Neskowin Ghost Forest

Neskowin Creek is a short stream near the coast of the U.S. State of Oregon. It flows generally west-northwest for about 10 miles (16 km) from the west slope of Neskowin Ridge in the Northern Oregon Coast Range to the Pacific Ocean. Passing through parts of the Siuslaw National Forest in southern Tillamook County, it crosses under U.S. Route 101 (the Oregon Coast Highway) and flows parallel to it until reaching Neskowin Beach State Recreation Site and the community of Neskowin. Proposal Rock, a small island near the shore, is adjacent to the mouth of the creek. Named tributaries from source to mouth are Sutton Creek, which enters from the right, Kingdom Creek from the left, then Sloan, Lewis, Jim, Prospect, and Kiwanda creeks, all from the right.

Proposal Rock is an island off the coast of the U.S. state of Oregon, in Tillamook County, near the community of Neskowin. The island is named for a local legend of a sea captain taking his beloved there to propose to her. The proposal was from Charley Gage to Della Page sometime around 1900. Della's mother, Sarah, then dubbed it Proposal Rock to mark the occasion.Proposal Rock was originally called “Schlock” by the Native Americans who first lived there.

Neskowin Beach State Recreation Site is a state park in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States, administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Neskowin is an unincorporated community in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States, along the Pacific Ocean between Cascade Head and Nestucca Bay. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Neskowin as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name. The population of the CDP was 134 at the 2010 census, a decrease from 169 at the 2000 census.

Chitwood Falls is a waterfall from the Chitwood Creek, just before it empties into the Cascade Head North Marine Protected Area, in Tillamook County, Oregon. Access to Chitwood Falls is from Forest Road 1861.

Cascade Head is a headland and 102,110-acre (41,320 ha) UNESCO biosphere reserve and United States Forest Service Experimental Forest. It is situated 85 miles (137 km) southwest of Portland, Oregon on the Oregon Coast between Lincoln City and Neskowin. Cascade Head Preserve is a Nature Conservancy Selected Site.

The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, located in Otis, Oregon, United States, was established in 1970 as an entity of the Neskowin Coast Foundation, which was founded May 8, 1970. The Sitka Center was established to expand the relationships between art, ecology, and humanity.The center offers workshops in writing, art, environmental studies and other avenues of creative inquiry, in a cluster of classrooms and studios within view of the Pacific Ocean. From September through May, the Sitka Center offers a residency program for artists, writers and scholars. The center offers promising applicants a place to live and work, free of charge for up to four months; in return, the residents perform community outreach during their stay, including free exhibits and lectures on the Cascade Head Campus.The Sitka Center was established by Jane and Frank Boyden.The organization is a member of the Alliance of Artists Communities, which focuses on creating residency opportunities for artists all over the country.

Camp Westwind is a summer camp on the Oregon Coast in the United States, that takes place at the historic 'Westwind' property just north of Lincoln City and south of Cascade Head.

The Salmon River flows from the Central Oregon Coast Range to the Pacific Ocean coast of northwest Oregon in the United States. About 24 miles (39 km) long, it begins and ends in Lincoln County but also flows briefly through western Polk and southern Tillamook counties. Much of its course lies within the Siuslaw National Forest.Rising in the mountains near the Lincoln–Polk county line, it flows east into Polk County, then north and west, re-entering Lincoln County, entering Tillamook County and re-entering Lincoln County near Oregon Route 18. It continues generally west-southwestward through the Siuslaw National Forest, turning west again to enter the Pacific near Cascade Head, about 4 miles (6 km) north of Lincoln City.Following the river through the mountains, Route 18 connects to Sheridan, McMinnville and the South Yamhill River valley to the east and U.S. Route 101 to the west. The river and highway pass through the Van Duzer Forest Corridor State Wayside. The river supports populations of wild steelhead and coastal cutthroat trout, as well as chinook and coho salmon released each year from a hatchery at Otis.

Oretown is an unincorporated community in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. It is along U.S. Route 101 about 4 miles (6 km) north of Neskowin and south of Nestucca Bay.In 1877, settlers James B. Upton and S. H. Rock petitioned Senator John H. Mitchell asking for a mail route to Grand Ronde and a post office. Upton owned a seal marked "Oregon City", so he suggested the new post office be named "Ore City" and he would alter the seal so it could be used for the new community. Mitchell knew confusion with Oregon City would occur, and suggested the name "Oretown" to the postal authorities instead. The name was accepted and Oretown post office ran from 1877 to 1954. Today Oretown has a Cloverdale mailing address.At one time Oretown had a cheese factory and a salmon cannery. Today the community has a historic church, the 1913 Oretown Bible Church, a Grange hall built in 1907, and a few houses.

Nestucca Bay is a bay formed by the confluence of the Nestucca River and the Pacific Ocean in northwest Oregon in the United States. It is near the town of Pacific City, which is in southwestern Tillamook County, about 12 miles (19 km) south of Cape Lookout. The bay is a bar-built estuary and totals 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) in area.The Nestucca and Little Nestucca rivers enter the bay. The bay is separated from the Pacific Ocean by the Nestucca Spit which includes Bob Straub State Park. A part of Nestucca Bay is included in the Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Pixieland was an amusement park near Otis Junction, Oregon, United States, located about three miles (5 km) north of Lincoln City. Opened in 1969, it operated for only four years.The name and theme of the park came from nearby Lincoln City. A popular restaurant there was named Pixie Kitchen, which opened in 1930 and had the slogan "Heavenly Food on the Oregon Coast". Jerry Parks and his wife Lu Parks ran Pixie Kitchen and announced in 1967 the vision of Pixieland as a 57-acre (230,000 m2) "Fairytale Story of Oregon."The park opened on June 28, 1969 with a dedication from Governor Tom McCall to the "families of Oregon". More than $800,000 was invested, including two public stock offerings. Pixieland hired two former Disneyland employees: the director of music and director of special promotions.Rides included a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge train called Little Toot (later renamed Little Pixie) and a log flume. Entertainment was found at the Blue Bell Opera House where melodramas were performed. Other buildings and attractions included the Main Street Arcade, the Print Shop, The Shootout, and the Darigold Cheese Barn. Eating places included Fisher Scones and Franz Bread Rest Hut.A 1975 headline in the Oregon Journal declared "Pixieland Dream Goes 'Poof!': Dreams of a multimillion dollar fantasy world shattered into a fiscal nightmare." After the park closed, the rides were sold and the buildings demolished. The Little Pixie (renamed Merriweather) and log flume rides were sold to Lagoon amusement park where they still operate today. For several decades, the Pixieland site was an RV park which transitioned into a trailer home park. Today, a tide-gate house with a pink painted roof is the only trace of Pixieland.Since the early 1980s, Siuslaw National Forest has been under mandate to restore the Salmon River estuary conditions which development of Pixieland partially disrupted with creek diversions and dikes. The site is now being transformed back into its original wetland state.
