Union Cemetery-Beatty Park is a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Steubenville, Ohio. Union Cemetery was incorporated as a not for profit in 1854, and through donations and purchase, additional land has been added. That part not suitable for a burial ground was used as a parkland.This District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 27, 1987 for its landscape architecture. The Franciscan University murders is an American criminal case involving the kidnapping of two young men from Steubenville, Ohio, and their murder in Washington County, Pennsylvania, on May 31, 1999. The perpetrators were found guilty on several counts after a 2000 trial, but their murder convictions were overturned in 2004 in an Ohio Supreme Court decision requiring the defendants to be tried once in each state for the crimes committed in each state. In response to the decision, "Brian and Aaron's Law" passed into Ohio state law in April 2005, which permits authorities to prosecute suspects in murder cases that begin in that state but have related activities in another state.

Franciscan University of Steubenville is a private Franciscan university in Steubenville, Ohio. The university has 3,656 students as of fall 2022, including 2,602 students on campus, in 40 undergraduate and 8 graduate degree programs. The student body is 97 percent Catholic, and Franciscan claims to have the largest number of students majoring in theology, catechetics, and philosophy of any Catholic university in the United States.The school was established as the College of Steubenville in 1946 by the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular at the request of Bishop Mussio, the first bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville. In 1974, Michael Scanlan became president and began a series of major reforms to restore the school to its Catholic heritage. The college changed its name to the University of Steubenville upon achieving university status in 1980 and adopted the current title Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1986.

Constructed for a large Methodist Episcopal congregation in the early twentieth century, it was acquired by the present occupants in 1945. Federal Land Office is a former government building in Steubenville, Ohio where the federal government sold public lands to settlers. It is now on the property of a museum beside reconstructed Fort Steuben. In 1973, while on another site about a mile away, 40°22′31″N 80°36′47″W, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its historical significance. It was later moved to its present location.

Fort Steuben was a fortification erected in Feb. 1787 on the Ohio River in eastern Ohio Country at the northern end of the Seven Ranges land tract to be surveyed. It was at the location of the modern city of Steubenville, Ohio. The fort was built by Major John Hamtramck and named for Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian army officer who had served under General Washington. The original purpose was to provide protection from Indians for the first surveyors to venture into the Northwest Territory.

Steubenville Female Seminary, also known as Beatty's Seminary for Young Ladies or Steubenville Seminary, was a female seminary in Steubenville, Ohio. It was founded by Presbyterian minister Charles Clinton Beatty in 1829. Beatty served as Superintendent and his wife, Hetty Elizabeth Beatty, served as principal. The school had 7 students during the first year. The campus was located on South High Street between Adams and South Streets with a view of the surrounding hills.In 1856, control went to Dr. and Mrs. A.M. Reid. In 1863, they were succeeded by Dr. and Mrs. J.W. Wightman. At its peak, the school educated 150 students at a time. The faculty was usually between 10 and 12 teachers. Many of the students became missionaries. It closed in 1898. Over the life of the institution, the school educated 5,000 women.Following its closing the buildings were used for a variety of purposes, including apartments. They were demolished in 1953 to make way for the High Street Thoroughfare, today known as State Route 7.
