The National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (農業・食品産業技術総合研究機構, Nōgyō Shokuhin Sangyō Gijutsu Sōgō Kenkyū Kikō, NARO) is a Japanese research facility headquartered in Tsukuba Science City, Ibaraki, and the workforce is located in Tsukuba and in several cities and towns throughout Japan. The organization is dedicated to scientific research related to Agriculture. It became a new legal body of Independent Administrative Institution in 2001 originally as National Agricultural Research Organization, remaining under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup

The World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup is one of the four major golf tournaments for women on the LPGA of Japan Tour. It was founded in 1973 by Nippon Television and has been classified as a major since 2008. The annual tournament is held at the Ibaraki Golf Club in Tsukubamirai, Ibaraki, and Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical serves as the title sponsor.

Tatsunami stable

Tatsunami stable (立浪部屋, Tatsunami-beya) is a stable of sumo wrestlers, formerly the head of the Tatsunami ichimon or group of stables. As of January 2023 it had 20 wrestlers. Previously situated in sumo's heartland of Ryōgoku nearby the Kokugikan stadium, it is now located in Ibaraki Prefecture and alongside Shikihide stable is one of the furthest from Ryōgoku. In April 2021 the stable announced it was moving to Taitō, to occupy the premises previously used by Tokiwayama stable.

As of 1 October 2020, the city had an estimated population of 51,035 in 20,030 households and a population density of 645 persons per km². The percentage of the population aged over 65 was 26.3%. The total area of the city is 79.16 square kilometres (30.56 sq mi).
