The Bille Brown Theatre is a 351-seat theatre in Brisbane, Australia. The theatre is a corner-stage with raked seating on three sides. It is the main venue for Queensland Theatre. It reopened in October 2018 after a $5.5 million renovation which converted it from the former 228-seat Bille Brown Studio.

On 27 March 2014 the 21-year-old French student Sophie Collombet was raped and bludgeoned to death in Kurilpa Point Park in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She had been on her way home from a three-hour lecture at Griffith University where she was studying her Masters of Business. On 7 April Australian citizen Benjamin James Milward from Ipswich, Queensland was arrested and charged with her murder and rape. He was given a life sentence for the murder and rape on 25 October 2016 at the Supreme Court of Queensland in Brisbane. He had been using the illegal drug "ice" at the time of her murder.The case attracted adverse commentary about Australian society as Collombet was believed to be still alive when Milward left her; a number of people had walked past her naked body, which was covered with newspapers and Milward's jacket, but took no action believing her to be a homeless person, many of whom slept in that area. It was a homeless person who eventually checked on Collombet and found no pulse; CPR was attempted without success. Police were also criticised for failing to make the Kurilpa Point Park a safe place despite a number of recent crimes reported there. The park is beside the Brisbane River immediately between the busy William Jolly Bridge and the Gallery of Modern Art at the northern end of the Queensland Cultural Precinct. A popular riverbank walking/cycling track passes through the park.On 10 April 2014, over 2,000 people participated in a march and candlelight vigil in memory of Collombet. The march commenced at King George Square in front of Brisbane City Hall with speeches and then proceeded to the Kurilpa Point Park where the candlelight vigil was held. The organisers of the march said one of the purposes of the march was "to show that Brisbane cares about violence against women”.There was also criticism of the location (27.4739°S 153.0148°E / -27.4739; 153.0148 (Ozcare Hostel)) of a Catholic Ozcare hostel for homeless men and those recently paroled from prison for offences including murder and rape as being too close to Brisbane's major cultural precinct. Milward had been living at the hostel but had failed to return by the curfew on the night of the murder. He had obtained the drug "ice" which fuelled his attack on Collombet from another resident of the hostel.Sophie Collombet was buried in her hometown of Saint-Julien-Mont-Denis a commune in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. Her funeral was a large event where 1200 villagers took part in a grant funeral procession behind her casket with a 120-piece brass band playing Chopin's mournful Marche Funebre (funeral march).

The William Jolly Bridge is a heritage-listed road bridge over the Brisbane River between North Quay in the Brisbane CBD and Grey Street in South Brisbane, within City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by A E Harding Frew and built from 1928 to 1932 by M R Hornibrook Ltd. The style of the bridge's design is Art Deco, which was popular at the time. Manuel R. Hornibrook's company built the bridge that consists of two piers that were built in the river and two pylons on the river banks, which support three graceful arches. The rainbow arch type, as it was described, was claimed to be the first of its type in Australia. It is a steel frame arch bridge with an unusual concrete veneer, treated to make it appear like "light-coloured porphyry".When opened, during the worst year of the Great Depression, the bridge was known simply as the Grey Street Bridge. It was renamed to the William Jolly Bridge on 5 July 1955 in memory of William Jolly, the first Lord Mayor of Greater Brisbane. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 6 August 1996.

The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) is an art museum located within the Queensland Cultural Centre in the South Bank precinct of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The gallery is part of QAGOMA. GOMA, which opened on 2 December 2006, is the largest gallery of modern and contemporary art in Australia, and houses Australia's first purpose-built cinematheque. The gallery is situated on Kurilpa Point next to the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) building and the State Library of Queensland, and faces the Brisbane River and the CBD. The Gallery of Modern Art has a total floor area over 25,000 square metres (270,000 sq ft) and the largest exhibition gallery is 1,100 square metres (12,000 sq ft). The building was designed by Sydney architecture firm Architectus.

St Mary's Catholic Church is a heritage-listed Roman Catholic church at 20 Merivale Street (corner of Peel Street), South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Simkin & Ibler and built from 1892 to 1929. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 3 December 2004.

The Merivale Bridge is a double track railway bridge crossing the Brisbane River. It crosses the Milton Reach of the river, slightly to the west of the William Jolly Bridge. Exclusively a railway crossing, it is located between the stations of South Brisbane and Roma Street, linking the northern and southern elements of the Queensland Rail City network. The Merivale Bridge is the only inner-city rail crossing in Brisbane. By 2016 it was expected to be over capacity, leading the Queensland Government to announce the Cross River Rail project.The Merivale Bridge opened on 18 November 1978 by Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen. At the opening, the then Premier, described the occasion as "the start of the second stage in the history of Queensland Railways".It formed a more direct route into the city for Brisbane's southern system suburban trains than the existing route via Corinda. Since 1986 it also has carried the standard gauge line from New South Wales. It was designed by Cameron McNamara Pty Ltd (consulting engineers) and was fabricated and erected by Transfield. The bridge has been recognised with a number of awards. In 1980 it was named the most outstanding engineering project from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Australia. Judges appreciated the combination of aesthetics and functionality. It also won the 1979 Steel Award.

Mephisto is a World War I German tank, the only surviving example of an A7V. In April 1918, during a German attack at Villers-Bretonneux on the Western Front, it became stuck in a shell-hole and was abandoned by its crew. It was recovered by Allied troops about three months later and, after the war, taken to Australia as a trophy. Mephisto is housed at the Queensland Museum, in Brisbane, in the Anzac Legacy Gallery. It is not in running order.

The Kurilpa Bridge (originally known as the Tank Street Bridge) is a A$63 million pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The bridge connects Kurilpa Point in South Brisbane to Tank Street in the Brisbane central business district. In 2011, the bridge was judged World Transport Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival.Baulderstone built the bridge and the company's design team included Cox Rayner Architects and Arup Engineers. A sod turning ceremony was held at Kurilpa Park, South Brisbane on 12 December 2007. The bridge was opened on 4 October 2009 by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.

The Queensland Cultural Centre is a heritage-listed cultural centre at Grey Street, South Brisbane, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is part of the South Bank precinct on the Brisbane River. It was built from 1976.The major components of the centre are Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), the Queensland Museum, the State Library of Queensland (SLQ), the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA). The original part was designed by Brisbane architects Robin Gibson and Partners and opened in 1985.The centre is surrounded by sub-tropical gardens which are open to the public. There are several cafés, restaurants, bookshops and other public facilities located throughout the site. The south-western part of the Queensland Cultural Centre was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 12 June 2015. The heritage listing consisted of Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum, the Queensland Art Gallery but not the more recent Queensland Gallery of Modern Art nor the renovated State Library of Queensland .

The Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) is an art museum located in South Bank, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The gallery is part of QAGOMA. It complements the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) building, situated only 150 metres (490 ft) away. The Queensland Art Gallery is owned and operated by the Government of Queensland, which created the institution in 1895 as the Queensland National Art Gallery.
