Wilmington National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Wilmington, in New Hanover County, North Carolina. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 5.1 acres (2.1 ha), and as of the end of 2005, had over 6,000 interred remains.

Market Street Mansion District is a national historic district located at Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina. The district encompasses four large impressive early-20th century dwellings set on large lots. They are the Georgian Revival style Bridgers-Emerson-Kenan Mansion (1907-1908), the Classical Revival style Holt-Wise Mansion (1908), Classical Revival style Bridgers-Brooks Mansion (1909-1911), and the Georgian Revival style Bluethenhal House (1917).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Westbrook–Ardmore Historic District is a national historic district located at Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 467 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Wilmington. The district developed as six interrelated early-20th century subdivisions between about 1914 and 1956 and includes notable examples of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church (1942), Central Church of Christ (c. 1956), Saint Mark Freewill Baptist Church (c. 1945), the Mills Store (1947), "English Cottage Style" former Pure Oil station (1936), and Art Moderne style Traveler's Service Station #3 (c. 1951).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Delgrado School, also known as Washington Catlett School, is a historic school building located at Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina. It was built 1914, and is a one-story, Classical Revival style red brick building with a low-pitched gable and hip roof. Additions were made to the original building in 1924 (auditorium and central classrooms), 1938 (east and west wings) and 1953 (kitchen). It was built as part of the Delgado Mill Village. The 1938 addition was built as a Public Works Administration project.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Brookwood Historic District is a national historic district located at Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 166 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, 1 contributing structure, and 1 contributing object in a predominantly residential section of Wilmington. The district developed as planned suburban areas between about 1920 and 1964 and includes notable examples of Colonial Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable contributing resources include Brookwood Park, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Robert F. Rankin House, and Thomas E. Moody House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

New Hanover High School is a high school located in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. New Hanover High is the oldest existing high school in Wilmington. The original building was designed by William J. Wilkins. Construction started in 1919, and was completed in 1922. New Hanover High underwent a complete renovation at the start of the 21st century. It is a part of New Hanover County Schools. New Hanover is the most diverse high school in New Hanover County. The school's ethnicity is 50% Caucasian, 43% African-American, 5% Hispanic and 2% of other ethnic classification. The school has an enrollment of 1,721 students & staff of 930 people.

The district encompasses 421 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing object in a predominantly residential section of Wilmington. The district developed as planned suburban areas between about 1908 and 1950 and includes notable examples of Queen Anne, Classical Revival, Colonial Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the New Hanover High School (1922), the Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church (1921), St. Paul's Episcopal Church (1927/1956-1958), First Church of Christ, Scientist (1928), Sinclair Service Station (c. 1936), and Yopp Funeral Home (1936).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, with a boundary increase in 1999.

Williston School is a school in Wilmington, North Carolina. It was first founded in 1866 by the abolitionist American Missionary Association after the Union army occupied the city during the civil war. It was intended for freed slaves and initially had 450 pupils divided into five departments: primary, intermediate, advanced, normal and industrial. As it developed, it became known by a variety of names including Williston Graded School, Williston Primary and Industrial School and Williston High School. The original site was on Seventh Street but in 1915, the institution moved to a new campus on Tenth Street and new buildings were constructed in 1933, 1937 and 1954. The institution was closed as a high school in 1968 as part of desegregation and this caused disturbances resulting in the Wilmington Ten. The remaining school on the site is now Williston Middle School of Math, Science & Technology.

James Walker Nursing School Quarters, also known as New Hanover County Dept. of Social Services Building, is a historic dormitory located at Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina. The original was built in 1921 and is a four-story, brick veneered, reinforced concrete building with Colonial Revival and Classical Revival style design elements. Additions were made to the original building in 1926, 1937, 1945, and 1968. The building once featured two porticoes, but they were removed after 1966. It was used as living quarters for nurses until the closure of the associated hospital in 1967 and is the last remaining building of the medical complex.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Cape Fear Museum of History and Science is a museum located at 814 Market Street in downtown Wilmington in southeastern North Carolina. Founded in 1898, it is the oldest history museum in the state.

The Azalea Open Invitational was a golf tournament in North Carolina on the PGA Tour, held at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington. Last played in November 1971 as an unofficial event; it was an official PGA Tour event in 1945 and from 1949 through 1970. The Heritage in South Carolina debuted in 1969 and soon displaced it on the schedule.It was also played under the names of the Azalea Open and the Wilmington Azalea Open; all were centerpieces of the city's Azalea Festival. Cape Fear was designed by noted course architect Donald Ross.From 1950 through 1965, the Azalea Open was a tune-up event for the first major of the year, The Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Jerry Barber, the winner of the PGA Championship in 1961, won the Wilmington event three times (1953, 1961, 1963). Arnold Palmer won in 1957 and nearly repeated, falling by a stroke in an 18-hole playoff in 1958; the difference was a penalty stroke he called on himself. Total prize money was initially $10,000, increasing to $12,500 in 1955 and $15,000 in 1958. It reduced to $12,000 in 1961 before increasing to $20,000 from 1962 to 1964. Prize money was $28,750 in 1965, $22,800 in 1966, $35,000 from 1967 to 1969 and $60,000 in 1970. The final non-tour event in 1971 had prize money of $35,000.
