Nassfeld Pass (Italian: Passo di Pramollo, Slovene: Mokrine) is a 1,530-metre-high (5,020 ft) mountain pass connecting Hermagor in the Austrian state of Carinthia with Pontebba in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is located in the Carnic Alps between the Gail valley in the north and the Italian Canal Valley (Valcanale) in the south. Surrounding peaks include Mt. Gartnerkofel and Mt Trogkofel. On the Austrian side is the Nassfeld ski resort, the largest in Carinthia. During the Middle Ages, Naßfeld Pass was part of an important trade route between the Duchy of Carinthia and the Republic of Venice. It lost its significance with the extension of mountain roads via neighbouring Tarvis and Predil Pass. Several expansion projects were started from the 17th century onwards, however, the present-day highway was not built until 1915 amidst World War I, when the Austro-Hungarian Army urged for a transport route to the Italian Front. Like at nearby Plöcken Pass, Naßfeld saw heavy fighting when Italian Alpini troops tried to push northwards into Carinthia.

The Corona Formation is a geologic formation of the Carnian Alps at the border of Austria and Italy. It preserves fossils dated to the Gzhelian stage of the Late Carboniferous period.The 300 metres (980 ft) thick formation comprises deposited in a deltaic environment. The Corona Formation has provided fossils of fish, brachiopods, a bryozoan, an insect, fossil flora including trunks and ichnofossils ascribed to Limnopus. The tracks from the Corona Formation include the oldest record of tetrapod tracks from the Southern Alps. The rugose coral Amplexus coronae was named after the formation.

Moggio Udinese (Friulian: Mueç, German: Mosach or Mosnitz, Slovene: Možac or Možnicia) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Udine in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is situated in the Friuli region, in the valley of the Fella River, a right tributary of the Tagliamento. Moggio is located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) northwest of Trieste and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Udine. In the north, the mountains of the Carnic Alps stretch up to the border with Austria; beyond the Fella are the Julian Alps with the Resia Valley in the southeast. As of 31 December 2004, the municipality had a population of 1,991 and an area of 143.5 square kilometres (55.4 sq mi). It can be reached via the Autostrada A23. Moggio Udinese borders the following municipalities: Amaro, Arta Terme, Chiusaforte, Dogna, Hermagor-Pressegger See (Austria), Paularo, Pontebba, Resiutta, Tolmezzo, Venzone.

Resiutta (Friulian: Resiùte, Slovene: Na Bili) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Udine, in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) northwest of Trieste and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Udine. As of 31 December 2014 it had a population of 311 and an area of 20.0 square kilometres (7.7 sq mi).The municipality of Resiutta contains the frazione Povici. Resiutta borders the following municipalities: Chiusaforte, Moggio Udinese, Resia, Venzone.

Jôf Fuart (Slovene: Viš) is a mountain of the Julian Alps in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. It lies in the far northeast of Italy, near the border with Slovenia and is the second highest peak in the western Julian Alps after Jôf di Montasio. The mountain's name is a mistranslation of the original name Viš, (from više, meaning "higher" or višek, "the summit, the peak, the top"), into the friulan "fuart", (like the italian forte, "strong") misinterpreted for the latin word vis ("power"). Because of the steepness of its slopes on all sides, Jôf Fuart is a mountain for experienced climbers. The only marked path to the summit is on its southern side, its northern face is for climbers only. The nearest town is Tarvisio.
