Nam are the roads named after Wong Ah Fook's son. Johor Bahru Sentral railway station is also located on the east bank of the river, the Jalan Stesen is named after the railway station.

The Abu Bakar Royal Mosque (Malay: Masjid Diraja Abu Bakar) is Pahang's royal mosque which is located in Pekan, Pahang, Malaysia. It was officially opened in 1976 by Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang replacing the nearby Abdullah Mosque or Old Royal Mosque. Its interesting features include the royal mausoleum.
