Finnish Church, Stockholm

Järnpojke or Iron Boy (in English known as the "little boy who looks at the moon") is a sculpture in Gamla stan (Old Town) of Stockholm, Sweden by Liss Eriksson, which is only 15 centimetres (5.9 in) high and therefore is the smallest public monument of Stockholm. The sculpture was created in 1954 by the Swedish artist Liss Eriksson, but was inaugurated at this point only in 1967. The sculpture is located behind the Finnish Church, which is only a few meters away from the Stockholm Palace, however hard to find due to its secluded location.In winter, the little boy is also to be found wearing a winter hat and scarf. The sculpture is described in very few tourist guides and is therefore considered a "secret" tourist attraction.

'Bollhustäppan' (Swedish for 'The Ball House Patch') is a small public space in Gamla stan, which is the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Named after Bollhuset, a historical theatre, it is located south of Slottsbacken just behind the Finnish Church, while two gates connects it to Trädgårdsgatan.

Bollhuset, also called Stora Bollhuset (The Big Ball House), Bollhusteatern (Ball House Theater), and Gamla Bollhuset (Old Ball House) at various times, was the name of the first theater in Stockholm, Sweden; it was the first Swedish theater and the first real theater building in the whole of Scandinavia. It was built in 1627 for ball sports and used in this way for forty years. The name Lejonkulan, however, was, in fact, the name of a different building, which was also used by the same theater in the 17th century. Bollhuset was the scene of a long series of most important events in the history of the theater in the city and in the history of Swedish theater. Between 1667 and 1792 it was used as a theater until it was demolished in 1793; between 1737 and 1754, the first national theater was located here; in 1773–1782 the Royal Swedish Opera (and thereby also the Royal Swedish Ballet) was located here; in 1783–1792 the French theater of Stockholm was housed here; in 1787 the second national theater was re-founded in the building; and from 1788 to 1792 it was the home of the Royal Dramatic Theatre.

Trädgårdsgatan (Swedish: "Garden Street") is a small street in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden. It stretches west from Skeppar Olofs Gränd to Källargränd, just south of the Royal Palace and north of the square Stortorget. Forming a parallel to Slottsbacken and Köpmangatan, it is intercepted by Trädgårdstvärgränd. On the northern side of the street are gates leading to Bollhustäppan. It is named after the royal gardens once located along its northern side.Created during the first half of the 15th century, Trädgårdsgatan was made parallel to Köpmangatan, passing through the lots on the north side of the latter, which were at the time vegetable gardens belonging to neighbouring properties and to the Royal Palace. The present street remained nameless for a long time, its location north of the more well-known Köpmangatan reducing it to Norra Gränden ("The North Alley") or even Bakgränd ("Back Alley"). The present name was being used as, Bollhuset, a ball game building, was created in the royal garden north of the street, while it was continuously being referred to as "the alley next to the archbishops residence". As the name of the street was included in a map dated 1733, and another from 1771, the name Trädgårdsgränd ("Garden Alley") was more frequently used. During the 19th century, the location of a police station in the Tessin Palace made the name Polisgränd ("Police Alley") common.

Trädgårdstvärgränd (Swedish for 'Garden's Cross-Alley') is a small alley in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching north from Köpmangatan to Trädgårdsgatan, it forms a parallel street to Skeppar Olofs Gränd and Källargränd. It is located just south of Slottsbacken and Bollhustäppan, not far from Stortorget. The alley, together with Trädgårdsgatan, is named after the vegetable gardens located here during the 16th century and belonging to the properties along the northern side of Köpmangatan and to the Royal Palace. Just like Trägårdsgatan, Trädgårdstvärgränd remained a nameless street for many years, before a man named Hans Helsing in 1456 bought a property in an alley said to be located "on the street running from Merchant's street (Köpmangatan)" (oppå the gathunne som løper fra køpmanna gatwnne). In 1488, the alley is named Swen helsingx grendh after the magistrate Sven Helsing inhabiting it, and in 1490 it is referred to as Suen helsingx bryggehus och brun mot twergrenden ("Sven helsing's brewery and well next cross-alley"). The current names of the two streets seem to have come into use during the 18th century, both appearing on maps dated 1733 and 1780.

