The U.S. Geological Survey National Center, officially the John Wesley Powell Federal Building, is a historic building and the headquarters of the United States Geological Survey (USGS)—an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI)—located in Reston, Virginia. Built in 1974, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.

The scientists of the USGS study the landscape of the United States, its natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten it. The organization's work spans the disciplines of biology, geography, geology, and hydrology. The USGS is a fact-finding research organization with no regulatory responsibility. The USGS is a bureau of the United States Department of the Interior; it is that department's sole scientific agency. The USGS employs approximately 8,670 people and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia. The USGS also has major offices near Lakewood, Colorado, at the Denver Federal Center, and Menlo Park, California. The current motto of the USGS, in use since August 1997, is "science for a changing world". The agency's previous slogan, adopted on the occasion of its hundredth anniversary, was "Earth Science in the Public Service".

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) of the United States was created under the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (MCTRJCA) as an independent authority within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The purpose of FirstNet is to establish, operate, and maintain an interoperable public safety broadband network. To fulfill these objectives, Congress allotted $7 billion and 20 MHz of radio spectrum to build the network.

Herndon (preliminary names Herndon–Monroe, Herndon–Reston West) is a planned Washington Metro station in Fairfax County, Virginia on the Silver Line. The station would be in the median strip of VA-267 adjacent to the current Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride parking garage and bus station, which is on the south side of the highway. This location is in Reston, but has a Herndon postal address. In anticipation of a future mass transit route in the Dulles Access Road median, in 1999 Fairfax County constructed a $20 million park and ride facility which includes a Fairfax Connector station that serves most bus lines in the Herndon and Reston areas as well as buses carrying commuters to the West Falls Church or other Metro stations daily. The existing facility is served by direct westbound on-ramps and eastbound off-ramps to SR 267. The existing parking garage has 1,750 spaces. The garage has drawn criticism because of alleged construction flaws. The garage will be expanded to 3,500 spaces for the Metro station. Originally planned for revenue operations in 2018, the station is now expected to open in July 2022. In the meantime, the Town of Herndon has initiated transportation oriented development of the land on the north side of the station. In turn, the Town of Herndon, on November 10, 2009, designated commercial, industrial and multi-unit rental residential properties within the town boundaries for inclusion in a special tax district to fund construction of Phase II of the Silver Line.

Reston Town Center (preliminary name Reston Parkway) is a rapid transit station under construction on the Silver Line of the Washington Metro in Reston, an unincorporated area in Northern Virginia. It is now expected to open in July 2022. The station is located in the central section of Reston, specifically within the median of SR 267 (Dulles Toll Road) west of its interchange with SR 602 (Reston Parkway). Reston Town Center is approximately 2,000 ft (610 m) to the north of the station.

The gallery represents original production artwork (such as animation cels) and limited edition pieces, as well as film and illustrative art (e.g. giclées ). All pieces displayed in the gallery are for sale and exhibits regarding specific themes are arranged regularly.The gallery has been host to many film and animation related exhibitions and continues to exclusively host official production and concept artwork from specific artists in the industry. Herndon Historic District is a national historic district located at Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia. It encompasses 173 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing structure in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Herndon. They include 104 houses, 20 commercial buildings, 6 institutional buildings, 4 industrial buildings, 30 garages, 8 barns, the pumphouse, the gas generating building, the water tower and the town square. Most of the buildings were constructed between 1890 and 1920. Notable buildings include the Town Hall (1939), Nachmans Department Store, National Bank of Herndon (1910), 5 and Dime Cafe (1920s), Sanitary Grocery Store, Loudoun Hall or the Paine House, Benjamin Detweiler House (1890), and the Bicksler House. Located in the district is the separately listed Herndon Depot.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
