Barrhill (Scots: Baurhill) is a village in South Ayrshire, Scotland with a population of approximately 400 in 2001.While the surrounding area is predominantly agricultural land, the main local employer is Barr Construction Ltd. Local amenities include a village store and a Public House, "The Trout Inn", formerly known as "The Commercial Hotel". On Main Street, in the centre of the village is Barrhill Bowling Club, affectionately known to locals as "The BBC". The Cross Water (a tributary of the River Stinchar – not to be confused with the Cross Water of Luce) flows through the village. Barrhill Primary School serves the local population, providing education for 5–11 year olds. In the 2006/7 academic year it had a roll of 34 pupils.Black Clauchrie House is a manor house and former hunting lodge, located just outside Barrhill. The house's architecture and decoration are a notable example of the Edwardian Arts and Crafts Movement. Kildonan House is an impressive early 20th century mansion and former convent school, located slightly north of Barrhill. Originally constructed as the home of Euan Wallace MP.

Pinwherry is a hamlet in the civil parish of Colmonell, in the council area of South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is 8 miles south of Girvan. In 1961 it had a population of 100. The hamlet contains the 16th century Pinwherry Castle.

Barr is a village in the South West of Ayrshire, Scotland, approximately 8 miles (13 km) from the town of Girvan. There are various opinions as to the origins of the name. The most likely is the Gaelic bàrr meaning 'a hill-top, a height'. It is believed to have been established in the 17th century by smugglers who needed a safe place close to the secluded bays of the Ayrshire coast while having access to the Raiders Road which runs close by. Barr has not grown much since that time. Currently Barr Village has a population of approximately 110, while the total for the Parish of Barr is in the region of 260.

Colmonell (Scottish Gaelic: Cill Cholmain Eala) (meaning the church of St. Colman of Lainn Eala - in Lynally, County Offaly, Ireland) is a small village and civil parish in the Stinchar Valley, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The nearest town is Girvan, 11 miles (18 kilometres) away. The River Stinchar runs through the valley and the Colmonell area boasts three ruined castles: Craigneil Castle (thirteenth century), Kirkhill Castle (sixteenth century) and Knockdolian Castle (sixteenth century). The village has a small primary school, pub, fire station and village church. With a small population, Colmonell is a close community. The village has an annual Church Fete in August and an agricultural show the same month. In June there is the annual gala day, or "Fun Day", which is run by the Community Association. This has been extended in recent years to become a "Fun Week" during which a range of activities are arranged for the local community. Colmonell church was remodelled internally in 1899 by Robert Lorimer. Lorimer also designed the village war memorial in 1922.Lendalfoot and Carleton Port lie within the parish of Colmonell and have no church of their own. The 15th-century Carleton Castle stands above Lendalfoot with the Little Carleton Fort nearby.

Girvan (Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Gharbhain, "mouth of the River Girvan") is a burgh and harbour town in Carrick, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Girvan is situated on the east coast of the Firth of Clyde, with a population of about 6,450. It lies 21 miles (34 km) south of Ayr, and 29 miles (47 km) north of Stranraer, the main ferry port from Scotland to Northern Ireland. Deriving its name from the river which runs through the landscape the etymology of Girvan has possible Brythonic origins, related to the Welsh: Gearafon or Gwyrddafon, "river flowing through the green flourishing place, from afon or avon, a river, and Gwyrdd, green, flourishing").

Hadyard Hill Wind Farm is located in Carrick district of South Ayrshire. Costing £85 million, the wind farm consists of 52 three-bladed Siemens wind turbines, each capable of generating 2.3 megawatts (MW) of power, giving a total output of 120 MW. This was Britain's most powerful wind farm when it was commissioned in March 2006.The diameter of the blades is 80 metres (262 feet) and each turbine is mounted on tubular steel towers. The wind farm includes three permanent 60 metres (197-feet) high anemometer towers to monitor wind speeds, and is connected by a high-voltage overhead transmission line, which connects to the national electricity network at Maybole.The farm is operated by Scottish and Southern Energy Generation Ltd.
