Ampney St Mary is a small village and civil parish in the Cotswolds, part of the Cotswold District of Gloucestershire, England. According to the 2001 census the parish has a population of 54, increasing to 218 at the 2011 census.Ampney was listed in the Domesday Book of 1086.The Ampney Brook flows near the village, which is near to Ampney Crucis and Ampney St Peter, and is about four miles east of Cirencester. The village takes its name from the brook and the local church. The village is also locally known as "Ashbrook". The village has an 18th-century public house, the Red Lion, one of the few public houses left without a bar counter, though it is now closed. The Church of St Mary was built in the 12th and 13th centuries. It is a grade I listed building.

Poulton Priory or the Priory of St Mary was a Gilbertine priory in Poulton, Gloucestershire, England. It was founded as a chantry chapel in 1337 by Sir Thomas Seymour and became a house of Gilbertine canons in 1350. From 1539, with the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the priory was used as the parish church for Poulton. It was demolished in 1873.A Tudor style mansion was built on the site by Sir Arthur Blomfield for the Marshall family c. 1897. It was later owned by James Joicey and Major Alexander Black-Mitchell. In World War II, it was used as a children's hospital.

Despite comprising only a handful of houses it is located at a high point and is notable for being the meeting place of six country roads and nine parish boundaries. It lies at the intersection of the ancient drove road known as the Welsh Way and the Roman Akeman Street. It once possessed an inn, recorded in 1738 as under the sign Ready Token Ash.The name is a fusion of the Celtic word rhydd and the Saxon word tacen meaning the way to the ford. The ford being that across the River Coln at Fairford.It is the site of an unusual house which has a butterfly shaped plan which mirrors the local butterfly shaped road pattern. It was designed by the Arts and Crafts movement architect, Norman Jewson, and built in 1928–1929.
