The Tree of Knowledge is a relief mural by the artist Alan Boyson. It was created in 1962 for Cromwell Secondary School for Girls in Salford, England, and erected on an end wall on the exterior of the school building. It is made from concrete, with ceramic tiles and pebbles collected from the site for which it was designed It measures approximately 7 metres (23 ft) square. It depicts five stylised birds, one an owl, sitting in a tree.In August 2009, when the former school building was due to be demolished, the Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society, The Salford Star (a local magazine), and local residents campaigned successfully to have the mural given statutory protection by being "listed" by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The notice granting it Grade II listed status said: It has a high level of aesthetic and artistic quality represented in a bold and striking composition The rest of the building was subsequently demolished, leaving only the wall on which the mural sits, plus enough of the side walls to support it. Boyson also made a ceramic tiled wall, since lost, for the school's entrance hall. The combined commission was worth £400.In May 2021, planning permission was submitted for the construction of 21 houses and 24 apartments on the site with the plan to retain the mural.

Irwell Riverside (ward) is an electoral ward of Salford, England. The ward is bounded by meanders of the River Irwell and includes the main University of Salford campus. It is represented in Westminster by Rebecca Long-Bailey MP for Salford and Eccles. A profile of the ward conducted by Salford City Council in 2014 recorded a population of 12,939.

Wat Phra Dhammakaya Manchester (Thai: วัดเจริญภาวนา แมนเชสเตอร์; lit. 'the temple for cultivation of meditation'), also known in English as the North-West Centre for Buddhist Meditation, is a Thai Buddhist temple in Salford, England. Established on 8 February 2004 in a converted curtain-rail factory, it was the first Thai Buddhist temple in the northwest of England. The temple was named Wat Phra Dhammakaya Manchester by the Thai community, and was consecrated with the blessing of the Most Venerable Phrarajbhavanavimol, head of the Thai Buddhist mission to England. The temple was accepted as an official place for religious worship (no.81212) on 4 June 2004 with the help of the Thai Culture Forum UK. Originally the temple had no Buddha image. The eight-foot Buddha image which has pride of place in the main shrine room was rescued from a roadside in Cardiff. The temple runs a variety of pastoral services for the Buddhist community in Manchester and marks most of the events in the Thai Buddhist calendar. A variety of evening classes on Buddhism and meditation are run on weekdays and Thai language classes on weekends.

Pendleton is an inner-city suburb and district of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The A6 dual carriageway skirts the east of the district. Historically in Lancashire, Pendleton experienced rapid urbanisation during the Industrial Revolution.

Pendleton Bridge railway station was a railway station in Pendleton, Salford built on the Manchester and Bolton Railway, between Salford and Clifton Junction. The station was accessed from Station Street, just west of Broughton Road (A576). It was unusual in having a canal, the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal, running alongside the station behind the up (southbound) platform. This station has been known by at least two names: originally opened as Pendleton Bridge in September 1843, it has also been known as Pendleton Old, and by the time of its closure on 5 December 1966, was known simply as Pendleton. The other station in Pendleton, near the church, was known as Pendleton Broad Street until Pendleton Bridge closed. The station no longer exists.

Pendleton (Broad Street) railway station was a railway station serving Pendleton, a district of Salford. It was located on Broughton Road (A576) just behind St. Thomas' Church (Pendleton Church). It was about 100 yards further up Broughton Road from Pendleton Bridge railway station and nearer Pendleton Church and Broad Street (A6). This station was known as Pendleton Broad Street due to its closeness to the A6 Broad Street some 100 yards away. It was on the Manchester Victoria to Wigan Wallgate line with a spur to the Manchester Victoria to Bolton line so trains to Bolton used it after the closure of Pendleton Bridge in 1966, and "Broad Street" was then dropped from its name.

Broughton Suspension Bridge was an iron chain suspension bridge built in 1826 to span the River Irwell between Broughton and Pendleton, now in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. One of Europe's first suspension bridges, it has been attributed to Samuel Brown, although some suggest it was built by Thomas Cheek Hewes, a Manchester millwright and textile machinery manufacturer.On 12 April 1831, the bridge collapsed, reportedly due to mechanical resonance induced by troops marching in step. As a result of the incident, the British Army issued an order that troops should "break step" when crossing a bridge. Although rebuilt and strengthened, the bridge was subsequently propped with temporary piles whenever crowds were expected. In 1924 it was replaced by a Pratt truss footbridge, still in use.

Salford Crescent railway station is a railway station in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, opened by British Rail in 1987. The station is 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Salford Central, 1.75 miles (2.82 km) west of Manchester Victoria and 2.25 miles (3.62 km) west of Manchester Piccadilly. It consists of a single island platform with a ticket office and waiting room. The station is near the University of Salford, between the Peel Park and Frederick Road Campus. Salford Crescent is the point of a split in the Manchester–Preston line, with local services running on to Manchester Victoria and long-distance services going to Manchester Piccadilly (via the 1988 Windsor Link to Ordsall Lane Junction), and is also part of the line between Manchester and Southport, frequently being used as an interchange between the two lines. Manchester North signalling centre was formerly located at the station, prior to its closure in April 2015. Ticket gates have been in operation at the station since 2016.

St Thomas' Church is on Broad Street, Pendleton, Salford, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Salford, the archdeaconry of Salford, and the diocese of Manchester. Its benefice is united with those of five nearby churches including St Aidan’s, Lower Kersal; St Luke’s, Weaste; Emmanuel LEP, Langworthy and Holy Angels, Claremont to form the Salford All Saints' Team Ministry. The church is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission.

Windsor Bridge railway station served the suburb of Pendleton, historically in Lancashire, England, from 1838 to 1856 on the Manchester and Bolton Railway. On the 1848 OS map, Windsor Bridge is where The Crescent crosses the railway. Today, this is the site of Salford Crescent station.

It is based in two locations: (i) 3 km west of Manchester city centre, UK, in the Newton Building on the Peel Park Campus of the University of Salford, and (ii) on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Manchester at MediaCityUK.

Peel Park is a public urban park in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, located on the flood plain of the River Irwell below Salford Crescent and adjacent to the University of Salford. It was the first of three public parks to be opened on 22 August 1846, for the people of Manchester and Salford, paid for by public subscription. The park was the main public venue for the 1851 royal visit of Queen Victoria to Manchester and Salford and has been the subject of a number of paintings by the Salford artist, L.S. Lowry. Peel Park fell into disrepair during the latter part of the twentieth century but underwent a £1.6m refurbishment in 2017 after a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. It was added to the Rgister of Historic Parks and Gardens by Historic England in December 2023.
