The population in 2011 was 10,261, in an area of 145.35 km2.The municipality was created in 1836 by splitting the former municipality Lafões into the current municipalities of Oliveira de Frades, Sao Pedro do Sul and Vouzela. It is one of the few municipalities in Portugal without territorial continuity (the other being Montijo and Vila Real de Santo António): its territory comprehends two parts, with the town of Oliveira de Frades located in the bigger part, and Arca e Varzielas in the smaller part. The present mayor is Paulo Ferreira, elected by the Nós, Cidadãos! party. The municipal holiday is October 7.

Estádio Carlos Osório is a stadium in Oliveira de Azeméis, Aveiro, Portugal. It is currently used for football matches and is the home ground of Liga de Honra side U.D. Oliveirense. The ground holds a seating capacity of 1,750. The stadium is named after a local villager called Carlos Osório who gave permission to the club to construct the stadium on his piece of land. Following Oliveirense's promotion from the Portuguese Second Division to the Liga de Honra in the 2007–08 season, the LPFP instructed the club to remodel the stadium as well as renovate it due to the professional league criteria requiring better pitch conditions.

The mountain is part of the intermunicipal community of Viseu Dão Lafões and is populated by villages with granite houses and espigueiros typical of this region. Some traces of Neolithic and Roman occupation, such as the megaliths and stone tracks, can still be found in the range. It has a rich flora, predominated by Genista tridentata and heather and also the rare Rhododendron ponticum.The Caramulinho is the highest peak of the range where the Atlantic Ocean and Serra da Estrela are visible in the clearest days.The small locality of Caramulo is also part of the range.
