Grey College Boat Club (GCBC) is the rowing club of Grey College at Durham University in North East England. The club has over 70 active members and shares its boathouse with Josephine Butler College Boat Club. The club competes at a national, regional and college level. GCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "GRC" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing.

Butler College Boat Club (BCBC) is the rowing club of Josephine Butler College at Durham University on the River Wear in England. BCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing with the boat code BTL and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. In Durham, the club is a regular participant at Durham Regatta, races across the north east, the Head of the River Race and Durham College Rowing events. In 2023, BCBC set the course record at the Derwent Water Head over the 3km course, the first major headrace on this stretch since 1870. BCBC was founded in 2006 and is based at Dunelm House on the River Wear between Kingsgate Bridge and Elvet Bridge, alongside Grey College Boat Club.

Hatfield College Boat Club (HCBC) is the rowing club of Hatfield College at Durham University on the River Wear in England. HCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing, with Boat Code "HAT" and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. The club is open to members of the Hatfield College JCR, MCR and SCR of all abilities. There is a Novice Development programme for absolute beginners. HCBC also trains coxes and has a dedicated Coxes Captain. The club competes in head races and regattas across the country, including the Head of the River Race, Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Women's Regatta, Durham Regatta, as well as inter-collegiate competitions run by Durham College Rowing.

St Oswald's Church is a Church of England parish church in Durham, County Durham. The church is a grade II* listed building and it dates from the 12th century.

St Chad's College is a recognised (independent) college of Durham University in England, founded in 1904 as an Anglican hall for the training of Church of England clergy. The main part of the college is located on the Bailey, occupying nine historic buildings at the east end of Durham Cathedral. It neighbours Hatfield College to its north, while St John's College and St Cuthbert's Society are to its south. The college is named after St Chad of Mercia, a seventh-century bishop. Although it is the smallest of Durham's colleges in terms of student numbers (in 2018–19, the college had 409 undergraduates and 150 active postgraduates), it has the largest staff, extensive college library facilities, and among the highest undergraduate academic results in Durham.

Durham Students' Union, operating as Durham SU, is the students' union of Durham University in Durham, England. It is an organisation, originally set up as the Durham Colleges Students’ Representative Council in 1899 and renamed in 1969, with the intention of representing and providing welfare and services for the students of the University of Durham.

Palatinate is the student newspaper of Durham University. One of Britain's oldest student publications, Palatinate is frequently ranked as one of the leading student outlets in the UK and Ireland, winning Best Publication in the Student Publication Association's 2018 and 2021 national awards. In the same year Palatinate was Highly Commended in the Best Publication category of the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme's Student Journalism Awards. Several of its editors have gone on to gain national recognition in journalism. The name of the newspaper derives from the colour Palatinate, a shade of purple closely associated with the university and derived from County Durham's political history as a County Palatine. It published its first edition on 17 March 1948 and celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018. Palatinate is published on a fortnightly basis during term time, and its editors-in-chief are elected by the editorial board. The paper emphasises news and investigations about Durham University, and also includes sports, science, comment, satire, and a pull-out arts and lifestyle magazine, Indigo. Durham Students’ Union previously paid for the publication of Palatinate, but the organisation now relies mostly on advertising and alumni donations to continue printing.In April 2020, Palatinate launched a video side, Palatinate TV. Combined, over 150 student volunteers work for the newspaper and video outlet.

Purple Radio is Durham University's Official Student Radio Station. Purple broadcasts online 24 hours a day during term time, from October until June each year.

Dunelm House is a Grade II listed university building in Durham, England, built in 1966 in the brutalist style. It belongs to Durham University and houses Durham Students' Union. Its listing entry cites, among other factors, that it is "a significant Brutalist building that reflects the latest in architectural thinking for its date" and that it is "the foremost students’ union building of the post-war era in England".

Durham Museum and Heritage Centre is a museum in Durham, England. It details the history of the City of Durham from medieval times to the present day. The museum is located in the redundant church of St Mary-le-Bow, close to the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle. It is bounded on the north and east by Hatfield College; on the south by Bow Lane, and the west by North Bailey. The museum contains a variety of objects, models, pictures and audio-visual displays. These exhibitions provide the visitor with an overview of life, labour and leisure in this ancient fortified city, centre of pilgrimage and capital of the Prince Bishops of Durham. The museum also features a centre for making brass rubbings.

St Chad's College Boat Club (SCCCBC) is the rowing club of St Chad's College at Durham University on the River Wear in England. SCCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing with the boat code BTL and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing with boat code 'SCH'. In Durham, the club is a regular participant at Durham Regatta, races across the north east, Durham College Rowing events, the Head of the River Race in London and occasional charity events. The college's boat house is located on college-owned land on the banks of the River Wear, below the college's original home at 1 South Bailey, now part of St John's College. In 2016, the boat house and landing stage were completely replaced.

Hatfield College is one of the constituent colleges of Durham University in England. It occupies a city centre site above the River Wear on the World Heritage Site peninsula, lying adjacent to North Bailey and only a short distance from Durham Cathedral. Taking its name from a medieval Prince-Bishop of Durham, the college was founded in 1846 as Bishop Hatfield's Hall by David Melville, a former Oxford don. Melville disliked the 'rich living' of patrician undergraduates at University College, and hoped to nurture a collegiate experience that would be affordable to those of limited means; and in which the students and staff were to be regarded as part of a single community. In line with his ambitions, the college pioneered the concept of catered residences for students, where all meals were taken in the hall, and occupants charged fixed prices for board and lodgings — this system became the norm for Durham colleges, and later on at Oxford and Cambridge, before spreading worldwide. As the 20th century progressed, Hatfield was increasingly characterised by its irreverent atmosphere among undergraduates, reputation for academic indifference, sporting achievement — especially in rugby — and possessing a high intake of students from English public schools. College administration, on the other hand, preferred to highlight the willingness of students to get involved in a wide variety of university activities; and argued that 'Hatfield man', contrary to his reactionary image, had often been at the forefront of significant reform on campus. College architecture is an eclectic blend of buildings from a variety of styles and periods. The sloping main courtyard contains an eighteenth-century dining hall, the restrained Jacobethan Melville Building (designed by Anthony Salvin), a Victorian Gothic chapel, and the 'inoffensive neo-Georgian' C Stairs. The trend for revivalist and traditional buildings was disposed of with the modern Jevons Building, located in the college's second courtyard, which interprets older forms in a more 'contemporary' manner. After many decades as a single-sex institution, the first female undergraduates were formally admitted in Michaelmas term 1988.
