Aspen Hall is a historic plantation house located near Pittsboro, Chatham County, North Carolina. The original section was built in the 1790s, and took its present form between about 1830 and 1840. It is a two-story, weatherboarded gable roofed Federal style frame house, with a Greek Revival style facade. It was built by Joseph John "Chatham Jack" Alston, who enslaved as many as 163 people and also built the nearby Alston-DeGraffenried Plantation.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.See Elias Hall for a description of who built this house.

Alston-DeGraffenried Plantation or Alston-DeGraffenried House is a historic property located in Chatham County, North Carolina, near Pittsboro, North Carolina. It includes a plantation house built through the forced labor of at least 11 enslaved people between about 1810 and 1825, and its surrounding agricultural fields. The property was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and the listed area was increased in 1993. The house and the surrounding land are identified as a national historic district. The district encompasses seven contributing buildings, two contributing sites, and one contributing structure. They include the main house, kitchen, pig boiling pit, four-seat privy, smokehouse, two-seat privy, corn crib, small barn, well shelter, and the surrounding landscape. The main house is a two-story, five-bay, Georgian/ Federal style dwelling. It sits on a raised brick basement and has a tall hipped roof. It has a full-width Victorian porch and a number of one-story rear additions.The house was built for Delia Alston by her father, Joseph John "Chatham Jack" Alston, at the time of Delia's marriage to John Baker DeGraffenried. It was one of six homes that Alston, one of the largest landowners and enslavers in the area, built for his children. He also built nearby Aspen Hall.

The house is almost identical to the nearby William P. Hadley House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.In 2017, DeGraffenredt-Johnson House was moved to Maine to avoid the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.

The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance is a biannual music and dance festival in the United States, held on the first Thursday thru Sunday in May and October in Pittsboro, North Carolina. The festival takes place on a 75-acre (300,000 m2) venue which is managed by Shakori Hills Community Arts Center Inc. (SHCAC), a nonprofit organization. The festival supports the music and art programs of the SHCAC. It is associated with and modeled after the larger Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival that takes place near Trumansburg, New York each summer. The spring festival started in April 2003 and the fall festival was launched in 2004.

Silk Hope, in Chatham County, North Carolina, United States, is a farm community centered on a school, a volunteer fire department, several country churches, and many historical farmsteads. Some residents who work in Cary, Chapel Hill, and Research Triangle Park have established "country" homes here. Its ZIP Code is 27344.According to oral history, the name came from an early 19th-century enterprise to develop a silk industry here. Entrepreneurs imported silk worms and planted mulberry trees, but were not successful. No signs remain of the silk ambitions. Farmers in the area also cultivated cotton in the antebellum years, and used a local cotton gin that once stood at the Silk Hope crossroads. Due to soil limitations, they could not produce much of the commodity crop. Community residents come together each Labor Day to celebrate their heritage at the "Silk Hope Old Fashioned Farmers Day". The Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival held nearby has attracted more than 4,500 people.The DeGraffenreidt-Johnson House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
