Cymer Abbey

Hengwrt (English: Old Court) was a mansion near Dolgellau in Meirionnydd, Gwynedd. It lay in the parish of Llanelltyd near the confluence of the River Mawddach and River Wnion, near Cymer Abbey. With medieval origins, it was rebuilt or remodelled on several occasions before being demolished in 1962. It is remembered as the original home of the important collection of the Peniarth Manuscripts, now in the National Library of Wales.

Llanelltyd (Welsh: Llanelltyd) is a small village and community in Gwynedd, to the northwest of Dolgellau. The community population taken at the 2011 Census was 514, 57.4% of which speak Welsh.It is home to the 12th-century Cymer Abbey, a grade I listed building. St Illtyd's church, one of the oldest parish churches in Wales, is a grade II* listed building.The small settlement of Bontddu is in the community. The village itself has a population of around 300.

The Dolgellau transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility located on a hill about 1 km north of the town of Dolgellau, in Gwynedd, Wales. It was originally built by the BBC, entering service just before Christmas 1967 acting as a relay transmitter for the now-defunct 405-line VHF television system.

Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor (meaning in English "Meirion-Dwyfor College"), also known as CMD, is a college in Gwynedd, Wales with its main campus in Dolgellau. It serves the areas of Meirionydd and Dwyfor. It has a bilingual language policy and offers the opportunity to study most subjects through the medium of Welsh. Since 1 April 2012, it has been a constituent college of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor has three main campuses at Dolgellau in Meirionnydd, Pwllheli in Dwyfor and Glynllifon (for agricultural courses) near Caernarfon. The Dolgellau campus was previously occupied by Dr Williams School. Notable former pupils include the singer Duffy, who was elected president of the Students' union.Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor formally merged with Coleg Llandrillo on 1 April 2010; this new college merged with Coleg Menai in 2012 to form Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. The merged organisation is one of the largest further education colleges in the UK, located at twelve campuses across four counties. Although the colleges have merged their management and have a central administration, the Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor campuses retain the Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor name.

Dr Williams' School was a school founded in Dolgellau in 1875. It opened its doors in 1878 and continued until it was closed in 1975.Samuel Holland was actively involved in setting the school up and became its first Chairman of the Board of Governors.The site of the school is now occupied by Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.

Dolgellau Athletic A.F.C. are a Welsh football club based in Dolgellau, Wales. They have a reserve team playing in the Aberystwyth League Division One. In 2012 19-year-old David Webber became the youngest football manager in senior British football history when he was appointed first team manager at Dolgellau.The home colours are yellow shirts with a black chevron and black shorts and socks.A club was formed in Dolgellau as far back as 1878.

The River Wnion is a river in the southeast of Gwynedd, Wales. It begins high on the slopes of Aran Benllyn about five miles south of Lanuwchllyn and flows south-west into the River Mawddach near Cymer Abbey. It flows past several villages, including Rhyd-y-main and Bontnewydd, where a bridge crosses over the river that dates from the 18th century. It then flows to Dolgellau where another locally famous bridge, known as "Y Bont Fawr". Its total length is approximately 12 miles. The river may get its name from 'White' which turned from "gwyn" (white) into "gwn" (gun); indeed, there is a place called 'Pennar(th) Gwynion' in the vicinity, near Hengwrt.

Dolgellau railway station (Welsh pronunciation: [dɔlˈɡɛɬaɨ]) in Gwynedd, North Wales, was a station on the Ruabon to Barmouth line, originally the terminus of a Cambrian Railways branch from Barmouth Junction, then linked by the Great Western Railway to Bala and Ruabon. The station spent most of its life with the spelling "Dolgelley" (often pronounced, especially in English, as [dɔlˈɡɛɬi]); this was altered to "Dolgellau" on 12 September 1960. It was opened on 4 August 1868, and closed to passengers on Monday 18 January 1965 as a result of the Beeching Axe. It had two platforms and a passing loop, an extensive goods yard and turntable. According to the Official Handbook of Stations the following classes of traffic were being handled at this station in 1956: G, P, F, L, H & C and there was a 6-ton crane.No trace remains of the station, which was demolished in the late 1970s to make way for the A470 Dolgellau bypass.

County Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Sir Dolgellau) is a municipal building in Smithfield Street, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, Wales. The structure, which was the headquarters of Merionethshire County Council, is a Grade II* listed building.

Dolgellau (/dɒlˈɡɛθlaɪ/; Welsh pronunciation: [dɒlˈɡɛhlaɪ]; also [dɔlˈɡɛɬaɨ] ) is a town and community in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, lying on the River Wnion, a tributary of the River Mawddach. It was the traditional county town of the historic county of Merionethshire until the county of Gwynedd was created in 1974. Dolgellau is the main base for climbers of Cadair Idris and Mynydd Moel which are visible from the town. Dolgellau is the second largest settlement in southern Gwynedd after Tywyn and includes the community of Penmaenpool.

The Old Market Hall (Welsh: Neuadd Idris) is a municipal building in Eldon Square, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, Wales. The structure, which is now the home to the National Centre for Folk Music, known as Tŷ Siamas, is a Grade II listed building.

Our Lady of Sorrows Church or its full name Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Dolgellau, Gwynedd. It was built in 1966 and is a Grade II listed building. It is situated on Meyrick Street close to the centre of town. It is administered in the Dolgellau Deanery of the Diocese of Wrexham.
