It impounds the head waters of the River Tone and the surrounding area is used for walking and fishing.

It is roughly triangular in shape with an area of 5.8 hectares. It has a single bank and ditch, cut through solid rock. There may have been an entrance on the west and two on the east. The ancient settlement of Syndercombe was flooded on the creation of the reservoir. In the Domesday Book of 1086 the manor of Syndercombe is recorded as held by Turstin FitzRolf.

Clatworthy Camp is an Iron Age hill fort 3 miles (4.8 km) North West of Wiveliscombe, Somerset, England. It has been scheduled as an Ancient Monument. Due to the vulnerability to scrub and tree growth it has been added to the Heritage at Risk Register. The history of the site is unclear but appears to have been used between the Bronze and Iron Ages. It is situated on a promontory of the Brendon Hills above Clatworthy Reservoir. It is roughly triangular in shape with an area of 5.8 hectares (14 acres). It has a single bank and ditch, cut through solid rock. There may have been an entrance on the west and two on the east. The interior has postholes from timber or stone houses and some storage pits. In 2014 and 2015 Wessex Water undertook tree clearance and the removal of bracken from the site without disturbing badger setts and potential bat roosts. Information boards about the local wildlife were also installed.

Kittisford is a village and former civil parish and manor, now in the parish of Stawley in the Somerset district, in the ceremonial county of Somerset, England, situated 7 miles (11 km) west of Taunton. In 1931 the parish had a population of 92. On 1 April 1933 the parish was abolished and merged with Stawley.The parish Church of St Nicholas was built around 1500 altered in the mid 17th century and was restored in 1875. It is a Grade II* listed building dedicated to St Nicholas. In the church survives a monumental brass to Richard Bluett (d.1524) and his wife Agnes Verney.Gerald Gardiner took the title "Baron Gardiner of Kittisford" when he was made a life peer.
