Tazewell High School (THS) is a public secondary school in Tazewell, Virginia, United States. It is part of Tazewell County Public Schools and is located on Fincastle Road. As of the 2024–2025 school year, enrollment was about 509 students.

Henry Bowen (December 26, 1841 – April 29, 1915) was a Virginia lawyer, soldier and politician from Tazewell County, Virginia. After raising a unit which became the 22nd Virginia Cavalry, he fought for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War, after which Bowen served in the Virginia House of Delegates, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives, first as a Readjuster, then as a Republican.

George Campbell Peery (October 28, 1873 – October 14, 1952) was a Virginia lawyer, school principal and Democratic politician, who served as the 52nd governor of Virginia from 1934 to 1938, after serving three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as on the State Corporation Commission. Sometimes called the second governor selected (at least partially), by the soon to be very powerful Byrd Organization, led by former Virginia Governor and later multi-term Senator Harry F. Byrd, Sr. Peery was also the first Virginia governor from southwest Virginia, and noted his descent from early settlers of the Clinch Valley.

Tazewell Historic District is a national historic district located at Tazewell, Tazewell County, Virginia. The district encompasses 112 contributing buildings in central business district and surrounding residential area of the town of Tazewell. The most notable building is the Tazewell County Courthouse. It was built in 1874, and rebuilt in 1913 in a Classical Revival style. Other notable buildings include the Old Jail (c. 1832), Clinch Valley News Building, Stras Memorial Episcopal Church (1884), Tazewell Christian Church (1898), Clinch Valley Bank (1889), J. A. Greever Building (1914), Greever and Gillespie Law Office Building (1897), Tazewell High School (1931), Tazewell Masonic Lodge #62 (1931), Tazewell Post Office (1936), and Tazewell Presbyterian Church (1924, 1959). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, and had a boundary increase in 2016.

James Wynn House, also known as the Peery House, is a historic home located near Tazewell, Tazewell County, Virginia. It was built about 1828, and is a large two-story, three-bay, brick dwelling with a two-story rear ell. The main block has a gable roof and exterior end chimneys. Across the front facade is a one-story, hip-roofed porch. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Tazewell Depot is a historic railroad station at 135 Railroad Avenue in North Tazewell, Virginia. It is a long rectangular brick structure, one story in height, with a hip roof that has broad eaves supported by large brackets. Both the long street-facing and track-facing sides have projecting bay sections. The depot was built in 1888 and rebuilt in 1928 by the Norfolk and Western Railway to serve passenger traffic on its line; the substantial freight volume was handled by a larger adjacent frame building. The Tazwell Street Railway started operations in 1892 and it operated between the depot and Tazewell proper. Passenger service on the railroads declined with the advent of the automobile, leading to the end of the streetcar in 1933. The original depot was dismantled in 1957 and passenger service ended in 1959, after which time the depot was also used for freight traffic, which was finally ended in 1974. It is one of two surviving depots that served on the Clinch River Line. Between 2014 and 2019, the station was restored to be used as a visitor center. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Cavitt's Creek Park is a 300-acre park located at 750 Recreation Drive in North Tazewell, Tazewell County, Virginia. The lake is named for a local doctor and state politician. It features a 54-acre lake, stocked with fish; allows only non-motorized boats and has both full service and primitive camping. It is also a site for the Mountain Heritage Loop of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.

Clynchdale, also known as the Archibald Thompson House, is a historic farm property at 146 Beartown Road, in the rural Thompson Valley south of Tazewell in Tazewell County, Virginia. The property is a small remnant of the estate of Archibald Thompson, one of the first to be established in the valley. The brick main house has a long construction history beginning about 1830, and is one of the grandest representatives of Federal Greek Revival architecture. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Tazewell County is part of the Bluefield, WV-VA Micropolitan Statistical Area. Its economy was dependent on coal and iron of the Pocahontas Fields from the late 19th into the 20th century.
