Sund Church

Klokkarvik is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the southeastern part of the island of Sotra, approximately 40 minutes outside the city of Bergen. It lies along the coast of Sotra, at the confluence of the Raunefjorden, Fanafjorden, and Korsfjorden. The islands of Lerøyna and Bjelkarøyna lie just east off the coast of Klokkarvik. The 0.67-square-kilometre (170-acre) village has a population (2019) of 731 and a population density of 1,091 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,830/sq mi). Sund Church, built in a fan-shaped design in 1997, is located in Klokkarvik.

Lerøyna or Lerøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 1.9-square-kilometre (470-acre) island lies at the south end of the Raunefjorden, between the mainland Bergen Peninsula and the large island of Sotra. The smaller island of Bjelkarøyna lies just northeast of Lerøyna. The island has about 30 permanent residents and many vacation cabins. The island has no road bridge connection with the mainland or other islands, but there is a regular ferry route from Klokkarvik on Sotra, to Lerøyna, to Bjelkarøyna, and then to Hjellestad in Bergen on the mainland. Øygarden and Bergen municipalities have been making plans to build a road bridge connecting Lerøyna and Bjelkarøyna with a possible connection to the mainland.

Skogsvågen or Skogsvåg is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern coast of the island of Sotra in the northern part of the municipality, just northeast of the village of Hammarsland. The village is the site of Sund senter (a shopping center), Skogsvåg kindergarten, Skogsvåg stadium, Sotra Upper Secondary School, and the Sund og Sundheimen nursing home. The village was the administrative centre of Sund municipality until 2020. The 0.49-square-kilometre (120-acre) village has a population (2019) of 555 and a population density of 1,133 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,930/sq mi).

Raunefjorden is a strait (even though it is called a fjord) in Vestland county, Norway. The wide strait flows between the mainland Bergen Peninsula and the island of Sotra. Bergen Municipality is located on the east side on the mainland and Øygarden Municipality to the west on Sotra. The strait is bounded to the north by the islands of Bjorøyna and Tyssøyna and on the south by the islands of Bjelkarøyna and Lerøyna.

Tyssøyna or Tyssøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 0.9-square-kilometre (220-acre) island lies in the northern part of the Raunefjorden. The island has a population of about 70 and it is connected to the neighboring island of Bjorøy to the north via a short bridge. Bjorøy is connected to the mainland by the Bjorøy Tunnel. The island is named for the Norse god Týr. On the western side of the island is a wide and sheltered harbour called Tyssøyvågen. A narrow inlet leads into the harbour from the south, on the eastern side of the inlet several large soapstone rocks have tumbled down from the hillside. On one of these rocks the peculiar little "carving" is found. In the local community it is named "the crown" or "Tyssøykruna". Further inland on Tyssøy is a larger soapstone locality, bearing traces of being quarried for building material, most probably of a Medieval date. It seems likely that the quarrying activities at the two sites have taken place at the same time. This indicates that the earliest possible date for the figure at the inlet of Tyssøyvågen is the Middle Ages. Also during the Middle Ages (ca. 1305), the Norwegian king Haakon V built a royal chapel on the island. Remains of the chapel are still visible at a site called "Kyrkjesteinane".

Bjelkarøyna or Bjelkarøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 1.1-square-kilometre (270-acre) island lies in the southern part of the Raunefjorden between the mainland Bergen Peninsula and the large island of Sotra. The small island of Lerøyna lies just east of Bjelkarøyna and the city of Bergen is located just to the east on the mainland. The island has a small number of permanent residents and many vacation cabins. There is no road connection off the island, but there is a regular ferry route from Klokkarvik on Sotra, to Lerøyna, to Bjelkarøyna, and then to Hjellestad in Bergen on the mainland. Øygarden and Bergen municipalities have been making plans to build a road bridge connecting Lerøyna and Bjelkarøyna with a possible connection to the mainland.

Midhordland or Midthordland is a traditional district in the Vestlandet region of Norway. It consists of the central-west portion of the old Hordaland county (now part of Vestland county), mostly including the islands and coastal fjord areas surrounding (and including) the Bergen Peninsula. It includes the city on Bergen and the surrounding municipalities of Askøy, Austevoll, Bjørnafjorden, Samnanger, and Øygarden. The region is dominated by its largest city, Bergen, which is also the second largest city in the country.There are no administrative functions for this district, it is simply a cultural and historical area. Until 2014, the Church of Norway had a deanery called Midhordland prosti, but that has since been dissolved and its churches transferred to other neighboring deaneries.

Hjellestad is a neighborhood of Bergen, Norway, situated in the borough of Ytrebygda. It is located on Mildehalvøyen, about 20 kilometers (12 mi) from the city center. From Hjellestad there is a ferry to Bjelkarøy, Lerøy and Klokkarvik. Bergen Airport, Hjellestad was situated there from 1948 to 1951.

Hammarsland (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈhɑ̂mːɑʂlɑn]) is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the island of Sotra, just east of the village of Skogsvåg. The 0.57-square-kilometre (140-acre) village has a population (2019) of 929 and a population density of 1,630 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,200/sq mi).

Espegrend (also known as Espeland) is a marine biological field station located in Bergen, Norway. The station is located close to the airport Flesland, 20 kilometers south of Bergen.

Bjorøyna or Bjorøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 4.1-square-kilometre (1.6 sq mi) island is located south of the island of Litlesotra, west of the Bergen Peninsula, north of the island of Tyssøyna, and east of the island of Sotra. Bjorøy is connected to the mainland city of Bergen by a subsea road tunnel called the Bjorøy Tunnel. It is also connected to the small island of Tyssøy in neighboring Sund municipality by a bridge. Bjorøy has 878 inhabitants (September 2012), and several hundred vacation cabins.

Kystpilgrimsleia, Norwegian for "Coastal Pilgrim Route", is the name of the pilgrim way that runs along the west coast of Norway and culminates at the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. Kystpilgrimsleia is a joint project between four counties and four diocese to create a comprehensive and sustainable tourism product that promotes cultural heritage and provides a unique experience of more all the fjords of Norway.
