East Chapel Hill High School is a public high school in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is the second high school of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district, which also contains Chapel Hill High School and Carrboro High School. The total enrollment in the 2013–2014 school year was 1,409 with 48% minority students.Although East previously ranked within the top 100 of American public high schools on U.S. News, reaching as high as #23, it has not appeared on the list since the 2009–2010 school year due to being disqualified by achievement gaps. In 2012, it ranked #88 in Newsweek's "America's Best High Schools 2012."

Eubanks is an unincorporated community in Orange County, North Carolina, United States, located north of downtown Chapel Hill and south of Blackwood Station. The Orange County landfill is part of the Eubanks area; however, most of the area is rural.

97.9 THE HILL WCHL (1360 kHz) is a commercial FM and AM radio station in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is owned by Chapel Hill Media Group and it has a format of news, talk, UNC sports and adult album alternative music. Most programming is geared with a hyper-local focus towards the greater Chapel Hill community, including local news, interviews, and information, events, and local, indie, and alternative hit music. It is a network affiliate of CBS News Radio. The studios are on E Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W250BP at 97.9 MHz in Chapel Hill. By day, WCHL transmits with 5,000 watts non-directional, but to protect other stations on 1360 AM from interference, at night it reduces power to 1,000 watts and uses a directional antenna.

Chapel Hill High School is part of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district which contains two other high schools, Carrboro High School and East Chapel Hill High School.

Blackwood is an unincorporated community in Orange County, North Carolina, United States. It is located on North Carolina Highway 86, north of Eubanks, and is next to a train line running from Hillsborough to Carrboro. The primary commercial area of Blackwood is at the intersection of Hwy 86 South and Mill House Rd. to the west and Mt. Sinai Rd. to the east. Allen & Son Barbecue, located by the train track, was an institution for many UNC students and alumni before it closed in 2018.

The Emerson Waldorf School, founded in 1984, is a Pre-K to Grade 12 Waldorf school with about 260 enrolled students. The 54-acre (0.22 km2) campus is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The school offers a curriculum based on the philosophical and pedagogical indications of Rudolf Steiner, designed to promote interdisciplinary and multi-sensory learning. The school celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2009.

Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) was launched in 2004 as a collaboration involving the State of North Carolina, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), Duke University, and North Carolina State University. RENCI is organizationally structured as a research institute within UNC-CH, and its main campus is located in Chapel Hill, NC, a few miles from the UNC-CH campus. RENCI has engagement centers at UNC-CH, Duke University (Durham), and North Carolina State University (Raleigh). RENCI's founding director was Daniel A. Reed; Stanley C. Ahalt is the current director. RENCI employs over 80 staff members.

University Place (formerly known as University Mall) is the only enclosed shopping mall in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The mall is anchored by SilverSpot Cinema.The gross leasable area of the center is 366,000 square feet. The mall is located about two miles northeast from downtown and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Today the mall has an even mix of national and local stores, with a focus on specialty retailers.

The Chapel Hill Zen Center (also called the Red Cedar Mountain Temple) is a Sōtō Zen Buddhist center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina founded in 1981. The center has been led by Josho Pat Phelan since 1991, who officially became abbess of the center in 2000.The Chapel Hill Zen Center is associated with the San Francisco Zen Center and is a member of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association.

The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill (PSCH) is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Founded in 1972 by Ida Friday (wife of William Friday) and Georgia Kyser (wife of Kay Kyser), the society works to save and restore Chapel Hill's natural and man-made, historic artifacts. PSCH is heavily involved in the preservation of local murals, rock walls, historic neighborhoods, and important local structures. In addition, the group works with the Town of Chapel Hill and other local governments to promote government zoning of historic locales and districts, and it promotes legislation that could aid conservationist efforts. To further increase the town's enthusiasm about its history, the society periodically gives tours of Chapel Hill's salient historic landmarks.

Chapel Hill Museum was a local cultural and historical museum in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The museum was founded in 1996 by leaders of the Town of Chapel Hill's Bicentennial Committee and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006. In the decade since its founding, Chapel Hill Museum averaged over 20,000 visitors a year and provided education programs to over 3,500 local students a year. The museum closed on July 11, 2010.
