Despite its name, the station serves mainly Pantin (district of Petit-Pantin) and Romainville (district of the Bas-Pays). It only serves a thin industrial fringe in Bobigny.

Avicenne Hospital (French: Hôpital Avicenne) is Musilm community founded hospital in Bobigny, Seine-Saint-Denis, in the northern suburbs of Paris. Opened in 1935 as the Franco-Muslim Hospital (Hôpital franco-musulman de Paris), it was built specifically to cater for North-African immigrants who had flocked to the Paris area. Renamed Avicenne in 1978, in memory of the Persian physician Avicenna, it is now a university hospital catering for the local population.

The name refers to the commune of Bobigny and to Rue Pablo Picasso, named after the Spanish modern artist Pablo Picasso. In 2013, the station was used by 7,135,266 passengers, which makes it the 38th busiest of the Métro network, out of 302 stations.In 2020, the station was used by 4,752,569 passengers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the 20th busiest of the Métro network, out of 305 stations.
