Shakopee High School is a four-year public high school as of fall 2018 located in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. The school district serves nearly 8,380 students in Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake, and the Jackson, Louisville, and Sand Creek Townships. The district is located in one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Twin Cities. The high school received a major expansion and was reopened after a summer of construction in the fall of 2018.

Shakopee ( SHAH-kə-pee) is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Minnesota, United States. It is located southwest of Minneapolis. Sited on the south bank bend of the Minnesota River, Shakopee and nearby suburbs comprise the southwest portion of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the sixteenth-largest metropolitan area in the United States, with 3.7 million people. The population was 43,698 at the 2020 census.The river bank's Shakopee Historic District contains burial mounds built by prehistoric cultures. In the 18th century, Chief Shakopee of the Mdewakanton Dakota established his village on the east end of this area near the water. Trading led to the city's establishment in the 19th century. Shakopee boomed as a commerce exchange site between river and rail at Murphy's Landing. Once an isolated city in the Minnesota River Valley, by the 1960s the economy of Shakopee was tied to that of the expanding metropolitan area. Significant growth as a bedroom community occurred after U.S. Highway 169 was realigned in 1996 toward the new Bloomington Ferry Bridge. The city is known for the Valleyfair amusement park and the Canterbury Park racetrack.

Canterbury Park (Nasdaq: CPHC) (formerly Canterbury Downs), is a horse racing track in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. Canterbury Park Holding Corporation ("Canterbury Park") hosts parimutuel wagering on live thoroughbred and quarter horse racing at its facilities in Shakopee and parimutuel wagering on races held at out-of-state racetracks that are simulcast to the racetrack. In addition, the Canterbury Park Card Casino operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is also regulated by the Minnesota Racing Commission. Casino games include blackjack, baccarat, Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em, and poker. Canterbury Park also derives revenue from related services and activities, such as concessions, parking, admissions, and programs, and from other entertainment events held at the racetrack. Furthermore, Canterbury Park is pursuing a strategy to enhance shareholder value by developing approximately 140 acres of underutilized land surrounding the racetrack in a project known as Canterbury Commons. The company is pursuing several mixed-use development opportunities for the underutilized land, directly and through joint ventures.Canterbury Park hosted the Claiming Crown of horseracing for 10 of its first 12 years of existence, through 2010. The inaugural Mystic Lake Derby, offering the largest purse at the track since 1991, was run on July 28, 2012. The race was won by the 3-year-old Hammers Terror in a time of 1:37.18 over the one-mile turf event.A two-week series of poker tournaments, Fall Poker Classic, is held each fall at Canterbury Park.

The Julius A. Coller House was the home of Julius A. Coller I, (1859–1940), born in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States, of German descent. He served as Scott County attorney, bank president, and state senator (1899–1914). He facilitated getting the Women's Reformatory located in Shakopee.

The Shakopee Historic District is a historic district in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. Stretching along the south bank of the Minnesota River, it encompasses pre-contact Native American habitation and burial sites, a contact-era Dakota village, early Euro-American buildings, and a ferry landing. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 for its significance in the themes of prehistoric archaeology, aboriginal historical archaeology, non-aboriginal historical archaeology, and architecture.The western end of the district has been developed into Shakopee's Memorial Park, while the eastern side is The Landing, a living history village operated by Three Rivers Park District.

The Early Shakopee Houses are a pair of houses located at 411 and 419 East 2nd Avenue, Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.The houses are built mainly of brick, which was quite common in Scott County, even for modest residential dwellings. These two houses, as with other structures in Scott County, were designed by local builders, not by well-known architects, but they show the influence of major architectural styles as interpreted by area residents and builders. The houses date back to about 1865, when the county was experiencing a phase of growth associated with the construction of railroads. The Minnesota Valley Railroad, later part of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway, built its line through Shakopee in 1865. Shakopee had been established as a river town in 1854, but the growth of railroad lines in the county accelerated Shakopee's growth. The Merchants Hotel and these two houses in Shakopee, along with the Hooper–Bowler–Hillstrom House and the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Belle Plaine and several buildings in the Jordan Historic District in Jordan, were nominated to the National Register as examples of the development in the railroad boom era in Scott County.

The Herman Schroeder House and Livery is a historic residence in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. The house and outbuilding were constructed in 1880 for Herman Schroeder (1854–1922), the longtime owner of Shakopee's most successful brickyard and an influential civic leader. Both buildings feature ornate brick detailing, including on an outhouse addition to the livery. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023 for its significance in the theme of art. It was nominated for its association with Schroeder, a German immigrant whose signature red "Shakopee" bricks were used in numerous buildings throughout the region.

O'Dowd Lake is a lake in Scott County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota.O'Dowd Lake bears the name of the three O'Dowd brothers, pioneers who settled there.

The Shakopee Bridge is a four-lane vehicular bridge crossing the Minnesota River between Chanhassen and downtown Shakopee. The bridge carries Scott County Road 101 (CR 101) traffic (formerly State Highway 101) across the bridge. This bridge opened in 1993, one city block downstream from a two-lane bridge it replaced. The old two-lane bridge remains in place as a pedestrian/bicycle bridge. It is locally known as the Holmes Street Bridge and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Holmes Street Bridge, also known the Holmes Street Pedestrian Bridge, Old Shakopee Bridge, or Bridge 4175, is a historic truss bridge over the Minnesota River in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. It is one of the state's only examples of a deck truss bridge. It was constructed in 1927 with parts manufactured by the Minneapolis Steel & Machinery Company. The bridge formerly carried US 169 and MN 101, and served as the principal river crossing for Shakopee. The Holmes Street Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 2005. It was rehabilitated in 2011 to carry a trail for pedestrians, cross-country skiers, and snowmobiles.

The Minnesota Correctional Facility – Shakopee (MCF-SHK) is a women-only state prison in Minnesota, USA.Constructed in 1986 and located in Shakopee, Scott County, it is Minnesota's only facility for housing female offenders.MCF-SHK is home to 500+ women of all five custody levels. The Facility consists of ten buildings, including six inmate living areas (including a chemical dependency treatment unit, parenting unit and education unit), a mental health unit and a segregation facility, an industries building, and administration and engineering related buildings. The prison previously had no perimeter fence or wall, only a hedge surrounding the property until 2016. This was after a bonding bill passed by the legislature of Minnesota in 2014 allowing for the erection of a twelve foot fence to surround the prison. Despite previously having no fence or wall only eight prisoners have been able to escape but all were later caught.MCF-SHK is home to a chemical dependency treatment unit, a program that promotes and teaches good parenting skills, and was formerly home to a work-release style program for women. Cosmetology, office support classes, as well as several college courses are also offered to the women.

The Battle of Shakopee occurred on the morning of Thursday, May 27, 1858, between Murphy's Landing in Shakopee, Minnesota and Eden Prairie, Minnesota. It was the last major conflict between the Dakota and Ojibwe Native American tribes.