Finska Kyrkogränd (Swedish: "Finnish Church Alley") is a blind alley in Gamla stan, an old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Leading south from Slottsbacken, the alley separates the Finnish Church from the Tessin Palace. It was also named after the vicinity to the former. It forms a parallel street to Bollhusgränd and Källargränd. The alley, for long the property of the Crown, used to lead to Trädgårdsgatan. It was excepted from a land donation in 1648 for the construction of the Lilla Bollhuset ("Small Ball House"), a building originally intended for ball games but mostly used for theatre. This latter building was rebuilt into the Finnish Church in 1725, and as the Finnish parish later enlarged the building, the alley became a blind alley periodically completely sealed off.

Köpmangatan (Swedish: "The Merchant Street") is a street in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden. A parallel street to Trädgårdsgatan, it stretches from the central square Stortorget to Köpmantorget, intercepted by Trädgårdstvärgränd, Skeppar Olofs Gränd, Peder Fredags Gränd, Själagårdsgatan, Staffan Sasses Gränd, Baggensgatan, and Bollhusgränd.

Skeppar Olofs Gränd (Swedish: "Alley of Skipper Olof") is an alley in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching from Köpmangatan to Trädgårdsgatan, it forms a parallel street to Peder Fredags Gränd and Trädgårdstvärgränd.

Peder Fredags Gränd is a small blind alley in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching north from Köpmangatan, it is located between Skeppar Olofs Gränd and Staffan Sasses Gränd, just south of the Tessin Palace. The inconspicuous alley remained nameless until the 20th century; it is included on a map from 1700, but completely left out on another dated 1733. The present name was given to the alley in 1939, presumably inspired by the two parallel alleys, both of which are named after men who served King Gustav Vasa (1496–1560) during the ousting of Danish forces.Peder Fredag (–1525) was probably one of the burghers of Stockholm, who first appeared in historical records in 1520 when, confronted with Christian II of Denmark, he vehemently opposed the city's terms of surrender. Before the Danes marched into the city, he escaped to the north of Sweden where he began to amass people to revolt against the Danish king. He started to raid the Stockholm Archipelago with his yacht, and in 1521 he joined the party of Gustav Vasa who eventually gave him a letter of marque. During the seizure of the capital, Peder Fredag was appointed captain in charge of the camp at Lovön, and as such he repelled an attack from the besieged city during Christmas 1521 and another against the King's camp on Södermalm in autumn 1522. Following the king's glorious march into the city, Peder Fredag was richly rewarded with marks of honour and tokens of grace, but he eventually died on the battlefield in 1525 during an assault against the city of Kalmar, besieged by the mercenary troops of Berend von Melen.

The Obelisk at Slottsbacken is an obelisk monument adjacent to the Royal Palace on Slottsbacken in Old Town, Stockholm, Sweden and is considered to be the very centre point of the Swedish capital city. Unveiled in 1800, it commemorates the deeds of Stockholm's citizenry during the Russo-Swedish War. In 2017, the original obelisk was dismantled due to age- and weather-related damage and was rebuilt, using newly quarried stone, in spring 2020.

Slottsbacken (Swedish: [ˈslɔ̂tːsˌbakːɛn], "Castle Slope") is a street in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. It stretches east from the Stockholm Cathedral and the Royal Palace down to the street Skeppsbron which passes along the eastern waterfront of the old town. In the western end, the alley Källargränd leads south to the square Stortorget, while Storkyrkobrinken extends Slottsbacken west beyond the cathedral and Högvaktsterrassen, down to the square Riddarhustorget. On the southern side of Slottsbacken, three alleys connect to the interior throng of the old town: On either side of the Tessin Palace are Finska Kyrkogränd and Bollhusgränd, while Österlånggatan begins in the low-lying eastern part of the slope.

The City of Stockholm is situated on fourteen islands and on the banks to the archipelago where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea. The city centre is virtually situated on the water. The area of Stockholm is one of several places in Sweden with a joint valley terrain. In these landscapes erosion along geological joints has split the flattish upper surfaces into low-lying plateaus. In the case of Stockholm the plateau surfaces are remnants of the Sub-Cambrian peneplain.
