Västra Trädgårdsgatan

Jakobsgatan is a street at Norrmalm in central Stockholm, Sweden. The street stretches from west-east Tegelbacken in the west to Västra Trädgårdsgatan in the east. At Jakobsgatan several entertainment places can be found such as Hamburger Börs and Centralpalatset.

Saint James's Church (Swedish: Sankt Jacobs kyrka) is a church in central Stockholm, Sweden, dedicated to apostle Saint James the Greater, patron saint of travellers. It is often mistakenly called St Jacob's. The confusion arises because Swedish, like many other languages, uses the same name for both James and Jacob. Arguably the most central church in the Swedish capital, surrounded by the popular park Kungsträdgården, the Royal Opera, the square Gustav Adolfs torg; and near Sergels torg, the Royal Palace, and governmental office Rosenbad, the parish of the church was limited to 150 souls in the late 1980s, and was thus merged into the parish of the Stockholm Cathedral in 1989. A bust of Swedish tenor Jussi Björling (1911-1960) stands outside. The church took a long time to complete. As a consequence it includes a wide range of architectural styles, such as Late Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. The building is based on the design of multiple architects over the centuries: Willem Boy (1580–93), Hans Ferster (1635–43), Göran Joshuae Adelcrantz and Carl Hårleman (1723–35), Carl Möller and Agi Lindegren (1893–94).

Hamburger Börs, or "Börsen", at Jakobsgatan in Stockholm is a stage for bar shows so called "krogshower" in Sweden. Many of Sweden's most famous singers have performed on the stage like Lill Lindfors, Monica Zetterlund, Povel Ramel, Lena Philipsson, Lill-Babs, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Björn Skifs and Jerry Williams. But also more world-famous singers like Sammy Davis Jr, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli.Since the early 2000s, Hamburger Börs has been the stage for the satire show Roligt Elakt Aktuellt.

Royal Swedish Opera (Swedish: Kungliga Operan) is an opera and ballet company based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Café Opera is a café and nightclub in Stockholm, Sweden in the Royal Swedish Opera building and part of the Opera Cellar (Operakällaren). It serves as a bistro, brasserie and tearoom during the day but becomes one of Sweden's most famous and busiest nightclubs after 10pm. It opened in 1980. On the ceiling are paintings by Vicke Andrén. The club is also a former football club named FC Café Opera, founded in 1991 and which played in the Swedish Second League until 2005 when it merged with Väsby IK to form FC Väsby United.

The Matchstick Palace (Swedish: Tändstickspalatset) is an office building on Västra Trädgårdsgatan in Stockholm, Sweden.

Operakällaren is a classic and exclusive restaurant in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm. It is owned through the Nobis corporation by Alessando Catenacci. Operakällaren opened in 1787, and during its first decades it was an ordinary restaurant. In the 1830s, it became known for its clientele, many of which were artists and politicians. In the 1870s, Operakällaren was refurbished into a more exclusive restaurant by then owner Bengt Carlsson.The restaurant had linen tablecloths and napkins on the tables, and the walls was covered with wooden panels. The ladies of Stockholm's socialite were invited and a new trend of serving coffee was introduced. The restaurant was originally called Terrassen ("The Terrace") after its open-air section.The Opera bar was opened in 1905 so the restaurant could compete with other exclusive restaurants in the area, among the regular clients were Anders Zorn and Albert Engström. In the 1950s, the restaurant was run-down and the company had been losing money for several years. Bar owner Tore Wretman who owned other restaurants, took on the challenge to bring the restaurant back to its former glory.A new modern kitchen, a wine cellar and a new open-air serving area was built. The renovation took six years and Operakällaren was officially reopened again in 1961. Architects for the project were Peter Celsing and Nils Tesch. Werner Vögeli became head chef. In 2010, Operakällaren lost its star in the Michelin Guide, but regained it in 2014, under the new head chef Stefano Catenacci.

Kungsträdgården (Swedish for "King's Garden") is a park in central Stockholm, Sweden. It is colloquially known as Kungsan. The park's central location and its outdoor cafés makes it one of the most popular hangouts and meeting places in Stockholm. It also hosts open-air concerts and events in summer, while offering an ice rink during winters. There is also a number of cafés, art galleries and restaurants; for example Galleri Doktor Glas, a name taken from the novel Doctor Glas by Hjalmar Söderberg published in 1905. The park is divided into four distinct spaces (south to north): (1) Square of Charles XII; (2) Molin's Fountain; (3); Square of Charles XIII and (4) "Fountain of Wolodarski" (which does not have an official name). The park is administered and events in it organized by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

The Battle of Brunkeberg was fought on 10 October 1471 between the Swedish regent Sten Sture the Elder and forces led by Danish king Christian I. Sture won a decisive victory.

The Stockholm region alone accounts for over a third of the country's GDP, and is among the top 10 regions in Europe by GDP per capita. Ranked as an alpha-global city, it is the largest in Scandinavia and the main centre for corporate headquarters in the Nordic region. The city is home to some of Europe's top ranking universities, such as the Stockholm School of Economics, Karolinska Institute, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. It hosts the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies and banquet at the Stockholm Concert Hall and Stockholm City Hall. One of the city's most prized museums, the Vasa Museum, is the most visited non-art museum in Scandinavia. The Stockholm metro, opened in 1950, is well known for the decor of its stations; it has been called the longest art gallery in the world. Sweden's national football arena is located north of the city centre, in Solna. Avicii Arena, the national indoor arena, is in the southern part of the city. The city was the host of the 1912 Summer Olympics. Stockholm is the seat of the Swedish government and most of its agencies, including the highest courts in the judiciary, and the official residencies of the Swedish monarch and the Prime Minister. The Siege of Stockholm (1520) was a combined naval and army siege of the Swedish capital Stockholm by the Danish king Christian II during the Dano-Swedish War (1512-1520).

The Ministry of Defence (Swedish: Försvarsdepartementet) is a Swedish government ministry responsible for the national defence policy. The Ministry of Defence has existed in its present form since 1 July 1920. It has been located at its present premises at Jakobsgatan 9 at Gustaf Adolfs torg, Stockholm, since 1966. The ministry has a staff of 131 (2020): political advisers, officials, assistants, clerical officers, military advisers in military issues, etc. The ministry is headed by the Minister of Defence, currently Peter Hultqvist (s).
