Central Square, East Boston

East Boston, nicknamed Eastie, is a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts with over 45,000 residents. Annexed by the city of Boston in 1836, it is bordered by the cities of Winthrop, Revere, and Chelsea to the east, north, and northwest. It is separated from the Boston neighborhood of Charlestown and downtown Boston by Boston Harbor to the west and south. The footprint of the East Boston neighborhood as it is known today was created in the 1940s by connecting five of the inner harbor islands using land fill.East Boston has long provided homes for immigrants with Irish, Russian Jews and later, Italians. John F. Kennedy's great-grandfather was one of many Irish people to immigrate to East Boston, and the Kennedy family lived there for some time. From 1920 to 1954, East Boston was the site of the East Boston Immigration Station, which served as the regional immigration hub for Boston and the surrounding area. The 1990s into the early millennium brought new Latin American immigrants, who today compose more than sixty-five percent of the neighborhood population.Logan International Airport is located in East Boston, connecting Boston to domestic and international locations.

The Trinity Neighborhood House is a historic brick townhouse at 406 Meridian Street located in the Eagle Hill section of East Boston, Massachusetts.

Old East Boston High School (also known as Joseph H. Barnes School) is an historic school building at 127 Marion Street in East Boston, Massachusetts. It now acts as Section 8 housing for elderly or disabled people. This building is currently under consideration for Boston Landmark status by the Boston Landmarks Commission. The Renaissance style school was built in 1901 to a design by John Lyman Faxon and expanded in 1933 to a design by Charles R. Greco. It is a three-story structure, faced in yellow brick and limestone, with a flat roof and a raised basement. It is roughly in the shape of an H, with a central section that has side wings projecting to both the front and rear. A circular auditorium section stands behind the central section.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Donald McKay House is a privately owned historic house at 78–80 White Street in East Boston, Massachusetts. It was the residence of Donald McKay, a builder of clipper ships.

Atlantic Works is a historic building in East Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Located at 80 Border Street at its junction with Maverick Street, it was built in 1893 as the offices for Bethlehem Atlantic Works, a subsidiary of Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, which was in business from 1853 until 1984 and produced steamship boilers and engines. It was the largest manufacturing company in East Boston for over a century.The company moved here from Chelsea and Marion Streets, a few blocks to the northeast. The building was renovated in 2010. As of 2021, it is the home of Atlantic Works Cultural Center and Atlantic Works Gallery, an artists' space.

Noddle's Island was historically one of the Boston Harbor Islands off Boston, Massachusetts. Most of the original land of Noddle's Island now makes up the southern part of the neighborhood of East Boston; it is now part of the mainland since the strait connecting Noddle's Island to Hog Island and that connecting Hog Island to the mainland city of Revere were filled in the early 20th century. The original contours of Noddle's Island were also greatly obscured by the 20th-century construction of Logan International Airport, which filled the tidal flats between Noddle's Island and Governor's, Bird, and Apple islands to its east. In some sources it is spelled "Noodle's Island".

The Theodore Lyman School is a historic former school building at 30 Gove Street in the East Boston neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It is a three-story red brick building, designed by Gridley James Fox Bryant. It was built in 1869, and rebuilt after a fire severely damaged it just two years later. The school was named for Boston's fifth mayor, Theodore Lyman (1792-1849), and was a major element of East Boston's development in the mid-19th century. The school served as a public elementary school in the 1970s until damaged by fire and close in 1980. The building was converted into elderly housing in 1984.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Eagle Hill Historic District is a residential historic district roughly bounded by Meridian, Princeton, and White Streets meeting in Prescott Square in the East Boston neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. This part of East Boston was developed roughly between 1834 and 1900, and includes a remarkable concentration of original housing stock. The neighborhood is dense, with a mix of single-family and multiple-family (generally two- or three-unit) wood frame housing. The preponderance of these buildings are Italianate, Second Empire or Renaissance Revival in style, with earlier Greek Revival and later Colonial Revival and Queen Anne styling present in smaller numbers. Some of the most prominent properties in the district are: the Donald McKay House (78-80 White St), Trinity Neighborhood House (406 Meridian St.), the Paul Curtis Mansion (402 Meridian St.), and the William Waters Jr. House (57 Trenton St.). Another noteworthy property in the district is the East Boston High School located at the top of the hill, built on a site formerly used as a reservoir.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Santarpio's Pizza is a restaurant in the neighborhood of East Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It was originally established in 1903 as a bakery. Frank Santarpio began selling pizza there three decades later. A landmark to locals and a destination for visitors, the eatery is primarily known for its Boston-style pizza, which it has served at its Chelsea Street location since 1933. One Boston Globe reporter said of the establishment that "the average New Englander's only knowledge of East Boston is the sign for Santarpio's Pizza that can be seen from the highway on the way to the airport."

Chelsea Creek, shown on federal maps as the Chelsea River, is a 2.6-mile-long (4.2 km) waterway that runs along the shore of Chelsea, Massachusetts, and separates that community from the cities of Boston and Revere, as well as feeding part of the current Belle Isle Marsh Reservation that separates Boston from Revere. It is one of 10 designated port areas in Massachusetts.The creek starts as Mill Creek at a former pond at the intersection of Revere Beach Parkway (Massachusetts Route 16) and U.S. Route 1, now a shopping center. Mill Creek meanders east for 0.5 miles, then takes a sharp turn south, becoming Chelsea Creek, and widens significantly as it runs between Chelsea and the neighborhood of East Boston. In that area, the waterway is used by oil tankers to transport fuel to adjacent oil tanks. The creek then turns southwest and runs into the Mystic River shortly before it empties into Boston Harbor.All of the jet fuel used at Logan International Airport is stored along the Chelsea Creek, with 70-80 percent of the heating fuel in New England, and road salt for approximately 350 communities across the region.In May 1775, the American colonists won the first offensive victory of the American Revolution over the British, in a naval battle known as the Battle of Chelsea Creek.

Maverick Square is a section of the neighborhood of East Boston in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It is East Boston's oldest commercial center. At the heart of the square is Maverick Station, which is part of the Blue Line of the MBTA. In 2010, a revitalization of Maverick Square began. The nearby Maverick public housing project – once a source of urban blight that gave the area the reputation as the most crime-ridden in the neighborhood – has been redeveloped by Trinity Financial and the East Boston Community Development Corporation. The razing of crime-ridden high-rises, reintroduction of the urban street grid removed in the 1940s, and construction of individual homes with privates access, combined with mixed-income home ownership, contribute to the area's revitalization.

Maverick is a rapid transit station in Boston, Massachusetts. It serves the MBTA's Blue Line and is located at Maverick Square in East Boston. It is the easternmost underground station on the Blue Line and a transfer point to various buses. A center island platform provides access to the surface in the middle of Maverick Square. In the station, a track map lined with light bulbs shows the position of the trains on the Blue Line between Bowdoin and Orient Heights. It was one of the last stations to be converted to 6-car train service as part of the MBTA's Blue Line Renovation Project.
