Towles Farmstead

Wadmalaw Island is an island located in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. It is one of the Sea Islands, a chain of tidal and barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean.

The Battle of Simmon's Bluff was a minor and bloodless Union victory, fought June 21, 1862, in Meggett, South Carolina, during the American Civil War. Union forces had laid siege to Charleston, which was being resupplied from a nearby railroad. Union forces were eager to capture the city, so they sent the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry regiment to sever the rail line. The 55th Pennsylvania departed by sea shortly before the battle in search of a place to land closer to the railroad. On June 21, the 55th Pennsylvania came ashore at Wadmalaw Sound. Union forces discovered an encampment of the 16th South Carolina Infantry regiment, and quickly razed the encampment and engaged the Confederate forces. The Confederates scattered after the encampment was razed and were unable to launch an effective counterattack. There were no reports of injuries on either side. After the raid, the Union forces returned to their ships and abandoned their original objective, which was to interrupt the rail line to Charleston.

The Battle of Stono Ferry was an American Revolutionary War battle, fought on June 20, 1779, near Charleston, South Carolina. The rear guard from a British expedition retreating from an aborted attempt to take Charleston held off an assault by poorly trained militia forces under American General Benjamin Lincoln.

Ravenel is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,465 at the 2010 census. Ravenel is part of the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area.

Rantowles, South Carolina is an unincorporated community in what is now Hollywood, and Ravenel, South Carolina, near the Stono River and Stono Swamp. Rantowles Creek runs through the area. Google maps places it specifically at the intersection of SC 162 and United States Route 17. It is the near the Stono River Slave Rebellion Site, a U.S. National Historic Landmark and location of the start of the Stono Rebellion, the first large-scale slave revolt in the United States. There was a Rantowles Depot. There is a Rantowles Bridge. Rantowles Creek feeds into the Stono River. Coburg Dairy was established in the area.Benjamin Simmoms stated he lived at Rantowles on Russell Island (The Russell Creek Plantation is on Edisto Island). Rescue Rantowles Creek is a film promoting conservation of the tidal estuary.

Baptist Hill High School is a public high school in Hollywood, South Carolina. It is part of the Charleston County School District. Most of its students are African American. Bobcats are the school mascot. The school was built circa 1953 at a cost of approximately $250,000. In 1954, Jet reported that a janitor at the school's new cement block building believed it was haunted by a student who drowned before receiving a diploma. In 1977, the school was set on fire, causing $125,000 in damage.In 2017, the school's football team played for a state championship.The school district launched a cultural competency program to address much lower scores among African American and Hispanic students than white students at its largely segregated schools.

Meggett is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,226 at the 2010 census. Meggett is part of the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area.

St. John's High School (SJHS) is a senior high school in Charleston, South Carolina, on Johns Island. It is a part of the Charleston County School District. St. John's is home to approximately 300 students and 30 faculty and staff. St. John's offers Advanced Placement and dual credit courses totaling over 30 hours of offered college credit, as well as three career academies in Hospitality and Tourism, Computer Science, and Culinary Arts. The school's athletic teams are known as the Mighty Islanders, and royal blue and maroon are the school colors. St. John's competes at the A level in football, volleyball, basketball (boys' and girls'), wrestling, soccer, track, baseball, and softball. The Islanders also offer marching band, agriculture and green house, weightlifting, competitive academic team, and student council. Great wrestling coach too.

John Seabrook Plantation Bridge, also known as Admiral George Palmer's Bridge, is a historic arch bridge located at Rockville, Charleston County, South Carolina. It was built about 1782, and is constructed of brick veneer enclosing a fill mixture of crushed oyster shells and rammed earth.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Charleston Tea Garden is located about twenty miles south of Charleston, South Carolina on Wadmalaw Island. Owned by the Bigelow Tea Company, it grows the tea sold under the brand name American Classic Tea and Charleston Tea Garden from the Camellia sinensis plant. Every year they used to host the First Flush Festival celebrating the beginning of the harvest season.

The John F. Limehouse Memorial Bridge, located about 15 miles (24 km) west of downtown Charleston, South Carolina, was completed in 2003. It replaced an obsolete low-level swing bridge over the Stono River. The current bridge, which crosses a channel between Johns Island and St. Andrews Parish, an area generally called West Ashley, was completed under a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and the United States Coast Guard.
