Statue of Charles II, Soho Square

Soho Square is a garden square in Soho, London, hosting since 1954 a de facto public park let by the Soho Square Garden Committee to Westminster City Council. It was originally called King Square after Charles II, and a much weathered statue of the monarch has stood in the square, with an extended interruption, since 1661, one year after the restoration of the monarchy. Of the square's 30 buildings (including mergers), 16 are listed (have statutory recognition and protection). During the summer, Soho Square hosts open-air free concerts. By the time of the drawing of a keynote map of London in 1746 the newer name for the square had gained sway. The central garden and some buildings were owned by the Howard de Walden Estate, main heir to the Dukedom of Portland's great London estates.At its centre is a listed mock "market cross" building, completed in 1926 to hide the above-ground features of a contemporary electricity substation; small, octagonal, with Tudorbethan timber framing. During the king's statue's absence through intercession of resident business Crosse & Blackwell it was a private garden feature at Grim's Dyke, a country house where it was kept by painter Frederick Goodall then by dramatist, librettist, poet and illustrator W. S. Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. Initial residents were relatively significant landowners and merchants. Some of the square remains residential. From the 1820s to the 1860s, at least eleven artists recently qualified for major exhibitions were resident aside from permanent residents, some of whom were more accomplished artists, as comprised in the local rate books; by the end of that century charities, music, art and other creative design businesses had taken several premises along the square. A legacy of creative design and philanthropic occupants lingers including the British Board of Film Classification, 20th Century Studios UK, Dolby Europe Ltd, Tiger Aspect Productions, Saint Patrick's Catholic Church which provides many social outreach projects to local homeless and addicts, the French Protestant Church of London (by architect Aston Webb) and the House of St Barnabas, a members' club since 2013, which fundraises and hosts events and exhibitions for homelessness-linked good causes.

13 Soho Square is a Grade II* listed building in Soho Square, London. It was built between 1768 and 1769, with earlier woodwork around 1677. The building was home to a number of notable residents, including the merchant and Whig politician Sir Isaac Rebow, the Jacobite George Mackenzie, 3rd Earl of Cromartie, and the physician George Leman Tuthill. In the 1970s and 80s 13 Soho Square was the home of Richard Williams Animation, where a number of award-winning films were made, including the short film A Christmas Carol, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 1972.

Manor House, 21 Soho Square is a Grade II listed building in the West End of London. It has 17th-century origins but the existing structure dates from 1838. It was originally built in 1678 as a townhouse but through its history has also been a notorious brothel, the headquarters of Crosse & Blackwell and is now an office building.

The French Protestant Church of London (Église protestante française de Londres) is a Reformed / Presbyterian church that has catered to the French-speaking community of London since 1550. It is the last remaining Huguenot church of London. Its current temple in Soho Square is a Grade II* listed building designed by Aston Webb and erected in 1891–93.

Fauconberg House was a house in Soho Square in the City of Westminster, London. It was demolished in 1924. The house was occupied from 1683 to 1700 by Thomas Belasyse, 1st Earl Fauconberg. The last member of the Fauconberg family to live at the house was Mary Cromwell; she was the third daughter of Oliver Cromwell and the wife of the 1st Earl Fauconberg.Subsequently it was occupied by Arthur Onslow, then Speaker of the House of Commons. The lease was sold by Onslow to John Campbell, 4th Duke of Argyll. The Duke of Argyll lived at Fauconberg House until his death in 1770; following his death, it was sold to John Grant, a Scottish lawyer and owner of sugar plantations in the West Indies. The neo-classical architect Robert Adam was commissioned by Grant to improve the house. After Grant's death, Fauconberg House became Wright's Hotel and Coffee House.The house belonged to a company of musical instrument makers at the start of the 19th century, and was owned by Crosse & Blackwell from 1858. Fauconberg House was demolished by Crosse & Blackwell in 1924, and their new headquarters was built on the site.

Monmouth House was a 17th-century mansion in Soho Square (then called King’s Square) built for the Duke of Monmouth, the oldest illegitimate son of King Charles II. After the Duke's execution for attempting to lead a rebellion against the unpopular Catholic successor to Charles, James II, the house was owned by the Bateman family and loaned to various important people including the French ambassador before being demolished in 1773.

St Patrick's Church is a large Roman Catholic parish church in Soho Square, London. St Pat's (as it is informally known) was consecrated as a chapel in a building behind Carlisle House on 29 September 1792, one of the first Catholic buildings allowed in Great Britain after the Reformation. The present church building was built between 1891 and 1893, to designs by John Kelly of Leeds, and replaced the earlier and smaller chapel built by Father Arthur O'Leary in the 1790s. The church has an unusual longish shape due to plot constrictions given at that time. The building is constructed out of bricks with a bell-tower. It is Grade II* listed. The main entrance has a Roman-style porch with Corinthian columns. Above the entrance is an inscription: VT CHRISTIANI ITA ET ROMANI SITIS ("Ut christiani ita et romani sitis", i.e. “Be ye Christians as those of the Roman Church”). It is a quotation taken from the writings of St. Patrick.The building was closed for renovation and refurbishment between 28 February 2010 and 31 May 2011. During the renovations, services were held in the nearby Chapel of St Barnabas, at The House of St Barnabas.

The House of St Barnabas, at 1 Greek Street, Soho, is a Grade I Listed Georgian building in London notable for its rococo plasterwork interiors and for other architectural features. Since 1862 the House has been run as a charity to help those who have experienced homelessness. The name of the organisation was changed from the "House of Charity" to the "House of St Barnabas" in 1951. The building functioned as a hostel for women until 2006.The not-for-profit members' club at The House of St Barnabas opened in October 2013.

The Metropolitan Commission of Sewers was one of London's first steps towards bringing its sewer and drainage infrastructure under the control of a single public body. It was absorbed by the Metropolitan Board of Works on 1 January 1856.

The Westminster and Middlesex Commission of Sewers was established in 1596 under the 1531 Statute of Sewers. Its area was defined by statute in 1807, and before then by various letters patent.It was absorbed by the Metropolitan Commission of Sewers on 1 January 1849.

The Gay Hussar was a celebrated Hungarian restaurant located at 2 Greek Street, Soho, central London, England.

Hazlitt's is a townhouse hotel located at 6 Frith Street, Soho, London, in very close proximity to Soho Theatre. The building is Georgian and dates back to 1718, four storeys, with typical long Georgian-bay windows painted in beige. Owned by Peter McKay and Douglas Blain, it is named after the essayist William Hazlitt who died in the house in 1830; he has a blue plaque on the wall to the left of the front door. Due to its heritage, the hotel is popular with writers, but also artists, ledges, actors and models. It was awarded the César Award for London Hotel of the Year by The Good Hotel Guide in 2002.The hotel has 30 rooms – 3 singles, 24 doubles, 2 junior suites and 1 suite. The rooms are furnished with four poster beds, antiques and old paintings and the bathrooms contain claw-footed baths. The hotel contains over 2,000 paintings and prints. The rooftop of the hotel has been used for photoshoots.
