Hjellestad is a neighborhood of Bergen, Norway, situated in the borough of Ytrebygda. It is located on Mildehalvøyen, about 20 kilometers (12 mi) from the city center. From Hjellestad there is a ferry to Bjelkarøy, Lerøy and Klokkarvik. Bergen Airport, Hjellestad was situated there from 1948 to 1951.

Bergen Airport, Hjellestad (Norwegian: Bergen sjølufthavn, Hjellestad) was a water airport serving Bergen, Norway from 1948 through 1951. Located at Hjellestad, then in the municipality of Fana, the airport was variously used by Norwegian Air Lines (DNL), Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Widerøe and West Norway Airlines for seaplane routes eastwards to Oslo, southwards to Haugesund and Stavanger, and northwards to Ålesund, Kristiansund and Trondheim. Bergen Airport, Sandviken proved too small for DNL's routes with the introduction of the Short Sandringham, most due to ship traffic in the area. The airport at Hjellestad opened on 23 August 1948. It consisted of a small cabin used as a control tower, a small terminal building. Smaller aircraft could dock at a floating wharf, while the larger Sandringhams anchored at a buoy. The airport was closed in 1951, after DNL closed its Oslo routes and traffic moved back to Sandviken.

Flesland Air Station (Norwegian: Flesland flystasjon) was a military air base situated at Flesland in Bergen, Norway. Part of the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF), it shares a 2,990-meter (9,810 ft) runway with Bergen Airport, Flesland. The air station has since 1999 had a mobilization status and is only manned with six employees. Its main structure is a subterranean hangar with space for 25 fighter jets. Construction began in 1952 and the following year the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) issued grants for a long runway. The facility cost 70 million Norwegian krone and opened on 14 September 1954. Flesland was never the permanent base of any squadrons. Its role was intended as a forward operating base for the United States Air Force (USAF) in case the Cold War turned hot. From about 1966 Flesland became a forward storage facility for nuclear warheads, which could be moved to the air station in case of war. From 1985 it became operational as a collocated operating base, with supplies and facilities for USAF aircraft. Flesland Air Station was gradually mothballed during the 1990s.

Bergen Airport (Nynorsk: Bergen lufthamn; IATA: BGO, ICAO: ENBR), alternatively Bergen Flesland Airport or simply Flesland Airport, is an international airport located at Flesland in the city and municipality of Bergen, Vestland, Norway. Opened in 1955, it is the second-busiest airport in Norway, with 6,306,623 passengers in 2018. Flesland is operated by the state-owned Avinor. Until 1999 Flesland Air Station of the Norwegian Air Force was co-located at the airport. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), Norwegian Air Shuttle and Widerøe are the largest airlines operating at the airport. The route to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen is among the busiest in Europe. A substantial traffic is generated by CHC Helikopter Service and Bristow Norway to offshore oil platforms in the North Sea. Originally Bergen was served by water aerodromes at Flatøy, Sandviken, and Herdla. Financing of Flesland was largely secured through NATO funds and the airport opened on 2 October 1955. Until the 1980s, Bergen was the Norwegian airport used for SAS' intercontinental flights to New York. New terminals were opened in 1988 and in August 2017. The Bergen Light Rail was extended to the airport and opened in April 2017.

Midhordland or Midthordland is a traditional district in the Vestlandet region of Norway. It consists of the central-west portion of the old Hordaland county (now part of Vestland county), mostly including the islands and coastal fjord areas surrounding (and including) the Bergen Peninsula. It includes the city on Bergen and the surrounding municipalities of Askøy, Austevoll, Bjørnafjorden, Samnanger, and Øygarden. The region is dominated by its largest city, Bergen, which is also the second largest city in the country.There are no administrative functions for this district, it is simply a cultural and historical area. Until 2014, the Church of Norway had a deanery called Midhordland prosti, but that has since been dissolved and its churches transferred to other neighboring deaneries.

Bjelkarøyna or Bjelkarøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 1.1-square-kilometre (270-acre) island lies in the southern part of the Raunefjorden between the mainland Bergen Peninsula and the large island of Sotra. The small island of Lerøyna lies just east of Bjelkarøyna and the city of Bergen is located just to the east on the mainland. The island has a small number of permanent residents and many vacation cabins. There is no road connection off the island, but there is a regular ferry route from Klokkarvik on Sotra, to Lerøyna, to Bjelkarøyna, and then to Hjellestad in Bergen on the mainland. Øygarden and Bergen municipalities have been making plans to build a road bridge connecting Lerøyna and Bjelkarøyna with a possible connection to the mainland.

Flesland is a village in the borough of Ytrebygda in the municipality of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It sits on the western coast of the Bergen Peninsula, about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) southwest of the city centre of Bergen. It is the site of Bergen Airport, Flesland and Flesland Air Station. The 0.43-square-kilometre (110-acre) village has a population (2019) of 352 and a population density of 819 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,120/sq mi).

Ytrebygda Church (Norwegian: Ytrebygda kirke or Ytrebygda nærkirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Blomsterdalen in the borough of Ytrebygda in the city of Bergen (just a little east of Bergen Flesland Airport). It is one of two churches for the Fana parish which is part of the Fana prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The concrete and wood church was built in a rectangular style in 2011 using designs by the architectural firm ABO Plan & Arkitektur. The church seats about 210 people.

Milde is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Milde is situated in the borough of Ytrebygda about 20 kilometres (12 mi) south of the city centre of Bergen and about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) southeast of the village area of Hjellestad on the other side of the peninsula. As a basic statistical unit Milde had a population of 516 as of 1 January 2008.Milde has been settled for a long time, there being evidence of cultivation of grain since around the year 100 AD, while the cultural landscape dates back to around the year 200 BC. Milde peninsula has been surrounded by water on all sides since 1996, when a channel was built between the bays of Vågsbøpollen and Vestrepollen. Arboretum and Botanical Garden of Bergen is located in Milde.The modern neighborhood is built upon the lands of the two farms that historically have made up Milde: Store Milde and Lille Milde. The original farm was first recorded circa 1530 and was subsequently divided into two parcels, although ownership largely remained undivided until 1816. Toward the end of the Middle Ages, the property belonged to the Dominican convent in Bergen. The farms were in royal ownership from 1624 to 1639.

Raunefjorden is a strait (even though it is called a fjord) in Vestland county, Norway. The wide strait flows between the mainland Bergen Peninsula and the island of Sotra. Bergen Municipality is located on the east side on the mainland and Øygarden Municipality to the west on Sotra. The strait is bounded to the north by the islands of Bjorøyna and Tyssøyna and on the south by the islands of Bjelkarøyna and Lerøyna.

Kystpilgrimsleia, Norwegian for "Coastal Pilgrim Route", is the name of the pilgrim way that runs along the west coast of Norway and culminates at the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. Kystpilgrimsleia is a joint project between four counties and four diocese to create a comprehensive and sustainable tourism product that promotes cultural heritage and provides a unique experience of more all the fjords of Norway.

The 1.9-square-kilometre (470-acre) island lies at the south end of the Raunefjorden, between the mainland Bergen Peninsula and the large island of Sotra. The smaller island of Bjelkarøyna lies just northeast of Lerøyna. The island has about 30 permanent residents and many vacation cabins. The island has no road bridge connection with the mainland or other islands, but there is a regular ferry route from Klokkarvik on Sotra, to Lerøyna, to Bjelkarøyna, and then to Hjellestad in Bergen on the mainland. Øygarden and Bergen municipalities have been making plans to build a road bridge connecting Lerøyna and Bjelkarøyna with a possible connection to the mainland.
