San Rafael Ranch

Lochiel is a populated place and former border crossing in southern Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States, approximately 25 miles east of Nogales. Basically a ghost town, the townsite is located in the southwestern part of the San Rafael Valley on Washington Gulch, about 1.5 miles west of the Santa Cruz River. It was first settled in the late-1870s and mostly abandoned by 1986. The town served the ranches of the San Rafael Valley and the Washington Camp and Duquesne mining towns of the Patagonia Mountains, approximately five miles to the northwest up Washington Gulch.

The San Rafael Valley is a high intermontane grass valley in eastern Santa Cruz County, Arizona. The valley is bounded to the west by the Patagonia Mountains, to the north and northeast by the Canelo Hills and to the east by the Huachuca Mountains in Cochise County. The valley forms the headwaters of the Santa Cruz River which flows south into Sonora, Mexico just east of the historic Lochiel townsite. The San Rafael de la Zanja Land Grant lies in the valley center just north of Lochiel. The Nature Conservancy purchased the former land grant ranch in 1998 and Arizona established the "San Rafael State Natural Area" in the valley in 1999 on the southern part of that property. The protected areas are not open to the public. The land grant is privately owned. The State Natural Area is south of the land grant, and borders Mexico. In 2008, the San Rafael Ranch headquarters was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the "San Rafael Ranch Historic District".

Washington Camp is a populated place in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. Little remains of the historic mining camp and what does is on private property belonging to the community's few remaining residents. The Mad Miner Inn has lodging, checkout availability and location on maps. The ruins of the ghost town of Duquesne are one mile southeast of Washington Camp. The post office in Washington Camp was first opened on May 13, 1880, and moved to nearby Duquesne on June 6, 1890.

Duquesne is a ghost town in the Patagonia Mountains in eastern Santa Cruz County, Arizona, near the international border with Sonora, Mexico. The town, which is currently under private ownership and closed to the public although the roads are almost all public, was once the headquarters of the Duquesne Mining and Reduction Company and is the site of the Bonanza Mine. Washington Camp is approximately one mile northwest of Duquesne and was where the mine's reduction plant was located.

The Sunnyside copper project is a copper exploration project located in Arizona's Patagonia Mountains in the southwestern United States. The property is located near Patagonia, Arizona, about 53 miles (85 km) south of Tucson in the Laramide porphyry copper province, and is owned by Canadian junior mineral exploration company Regal Resources Inc.The Sunnyside system consists of deep chalcopyrite mineralization in ~60 to 59 Ma quartz-feldspar porphyry, and near-surface, slightly younger (~59–58 Ma) enargite-chalcocite-tennantite mineralization in quartz-feldspar porphyry, quartz monzonite porphyry, and Mesozoic rocks. Base metal skarn mineralization has been intersected in deep drill holes on the property.

The Hale Ranch is a working cattle ranch headquartered in the ghost town of Harshaw, in the Patagonia Mountains of southeastern Arizona.

The James Finley House is a historic home located on the Hale Ranch in the ghost town of Harshaw, Arizona. Built around 1877, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and is now the most prominent building remaining in this ghost town. Along with the rest of Harshaw, this house has been within the Coronado National Forest since 1953.

Harshaw is a ghost town in Santa Cruz County in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Arizona. The town was settled in the 1870s, in what was then Arizona Territory. Founded as a mining community, Harshaw is named after the cattleman-turned-prospector David Tecumseh Harshaw, who first successfully located silver in the area. At the town's peak near the end of the 19th century, Harshaw's mines were among Arizona's highest producers of ore, with the largest mine, the Hermosa, yielding approximately $365,455 in bullion over a four-month period in 1880.Throughout its history, the town's population grew and declined in time with the price of silver, as the mines and the mill opened, closed, and changed hands over the years. By the 1960s, the mines had shut down for the final time, and the town, which was made part of the Coronado National Forest in 1953, became a ghost town.Today, all that remains of Harshaw are a few houses, some building foundations, two small cemeteries, and dilapidated mine shafts. Most of the buildings were torn down by locals or by the Forest Service in the mid to late 1970s.

Sunnyside is a populated place situated in the far west of Cochise County, Arizona, United States, located just north of the international border with Mexico. It has an estimated elevation of 5,814 feet (1,772 m) above sea level.

Harshaw Creek is a stream in the Patagonia Mountains of Santa Cruz County, Arizona, named after David Tecumseh Harshaw, who settled along its banks in the mid-1870s. It is approximately 15 miles (24 km) long and flows in a north to northwesterly direction toward the community of Patagonia, where it joins with Sonoita Creek.Most of Harshaw Creek is ephemeral and experiences its greatest stream-flow after the summer monsoon and winter snowstorms. Vegetation is typical to the region with cottonwood, willow, sycamore and other lesser plants forming a riparian corridor along its banks. Upper Harshaw Creek flows through a narrow, steep-walled valley, which widens out into a sandy channel as it enters the Sonoita Valley a few miles south of Patagonia.Much of Harshaw Creek is located within the Coronado National Forest and is available for recreational use. Several ranches are also located alongside the creek, although cattle grazing is limited. The creek and its tributaries were the center of extensive gold and silver mining activity beginning at the end of the 19th century and lasting well into the 20th century. As a result, there are multiple abandoned mines in the area, which are a significant source of pollution. Because of this, Harshaw Creek has a significantly higher pH level than other nearby streams.
