Durham Students' Union, operating as Durham SU, is the students' union of Durham University in Durham, England. It is an organisation, originally set up as the Durham Colleges Students’ Representative Council in 1899 and renamed in 1969, with the intention of representing and providing welfare and services for the students of the University of Durham.

Palatinate is the student newspaper of Durham University. One of Britain's oldest student publications, Palatinate is frequently ranked as one of the leading student outlets in the UK and Ireland, winning Best Publication in the Student Publication Association's 2018 and 2021 national awards. In the same year Palatinate was Highly Commended in the Best Publication category of the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme's Student Journalism Awards. Several of its editors have gone on to gain national recognition in journalism. The name of the newspaper derives from the colour Palatinate, a shade of purple closely associated with the university and derived from County Durham's political history as a County Palatine. It published its first edition on 17 March 1948 and celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018. Palatinate is published on a fortnightly basis during term time, and its editors-in-chief are elected by the editorial board. The paper emphasises news and investigations about Durham University, and also includes sports, science, comment, satire, and a pull-out arts and lifestyle magazine, Indigo. Durham Students’ Union previously paid for the publication of Palatinate, but the organisation now relies mostly on advertising and alumni donations to continue printing.In April 2020, Palatinate launched a video side, Palatinate TV. Combined, over 150 student volunteers work for the newspaper and video outlet.

Purple Radio is Durham University's Official Student Radio Station. Purple broadcasts online 24 hours a day during term time, from October until June each year.

Dunelm House is a Grade II listed university building in Durham, England, built in 1966 in the brutalist style. It belongs to Durham University and houses Durham Students' Union. Its listing entry cites, among other factors, that it is "a significant Brutalist building that reflects the latest in architectural thinking for its date" and that it is "the foremost students’ union building of the post-war era in England".

Grey College Boat Club (GCBC) is the rowing club of Grey College at Durham University in North East England. The club has over 70 active members and shares its boathouse with Josephine Butler College Boat Club. The club competes at a national, regional and college level. GCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "GRC" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing.

Butler College Boat Club (BCBC) is the rowing club of Josephine Butler College at Durham University on the River Wear in England. BCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing with the boat code BTL and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. In Durham, the club is a regular participant at Durham Regatta, races across the north east, the Head of the River Race and Durham College Rowing events. In 2023, BCBC set the course record at the Derwent Water Head over the 3km course, the first major headrace on this stretch since 1870. BCBC was founded in 2006 and is based at Dunelm House on the River Wear between Kingsgate Bridge and Elvet Bridge, alongside Grey College Boat Club.

St Oswald's Church is a Church of England parish church in Durham, County Durham. The church is a grade II* listed building and it dates from the 12th century.

Van Mildert College Boat Club (VMBC) is the rowing club of Van Mildert College, Durham at Durham University on the River Wear in England. VMBC was founded in 1965 by Simon Scott, an Engineering undergraduate at Durham University and one of the founding members of Van Mildert College. VMBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "VAN" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. In Durham, the club is a regular participant at Durham Regatta, races across the north east, the Head of the River Race and the Women's Eights Head of the River Race in London and Durham College Rowing events. The boathouse of the club is on the River Wear, opposite Dunelm House and below Kingsgate Bridge. The college boat house burnt down after an arsonist attacked it on 21 December 2021.

St Cuthbert's Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Durham, England. It was opened on 31 May 1827 to replace two previous chapels, one run by the secular clergy and the other by the Jesuits. It is also the home of the Durham University Catholic Chaplaincy and Catholic Society. From 2012 to 2016 the parish was entrusted, along with the chaplaincy, to the Dominican Order, and its congregation has since maintained the Dominicans' influence. The church is a protected building, being part of the Elvet Green Conservation Area. It is named for St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, the 7th century bishop, healer and patron of Northern England.

The Old Shire Hall is a former municipal building in Old Elvet, Durham. The building, which was the headquarters of Durham County Council from 1898 to 1963, is a Grade II listed building.

Hatfield College Boat Club (HCBC) is the rowing club of Hatfield College at Durham University on the River Wear in England. HCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "HAT" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. The club is open to members of the Hatfield College JCR, MCR and SCR of all abilities. There is a Novice Development programme for absolute beginners. HCBC also trains coxes and has a dedicated Coxes Captain. The club competes in head races and regattas across the country, including the Head of the River Race, Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Women's Regatta, Durham Regatta, as well as inter-collegiate competitions run by Durham College Rowing.

Durham Crown Court is a Crown Court venue which deals with criminal cases at Old Elvet, Durham, England. Located immediately to the north of Durham Prison, it is a Grade II* listed building.
