Mercerville-Hamilton Square is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located within Hamilton Township, in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2000 United States Census, the CDP's population was 26,419. As part of the 2010 census, the area was split into two CDPs, Mercerville and Hamilton Square.

The district is one of the state's ten largest and consists of 17 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools along with an alternative program.As of the 2021–22 school year, the district, comprised of 23 schools, had an enrollment of 11,816 students and 969.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

Nottingham Township was a township that existed for almost 168 years in New Jersey, from 1688 until it was dissolved in 1856. The township was created on November 6, 1688, as a part of nascent Burlington County in the Province of West Jersey, representing half of the future Province of New Jersey. It was incorporated by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature as one of the State of New Jersey's initial group of 104 townships on February 21, 1798. On February 22, 1838, the township became part of the newly formed Mercer County. On February 28, 1840, the Borough of South Trenton, New Jersey was created, and annexed in 1851 as part of Trenton. Hamilton Township was created on April 11, 1842, from portions of Nottingham, reducing its once sprawling territory to a long sliver of land running between the Delaware River and the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Portions of the township were annexed by Bordentown borough (now a city) on February 13, 1849.Nottingham Township was dissolved on April 14, 1856, with portions of its territory being split between Hamilton Township and Trenton.

Sayen Park Botanical Garden (30 acres), also known as Sayen House and Gardens, is a municipal park and botanical garden located at 155 Hughes Drive, Hamilton Square, an area within Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The garden is open year-round from dawn to dusk without charge, though park activity is at its peak in the spring. The garden began in 1912 when Frederick Sayen (1885–1981) purchased the site with his wife, Anne Mellon (1886–1977), a daughter of the Mellon family. The Sayens built a "bungalow" home in the Arts and Crafts style, though with Victorian interior design, and surrounded it with plants and flowers acquired during world travels. The principal collections include species from China, Japan, and England. The Sayen site became municipal property in 1988, when Hamilton Township purchased the site from developer David Cellars. The park was opened to the public in 1991. The township expanded and improved the park in 2003. Today the garden contains more than 1,000 azaleas, nearly 500 rhododendrons, and more than 250,000 flowering bulbs for spring display, as well as ponds, bridges, gazebos, and walking trails. Sayen House and Gardens hosts an annual Azalea Festival each Mother's Day, during which Sayen House is open to the public from 10AM to 4PM.

Steinert High School (also formally known as Hamilton High School East) is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades as one of three secondary high schools that are part of the Hamilton Township School District, located in Hamilton Township in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey; the other high schools in the district are Nottingham High School (Hamilton High School North) and Hamilton High School West. The school mascot is the Spartan.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,447 students and 104.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.9:1. There were 302 students (20.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 56 (3.9% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Nottingham High School (also formally known as Hamilton High School North) is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades located in Hamilton Township, in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as one of the three secondary schools of the Hamilton Township School District; the other high schools in the district are Hamilton High School West and Steinert High School (Hamilton High School East).As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 985 students and 86.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. There were 400 students (40.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 82 (8.3% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Hamilton Township is a township and the most populous municipality in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is the largest suburb of Trenton, the state's capital, which is located to the township's west. The township is situated within the New York metropolitan area as defined by the United States Census Bureau but directly borders the Philadelphia metropolitan area and is part of the Federal Communications Commission's Philadelphia Designated Market Area. Hamilton Township derives its name from the village of Hamilton Square, which might have been named for Alexander Hamilton.In 2006, Hamilton Township was ranked by Morgan Quitno Press as the 18th-safest city in the United States, out of 369 cities nationwide. In the company's 2005 survey, the Township was ranked 15th safest of 354 cities surveyed nationwide.

The John Abbott II House is located at 2200 Kuser Road in Hamilton Township of Mercer County, New Jersey. It was built c. 1730. The house is currently used as a museum by the Historical Society of Hamilton Township and is open to the public. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 18, 1976, for its significance in architecture, military history, and politics/government.

Hamilton station is an NJ Transit station on the Northeast Corridor Line, in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. Also at this station is the NJ Transit Hamilton Township bus garage. The station is at 600 Sloan Avenue, off exit 65B of Interstate 295. Hamilton Transit Center opened February 21, 1999 as an intermodal complex. It is next to a former American Standard factory that was redeveloped into an office building. Peak express trains make the trip to New York Penn Station in about an hour, while off-peak express trains take an hour and fifteen minutes.The Hamilton station received national media attention in 2019, when it was reported that commuters are regularly locked out of the station building on early mornings. The building, which houses a ticket office, waiting room, and Dunkin' Donuts shop, is to open at 4:30 a.m. every day with the opening of the donut shop; a Dunkin' Donuts employee is contracted to open the doors of the building at that time. The ticket office opens later each day, at 6 a.m., and the platforms and a small enclosed waiting area are always kept open.

As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 12,784.Hamilton Square was established in 1692 and was named after Alexander Hamilton in a wave of anti-British feeling at the time of the War of 1812.
