Shirenewton

The Church of St Thomas a Becket is located in Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, Wales. In the late 12th century the land was inherited by Henry de Bohun. The church was built by his son Humphrey after he inherited the title in 1220, and was dedicated to St. Thomas à Becket who had been assassinated in 1170 and canonised three years later. The chronicler Adam of Usk, who held the post in 1399, was one of the earliest known rectors of the church. The church was designated a Grade II listed building on 19 August 1955. Services are normally held at 9:45am on Sundays.

Shirenewton Hall, originally Shirenewton Court, is a country house and estate adjoining the village of Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, Wales, about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Chepstow. The 29.5-acre (11.9 ha) estate is located on a hillside, and commands views across the "Golden Valley" to the west and the Severn Estuary in the south. The main building was constructed around 1830, and partly rebuilt around 1900–1910, on the site of an earlier house which was the birthplace of William Blethyn, Bishop of Llandaff. The house is now a Grade II listed building, and the teahouse in the adjoining Japanese garden is listed as Grade II*. The gardens are included on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. The estate is not open to the public.

Caerwent Training Area is a British military installation at Caerwent, Monmouthshire, Wales. The large military site is situated north of the A48 road about 5 mi (8.0 km) west of Chepstow and 12 miles (19 km) east of Newport. Established as the Royal Navy Propellant Factory, Caerwent in 1939, it was originally dedicated to the manufacture and storage of Royal Naval munitions. It has been used as a training area since its closure as an armament works in 1966, and between 1967 and 1993 was RAF Caerwent. Caerwent Barracks is to be built on the site to house 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards and 1st Battalion, The Rifles from 2027. As at 2023, the site is under construction.

Itton (Welsh: Llanddinol), is a small village in Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, in the community of Devauden about 3 miles (4.8 km) north-west of Chepstow. The village covers about a 2-mile (3.2 km) radius, with about 70 properties across a rural area. The parish also includes the hamlet of Howick. The church and Itton Court, the manor house, are located about 1-mile (1.6 km) from the main housing development at Itton Common on the B4293 road between Chepstow and Devauden. The woodland between Itton and Devauden is Chepstow Park Wood.

Itton Court, Itton, Devauden, Monmouthshire is a country house. The origin of the house was as an outstation for Chepstow Castle. In the 18th century, much of the medieval manor was pulled down and replaced. Further additions and alterations were made in the 19th and 20th centuries, including work by Guy Dawber. From the 18th until the mid-20th century, the court was the home of the Curre family, major landowners, who purchased the estate in 1749. It is a Grade II* listed building and its gardens are listed on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

Caerwent (Welsh: Caer-went) is a village and community in Monmouthshire, Wales. It is located about five miles west of Chepstow and 11 miles east of Newport. It was founded by the Romans as the market town of Venta Silurum, an important settlement of the Brythonic Silures tribe. The modern village is built around the Roman ruins, which are some of the best-preserved in Europe. It remained prominent through the Roman era and Early Middle Ages as the site of a road crossing between several important civic centres. The community includes Llanvair Discoed. The village itself had a population of about 1,200.

Crick (Welsh: Crug) is a small village or hamlet in the Welsh county of Monmouthshire, United Kingdom. It is located on the A48 road 1 mile north of the town of Caldicot and 1 mile east of Caerwent.

Venta Silurum was a town in Roman Britain (Britannia). Today it consists of remains in the village of Caerwent in Monmouthshire, south east Wales. Much of it has been archaeologically excavated and is on display to the public. The nearby Newport Museum has many of the finds on display.

The Church of St Stephen and St Tathan, Caerwent, Monmouthshire, is a parish church with datable origins to the 13th century. It is believed to be one of the oldest Christian sites in the county, and possibly within Wales. The church is sited within the walls of the Roman town. It remains an active parish church and a Grade II* listed building.

Runston Chapel, Mathern, Monmouthshire, Wales, is the ruin of a chapel dating back to the early 12th century. It is the only remaining visible remnant of the medieval village of Runston, although parts of the former domestic dwellings can be identified under turf-covered mounds on the site. Twenty-five such structures have been identified. By the 16th century, the village was in decline and, by 1785, had been entirely abandoned. The ruins of the chapel, and the site, are in the care of Cadw.

Manor Farmhouse, or Crick Manor, Crick, Monmouthshire is a late medieval manor house dating from the 15th century. The buildings comprise a chapel, of 13th century origins, now a separate house, the medieval, stone hall, and a 16th-century wing. The buildings were originally constructed for the Denefords, and extended by their descendants, the Moores. In the 17th century, Nicholas Moore, High Sheriff of Monmouthshire entertained Charles I at the manor. The grouping has been "badly compromised" in later centuries. The house, privately owned and accommodating an archery centre, is Grade II* listed.

Howick Farmhouse, in the hamlet of Howick, near Itton, Monmouthshire is a farmhouse dating from the mid-16th century. It is a Grade II* listed building. Its associated barns and stable block have their own Grade II listings.
