The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) was founded in 1933. It is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The ABP is an independent and nonprofit organization. The ABP's mission is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

97.9 THE HILL WCHL (1360 kHz) is a commercial FM and AM radio station in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is owned by Chapel Hill Media Group and it has a format of news, talk, UNC sports and adult album alternative music. Most programming is geared with a hyper-local focus towards the greater Chapel Hill community, including local news, interviews, and information, events, and local, indie, and alternative hit music. It is a network affiliate of CBS News Radio. The studios are on E Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W250BP at 97.9 MHz in Chapel Hill. By day, WCHL transmits with 5,000 watts non-directional, but to protect other stations on 1360 AM from interference, at night it reduces power to 1,000 watts and uses a directional antenna.

Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) was launched in 2004 as a collaboration involving the State of North Carolina, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), Duke University, and North Carolina State University. RENCI is organizationally structured as a research institute within UNC-CH, and its main campus is located in Chapel Hill, NC, a few miles from the UNC-CH campus. RENCI has engagement centers at UNC-CH, Duke University (Durham), and North Carolina State University (Raleigh). RENCI's founding director was Daniel A. Reed; Stanley C. Ahalt is the current director. RENCI employs over 80 staff members.

WLLQ is a daytime-only AM radio station licensed to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on 1530 kHz. The station is part of the regional Mexican music network called La Grande.

The Patterson Plantation, also known as Holly Rock Farm, is a historic Federal style plantation house located on the edge of Durham in Orange County, North Carolina. The home was once the center of a 2,200-acre plantation dating back to the 18th-century.

The body of Faith Hedgepeth (born September 26, 1992), an undergraduate student in her third year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), was found in her apartment by a friend on the morning of September 7, 2012. She had been beaten over the head with a blunt instrument, later found to be an empty liquor bottle, and evidence of semen and male DNA was present at the crime scene. The last time she was known for certain to be alive was much earlier that morning, when she went to bed after returning from a local nightclub with her roommate.Police have recovered considerable forensic evidence in the case, but so far it has served to eliminate one likely suspect, a former boyfriend of her roommate who reportedly expressed anger and resentment toward Hedgepeth, even supposedly threatening to kill her if he could not reunite with her roommate. His DNA, however, did not match that left at the scene. A note left at the scene, suggesting the writer was jealous, is also believed to have been written by the killer; it was among a large group of documents released by police two years after the crime, following a court action brought by several local media outlets.Four years after the killing, a Virginia DNA testing company prepared and released, at police's behest, an image showing what the suspect might look like based on his genetic phenotype. A voicemail possibly accidentally recorded by Hedgepeth may also capture some of the events that led to her death. In September 2021, the Chapel Hill Police Department announced an arrest in the case. The suspect, not initially considered, had been linked to the case through DNA evidence after a drunken-driving arrest the month before.

University Place (formerly known as University Mall) is the only enclosed shopping mall in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The mall is located about two miles northeast from downtown and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Triangle Township is one of six townships in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 67,870 according to the 2000 census. Geographically, Triangle Township occupies 73.85 square miles (191.3 km2) in southern Durham County and is the largest township in the county by land area. The township is almost completely occupied by portions of the city of Durham, the county seat of Durham County. Triangle Township consists of the former Patterson Township in the southwest (originally, Patterson was an Orange County township) and Cedar Fork Township in the southeast (Cedar Fork was carved from Wake County's Cedar Fork Township).

Carolina Friends School is an independent, co-educational Quaker school located in Durham, North Carolina. It enrolls students from age 3 and pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school was founded in 1962 by members of the Durham Friends Meeting and Chapel Hill Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends as one of the first racially integrated schools in the South and the first in the state. While CFS is guided by Quaker values, it is a secular and inclusive independent school. Most students, parents, and teachers at CFS are not Quaker. They follow other religious traditions or none.

The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill (PSCH) is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Founded in 1972 by Ida Friday (wife of William Friday) and Georgia Kyser (wife of Kay Kyser), the society works to save and restore Chapel Hill's natural and man-made, historic artifacts. PSCH is heavily involved in the preservation of local murals, rock walls, historic neighborhoods, and important local structures. In addition, the group works with the Town of Chapel Hill and other local governments to promote government zoning of historic locales and districts, and it promotes legislation that could aid conservationist efforts. To further increase the town's enthusiasm about its history, the society periodically gives tours of Chapel Hill's salient historic landmarks.
